      brennusduxgallorum "High medieval" does not mean "Late medieval".High middle ages are period roughly around 1000-1300.When speaking about medieval Roman army it is period of ca.900-1204.

      But this is not about personal choice.There are standardly set periods to devide medieval times who are widely used in sholarship but also at schools-even those elementar.Although basic datation of these periods might little differ in various countries(and development was not always going the same speed at every region) the basic division is the same everywhere.1)Early middle ages2)High middle ages and Late middle ages.Apart from this division of medieval era there is also standardly used division for the "Byzantine"state also on early,middle and late.Absolute majority of those pics are from early and middle "Byzantine" Empire and I know what I am talking about as Roman military is my hobby and some of authors of those pics are by the way my friends with whom I speak quite often.And I can tell you exactly what every single pic in that video shows and from which books they are from.Also take a look to my own paintings: amelianvs.deviantart.com/gallery/38185041/Historical-reconstruction

      Just 2 words: RUSSIAN EMPIRE. Never had any nation known such a glorious history of becoming a 1-class great power out of a backwards semi-Asian despotic khanate Muscovy used to be. Sadly, it all ended in 1917, when Muscovy had its revenge. All that is left for Russians now is hope. And God's immortal love, of course.

    • @marcusaureliusantoninus2597
      @marcusaureliusantoninus2597 9 років тому +1

      ***** Russia was a great power for almost 200 years. Sereval times did she defeat Ottoman Turkey, She disgraced Napoleon and Hitler. She liberated Balkan nations from Turkish rule - some directly, like Bulgarians, some indirectly, like Serbians or Greeks. She added much to the world literature, music, ballet, theatre and science. She managed to sew together a state that, though cut twice. still is a biggest country in the world.
      If this is not great, than what is?

      It was a multicultural multiethnic state and yes a predominantly greek empire .
      But simultaniuusly it was the Roman Empire politically. Greeks and the hellenised East continued the Roman Empire and the grecoroman culture.
      Greece can be seen today also as the Roman State of today. Its no wonder that Greeks are called also Romioi in greek folklore.

      It is said that he had wanted to die as a martyr in the field of battle, and was apparently disappointed when he knew that he would die in bed.[119] Khalid expressed the pain of this sadness through one last, anguished sentence:
      I've fought in so many battles seeking martyrdom that there is no spot in my body left without a scar or a wound made by a spear or sword. And yet here I am, dying on my bed like an old camel. May the eyes of the cowards never rest.[120]

      That doesn't make him any tactical battle field genius, that's called overzealousness.
      Xiahau dun, was a Christian mercenary who rose from being a slave to battle commander under Eastern ham empire. During a battle against their arch rivals, a stretch arrow hit his left eye, to the astonishment of his enemy he goggled his own eye balls. His enemy never ever dared to cross his path because of the 'one eyed beast'........he was a great warrior but that hardly translated him to any "military mastermind". That's basically "overzealousness"
