You guys should do an RTX a2000 build. They are low profile don't need a power connector and fit into sff PCs. The price are also lower now. They are $250 on Amazon.

You'll probably tell me Windows 11 sucks and to just stick with Windows 10 but I'm trying out Windows 11 right now and there are things I like about it over Windows 10 plus I want to keep receiving security updates one year from now. Another reason people should upgrade to Windows 11 is because next year in October of 2025 when Windows 10 stops receiving security updates if people don't upgrade to Windows 11 they run the risk of getting infected with viruses/malware and their PC potentially becoming part of a zombie botnet unless they disconnect from the internet and only run Windows 10 offline.

It stays off-line on Windows 7 and I just use it as an emulation machine and to run some old software to diagnose car ecus. Some people like myself will buy dumb shit cause it looks cool and had alienmachines when I was young. I could have bought a $100 laptop that would service the same thing but that isn't fun haha

This is a reason why I think Microsoft made Windows 11's system requirements too high because people will have to get rid of perfectly good hardware prematurely and a lot of people can't afford newer PC hardware.

In 2011 I ordered a 17” R17M2. A 960Q @ 1.73GHz, dual 5870’s, two 500GB HDD’s, 16GB RAM. It was $3200. It was so heavy. But it could play. Expensive, but probably the lowest per-hour cost entertainment I’ve ever purchased. And I used it until 2019.

Def should have run the tests with Windows 7 or force installed the 8.1 version (something you can do not hard and a simple search shows many people describing how) I'm positive you would have gotten more titles to run just fine, also the second card is probably a detriment ( definitely is since you don't have the right driver package) modern games don't support crossfire or sli, you would get better frames without it.
FWIW, I ran Mint 18.X on a 2009 Dell Inspiron 560(?) desktop with worse specs and it ran like a dream! Ubuntu seems to drag on Alienware, but Mint is pretty snappy on ANY hardware I toss it on! Typing this on a 2015 Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop with Mint 21.1 installed. Only 'glitches' I have is with Chrome.

I have a later M17x R4 which actually has an HDMI input so you can connect a game console to play on the internal screen. It's also got dual 256gb SSDS in RAID 0 from the factory and 16gb of ram. Iirc the battery life was actually not bad when it was new and yes the original power adapter did have the little power light on it. Mine was fairly loaded and worked extremely well for years. Still does actually though its in my closet. I've mulled selling it though Was actually a good laptop. Even technically has upgradeable graphics (I believe you can get and put a 980M in it) as they're on a card, it takes a bit of work but is doable

I have an M14x that came with an I7 2630M and 8gb of dual channel ram and upgraded it to a used i7 2960XM I found for sale locally on eBay and then paired it with 16gb of 1600MHZ cl9 DDR3 HyperX Fury RAM in dual channel (8x2) I specc'd it with a GT555m 3gb and a 1600x900 and its still quite a potent machine for its size and age.

I don’t know what the specs are it’s I can play line site team fortress two just a lot of games like that I just play whatever I’d like and usually there are two graphics heavy, but you know just want to put my two cents in.
I swore never to purchase another Alienware product. I purchased a R15 gaming laptop and the hard drive was gone within months. I then replaced it with an SSD. Then right at the year anniversary the screen went black. I contacted Alienware and they immediately let me know the warranty was over, but they would be glad to check it for $30 not counting shipping. After I let them know how crappy their service was, I took it to a local tech, who checked it for free. He told me the motherboard was gone, and he highly advised me not to replace it, and to stay away from Alienware. Now the damn thing just sits in a corner of my room because I don't want to throw it away. I paid a lot of money for this trash.

And then my parents decided that basically i wasnt allowed to use the warranty. It gave out 6 months ago, when the microphone didnt wanna work, and now basically its probably a dustfilled shaitbox. Its now the most expensive laptopstand one could imagine i think, 869 mid 2018 euro's. Thats at least 1100 2022 euro's, and probably more.
I think most people should just get an Aspire 5. It's only $100 more, comes with Windows 10, and although isn't the most performant, it's much better than this.

I own this revision of Alienware laptop and XP on it is a bit of a bear to install and Dell doesn't host the XP drivers at all. The sweet spot for this laptop is Windows Vista really, e en then compatibility is somewhat spotty on it.
I had a new battery and I guess it would die really quick and it needed a couple weeks of charging and draining till it started holding a charge for a proper amount of time

Battery only only last 1 to 1.5hrs at best drivers still available usually get them from dell. I’ve had it since it came out still have mine. Mxm upgrading is possible but very challenging because of the screen you have.
i remember seeing this exact model in Hong Kong while having vacation. Bought a 17 R3 (i7 6700HQ + 980m 4gb) 2016 to scratch the itch. That 6700HQ undervolted really well. Sadly, had to sell it for some reasons.

This whole video is pointless, the reason why the fps was bad is because when they started the laptop it gave a ac power warning. This means the system will run in throttled mode until you get the proper psu which came with this model. I have 2 old alienware and both had the same issue until i got the original psu and most games ran fine. Dell pretty much serializes the psu to the specific models.

$300 seems a little expensive even for a highend 2010 laptop when even lowend laptops with integrated graphics will outperform it.
These laptops have a bit nostalgic pull. Its not really about the performance all the time.
