Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use. Simon really flexes his musical muscles with this album and does so with great success, exploring music from other world regions and adding his compositional talents to it. Inspired from start to finish, you do get lost in it. We should all be so lost.
Thank you. Paul Simon was unfairly criticised at the time for 'exploiting' African music. It was nonsense because as well as expressing his own love for it, he brought it to the attention of the World. It upset him for a while as I don't think he expected it. But Graceland was hugely successful, as was the music of The Black Mambazo Band. Genius.
Not only that, he paid the musicians WAY more than what the standard rate required. And in the process, he introduced the world to Ladysmith Black Mambazo - a win-win for all. Especially us, the listeners!
Paul Simon opened the world of African music to me, and I'm forever grateful.
There was a lot of controversy at the time about whether artists should perform in South Africa during Apartheid. Paul Simon wanted to showcase the talent in Africa, and insisted that the audience at concerts be open to all races. Both sides had a valid viewpoint, and of course now it is obvious that Simon was the forward-thinking one. thinking
Paul Simon. A perfect example of what the word 'musical genius' means. This is nothing short of a real work of art. Timeless and perfect.
Joseph Shabalala is already so talented and their friendship is adorable
A massive shout out to the amazing dancers who make up Ladysmith Black Mambazo here, and the incredible musicians who are supporting Paul.
Graceland, the album, was produced during apartheid. Paul Simon had to endure criticism from many people, for one that he was exploiting and appropriating South African culture, when in fact he was highlighting and presenting to the world the wonderful beats, rhythms and sounds that this beautiful country was making. The whole album is a masterpiece to listen to.
Your smile lit up my day , thanks
Aww! Thank you😊❤️❤️🤗
Graceland is such a brilliant album. And this is one of its best songs. I love the verse:
"She makes the sign of a teaspoon, he makes the sign of a wave
The poor boy changes clothes and puts on aftershave
To compensate for his ordinary shoes."
Something about the way he sings it, it's just lovely. Great reaction as always!
Nice! The pleasant sounds of the songs from Graceland filled the radio back in 1986 -- "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes", "Graceland", "The Boy in the Bubble", "You Can Call Me Al", "Under African Skies", "Homeless" -- timeless...
Paul Simon is a great singer songwriter. After his success with Simon & Garfunkel in the 60's, Paul Simon went solo in 1970. He has a huge library of songs such as "Mother & Child Reunion", "Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard", "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover", "Still Crazy After All These Years", "Gone At Last", "My Little Town", "Kodachrome", "Loves Me Like A Rock", "The Boy In The Bubble" etc.
Thank you Dagmar, for the information. I know all of the song which you mentioned; but never knew it was Paul's solo work. The talented one of any duo or group always shines.....Did Art have any success, after Paul's departure?
@@leroywilliams6380 Art recorded a few albums on his own & had a few hits like "All I Know", "Second Avenue", "I Only Have Eyes For You", "(What A) Wonderful World", "Bright Eyes" etc. He also starred in a few movies.
Hey Dagmar S. - great list! How about "That Was Your Mother?" I love that Cajun-style groove and the cool lyrics.
Love this song and the whole album. It was huge in the late 80s. Paul Simon got some grief here in the US for "crossing lines" and playing with South Africans during apartheid, but it missed the point that he made an album and exposed these musicians to the world. Ladysmith Black Mambazo has some great songs that are worth a look as well.
Great bass and lead guitars. Top 10 on my computer. I think that the diamonds also represent the beauty that the man sees in the woman.
Love it ❤. So special. Love your reaction. Beautiful song & music. Appreciate the heavy African influence.
"I am getting lost in it". This must be the best way I ever heard to express what good music does to you. This is a pie with a cherry on top: listening to a great song and watching someone enjoying it. Love from Belgium.
Great song. I always wondered what Africans thought about this kind of African music. Great video.
You should react to everything off his Graceland album, all great x
Pure joy! 😁😊
Beautiful reaction ! 😁
The Graceland album is a must for every music collection. Peace/JT
Very hard not to like this wonderful girl.
Paul Simon is a legend! Its kinda sad that some people listen to one genre.
I love all music.
Brillant reaction darlin, yes he was good!!!
Love your dancing!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful - I love the whole Graceland album.
Loved this. More from the Graceland album please, especially songs featuring Joseph Shabalala and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, like Homeless.
"Graceland " was a ground breaking album. Putting South African musicians into the Pop ~music chart where they became stars.
The band Osibisa "Woyya" etc., rom Ghna had hit albus in the 1970s.
Might wanna fix the word "shart" lmfao.
@@johnr.8275 thanks for the rip.
My eyesight is so poor i cannot read what i write....
Thank you, Leroy! I figured she'd love this one and commented as such two years ago, for preference the live in Harare version, only to be ignored til Leroy chimed in- thank you, kind sir. As always, from Canada- Peace, love and bellbottoms.
Thank you, 27th......
Thank you for reaction ❤
Welcome 🤗,Am Glad You Enjoyed❤️
I’m not sure how you can be an African and not have heard Paul Simon’s Graceland. It’s iconic worldwide, but especially in South Africa and the wider African continent.
Asante sana ❤
What an album
This is one of my "happy songs" I'm glad you like it. Paul Simon is one of the top American singer-songwriters; his lyrics are often legitimate poetry, but he can also make amazing songs with seemingly very simple lyrics.
Graceland and Rythmn of the Saints are two of Paul Simon's world music albums.
"Spirit Voices" is such a killer song from Rhythm of the Saints. The two best things about it are the happy-sounding guitar and the line, "A lime-green lizard scuttles down the cabin wall." Great imagery from a night when he ingested ayahuasca in South America.
I seen Lady Smith Black Mambozo years ago and it was such a cool time. If you have a bad mood go a see them and then you will have a great mode.
I love your voice.
I love your reaction. Your comments are great. You pick up things that the others missed 👍🥰
Aww! Thank you 🥰
I’m glad I came across you video while searching Paul Simon videos…
you should ckeck this live. my word! so beautiful!
Hey there, great song/ album. Only because I saw that you love the bass and Metallica.. their is an a capella group called Voiceplay who just dropped a cover of Metallica, and there bassist Geoff Castellucci is Awesome. I think you'll enjoy the ride😉😉😉
live from the concert in hyde park. do it now....
Hello Miss Beautiful smile, you ought to review Graceland from that same album, too. That's a fun one--just a great album in general.
Fay, please react to prince diamond and pearls
My question is whether the rich girl, poor boy thing worked out for them? Or did it end, because their love wasn't stronger than their financial differences....
I think - like many great songwriters do - that Paul left it open to the listener to decide. That said, I always imagined that it worked out and they lived happily ever after.
@@johnr.8275 John, I love your optimism.......
