Guys - there is SO MUCH MORE we wanted to show you of Tangkahan but simply didn't have enough time. This is only a little teaser of the beauty and incredible experiences available in this extraordinary area. Also want to emphasise that during the week (outside of the holiday season), this is such a quiet, peaceful area. And even on weekends, there are plenty of places to go to avoid crowds - although it can be nice to mingle with the local tourists too! You should go to Kolam Abadi in Langkat regency. It's so cool, the water is so crystal clear and blue. But don't know during the holiday season, maybe it's gonna be full packed.
Yes! We've seen photos and videos of Kolam Abadi - it looks amazing! We will definitely try to visit sometime - but yes, probably outside of holiday season. Thanks for the tip! ☺
Such a special place - shame about the rubbish - it is probably a problem world wide - so nice to see you back in Tangkahan - the river looked so inviting as I sit here in NZ on another lovely day but humid . xxxx 💚💛🌻
Hey Vicki! Thanks so much - that’s really lovely to hear. We love sharing these beautiful places with everyone and are excited to keep doing it next year! Thanks for the support 😊😊😊
100% agree with you about the garbage. Indonesia is such a beautiful country but unfortunately the Indonesians do not respect their home. Such a shame. The monitor lizards were moving slow, didn't seem to be afraid of humans. They are really cool and I love seeing them. The hot springs looked so inviting, so relaxing - nice!
The rubbish thing is a real shame - I hope that the next generations can turn it around - it seems there is more awareness than previously, but still not enough action. The monitor lizards did seem quite used to people - later on we saw some people throwing rocks at them, which we quickly put a stop to! It really is such a gorgeous place - and really nice during the week when it feels like it's just you and the jungle 😀
It's around 7 hours by private car, so I'd say add a few hours on scooter! A very full day of travel. Probably best to break it up by heading to Berastagi first and staying a night or two there then continue to Tangkahan :)
Looks amazing. You've really inspired us to visit Sumatra. I've read a lot of information about the rainy season, but it's all very conflicting. We plan to visit from mid February for around 3 weeks. Do you think this is an okay time? We don't mind a bit of rain since we're from Holland (the country of rain).
That's so great to hear that we've helped motivate you to come check out Sumatra! How exciting! February is a great time to come, and 3 weeks a decent chunk of time to see quite a lot. February is around the beginning of dry season, so it should be perfect - although the line between wet and dry season isn't as clear as it once was. You shouldn't get a lot of rain - even in wet season, it usually only rains in the afternoons or evenings (of course, always a little more near the rainforest!) Happy trip planning and feel free to email if you have any other questions ☺exploringsumatra@gmailcom
Totally agree with you there! Seems like simple solution but not quite embedded in the majority of people's behaviour yet. Hopefully in the years to come! ☺
This is absolutely shocking the amount of rubbish. What a shame. I am a Muslim and this is strictly forbidden in islam. This is 100% a lack of education. I absolutely dislike that. My goodness look after your land.😡😡
It is really disappointing - definitely a mixture of lack of education as well as resources. Indonesia is so beautiful and it's a shame to see some of its best places marred by trash.

Looks great, how long would it take on a scooter from lake toba?
