Like all your videos, clear and inspiring! Thanks for this. I find that the chocalho is the loudest samba instrument to play and my ears ring immediately unless I wear ear protection.

Oh wow you replied! Our University lecturer actually referred to your videos. Your videos really get the message across. I love the dual-screen technique haha! Where you demonstrate on one screen and show details on the other.

@NRHarris They use both names for this instrument, but most of the time when the jingles are inside the metal frame, they call it chocalho. When the jingles are at the outside and in the middle is a wooden or metal bar, they call it rocar.

Hi Sam, it is nice to be appreciated. I hope your band mates do their homework and perhaps you can show me a video where you all play Brazilian percussion! That would be nice!!

I didn't post new video's from Sambalanço. But it will come again... I didn't have time for it. When I have a new camera, I'll post more.

Thank you! Playing the chocalho is like a workout, but with the right technique you can keep it light. Good luck!!

Excellent! Is chocalho with jingles such as this also referred to as "rocar"?

    • @Rodrigo-li1br

Exactly ! In Brasil, we call this chocalho a "rocar". There are several versions of this instrument, the one played on the video is made of aluminum by Contemporanea, model 437C. There are some wooden rocars, very light and responsive.
