  • Goes over how to mix 2 songs, and how to drop one song to another buildup. Very basic and good for beginners. I run Traktor Pro 2 with Traktor S4, this is only for informational purposes for people who dont have a controller.

I've had Virtual DJ for ages and I literally didn't know a thing about counting beats but what you have told me in the first 7 minutes has literally changed my ability to DJ, you are a legend my friend!

Thank you DVF for this "beginning level" mixer video. People should appreciate anyone trying to help others. As a beginner to the mixing world on a "cancer budget" I am going to give this application a try. Virtual DJ seems like a great starting point for beginners, hobbyists, and music enthusiasts. Of course you can't beat the free price!

Thanks for the video. Didn't understand until watching it my third time through. Take notes people. But more importantly actually practice doing it yourself. Being great at something takes time and hard work. It can be frustrating at times. If making it was easy then everyone would be at the top. Thats not the case however. Keep your dreams a float and most importantly.......JUST DO ITTTTTT

I just did a beautiful 3 song mix after this tutorial! Thank you so much it was beautiful! Heartbeat by Victone (PIXL Remix) to the drop of Rock n' Roll with you (Skrillex) and back to Hearbeat with levels coming in. Not like the song choice mattered but it worked!

when you have the problem with Nicky Romero - Toulouse at the beginning of the video, easiest thing to do to sort it, is right click it in the search bit in the middle & Analyze in Techno / house or Other Music which you can find in the BPM, click the Analyze & it should sort it out.

      BigVadik Just 4 questions then:
      1. What kind of music is popular in clubs? Is future bass/chill trap suitable?
      2. How do you deal with the pressure of not messing up?
      3. When transitioning into different genres (e.g. dubstep into hiphop) does it work well? receive positive vibe?
      4. How do you read a crowd? I get the idea, don't think I could do it myself. Can the skill be learned?
      Thanks

    • @dr-loc8396
      @dr-loc8396 9 років тому +4

Brian Yang 1. Depends on the club, they usually tell you ahead of time.
      2. First practice mixing don't even worry about effects, just master beatmatching and smoothly transitioning songs together. Once you have mixing down to where you don't even think about it, then you are ready for your first gig. You learn effects, and advanced mixing techniques as you practice, and learn.
      3. It might work if the dubstep has vocals from a hiphop song, then you could mix it in to sound good.
      4. Your music has to flow, if your crowd is energized play 128-160 bpm music, if you want to calm it down a bit, slowly go down on BPM as you mix, just make sure it flows, also make sure you have a large playlist of different genres and songs you can choose from, Pop music is usually good to have as people are expecting to hear popular songs that have been on the radio.

slight correction: the lowercase "m" in the name of a key means MINOR, so those songs (if they're tagged correctly) are in F minor and F# minor. for major keys we just use the letter name (and a sharp or flat sign).

The quality of DJ's are going down because much like EVERYTHING, these things are widely available. At the end of the day, all people wanna hear is good music. As long as you're bringing that, good energy or whatever, who cares what you use. As long as the people listening to it are vibing, that's all that matters.

You'll find cue points and tracks load perfectly and the quality of the tracks is bettter as well. Happy Mixing.

Hey, try finding a song that has an 8 bar (32 beats) intro, and one with an 8 bar outro, and then as the outro starts on one, begin the intro. Leave the crossfader in the middle. Sounds 100x better than messing with the crossfader, without a controller & heavy practice.
    Otherwise an ok video

I Tend to loop the next deck sequence of 16, or the 1234's so it's ready when I am ready, I don't use the Cross fader at all, Instead I use the volume sliders and turn town the bass from what I'm crossing from so you still hear it playing whilst in the mix and then bring that sound down as I sequence in the new track when previous track is cut kf completely. Sure its not easy but is doable. I found my style of mixing to sound far better overall than just using crossfade.
Also some tunes even though sync up and same BPM maybe still out of line so I ten to adjust the pitch of what I want to bring in which kind of works better, I'm sure you know what I mean it's like a 2nd beat before the 2 in sequence. Or some where the bear is not on the solid thick square. All you do with that is sync it as beat 1 with the track you mixing to.

Once you sync the songs it the bpmof the first and second song will be the same. It's also advisable to start with songs with similar bpm's. In virtual dj the the source folder shows the BPM if it is known. There is also a list in the menu to the left that gives you compatible songs with similar bpm's
