I am from that small and cold country, Netherlands. I've been playing with Brazilian musicians for almost 30 years. And I travelled to Brasil to study in Recife, Salvador da Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
Hi Michael, Thanks a lot for your very usefull videos. You're a very good teacher, everything is explained in a way that it makes easy to understand the stucture of the rythm and therefore play it. I enjoy all your videos. Long life to you
Well, I would start with the surdo. This is an important instrument but easy to start with. When you are playing surdo in a group, you will also have time to listen to other instruments and get a feeling of how those instruments fit in the pattern from the surdo. Good luck!
Hi Gilles, Thank you for your comment! When it is possible, I try to give more information than only the pattern. Most of the rhythms have a relation with other instruments. I am very glad that you enjoy the video's!!
Hi Michael I'm starting a course to play samba. Could you suggest me how to start it? Surdo, Tamborim, Repelique... What is the easiest to begginers... according to you! Congratulations. Very very good your videos. Good material, good quality and good profesor and excelente musician. thanks

Hi Manday, nice to meet you! I'm glad you like the video's. Perhaps I can do a lesson about Olodum repinique, but I have many other requests... So, be patient, it will come.
Good explanation, Michael. I learned surdo from the leader of an escola de samba here in San Diego, and he showed me pretty much what you are in this video. I play corte now and then when I play with SuperSonicSamba.

There is also comtemporanea. Monobloco makes use of this brand.
