4 stripe white belt here: thanks for showing the north south choke so well. I really liked that you showed the little details. I have never seen the shin breaker before, may be interesting to try tonight. The submission I like to play with in the gi is the loop choke, and in no gi, the Ezekiel, which I'll sometimes try from mount or north south, and sometimes threaten just to get a reaction or force someone to take it seriously while I am working to improve my position. Again, great video, thanks!
One thing I love about these- they teach good habits. The first 2 will encourage top control and better wrestling which is my biggest gripe with BJJ (how can you call yourself a combat sport when people just sit down)

White belt here, 3 stripes. Thank you so much for your videos ! Really eye opening and love the slow motion cuts with partner/in the air ! For me personnally, I love the anaconda submission out of stance. Not very good in takedowns, so feels like a very lowrisk move to secure a grip while standing then rotate, go to the ground and finish the choke (since u are already in position)!
Brand new white belt here. I love your videos, your instruction is super easy to follow and I’ve learned a lot watching your videos. You’re absolutely right about finding kimura opportunities once you know what to look for. It’s quickly becoming my favorite sub because I find them all over the place now. I’ve been hit with the head and arm choke more than a few times in training I’m excited to try and give it a shot sometime soon. Love your videos keep up the awesome content 💪
The North South choke was one of the first subs I ever learned and as a 4-stripe blue it's still one of the subs I hit the most. The arm triangle is up there as well.
4 stripe white belt here, I use the half nelson choke, armbar, and bow and arrow all from technical mount. Haven't really seen too many other white belts playing around with attacks from technical mount, at least in my school! Great video, thanks for sharing and good luck with the new school!
Thank you for the coaching! I will try some of these at my next mat session. The slow-mo is great- a lot of moves are difficult to demonstrate at not full speed so it’s nice to see the technique as executed at full speed but with the video rolling slow. I also appreciate when professors use phrases like “toward the shoulder you want to attack” it’s much more helpful to visualize than something like “right” or “left” or “the other side”. As a white belt I am particularly fond of straight ankle locks and wrist locks.
Hi. Really great subs. I'm a tall skinny guy and I started jujitsu one year ago. I use the triangle choke a lot, whether it's from guard, mount or reverse triangle. I won my 1st match at AJP due to a reverse triangle. I practiced it in training a little bit and it works great for me. Other submissions that I use often are the anaconda, d'arce, kimura, guillotine, ezekiel and RNC. Thanks for the video. Great info. Oss!
Currently a white belt. I’ve landed an armbar, guillotine, inverted armbar and rear naked choke so far. Currently finishing up my first month so I’ll be using some of these in my rolls. Thank you for your detailed explanation.
Thanks for this! As a white belt starting way late in life, I’m always looking for high reward low risk even just to have to threaten while I work on more advanced techniques. Great channel 👊
Good info thanks. My son and I are white belts about 3 months in he's 7 and really good has his 1st tournament coming up at the beginning of next month trying to learn everything we can outside of class to give him the best chance
Im a white belt and I have a training partner here who is also a white belt and everytime i roll with him, atleast one of my bones or joints are in pain for a day or two What you said about trusting your partner and going with higher belts really hit home
Definitely following for more. Things I absolutely loved being a super new white belt: - The risk reward ratio you're showing - Talking in detail through the whole movement with ifs and buts - Also how you're showing how you personally perfect certain moves with making small intricate adjustments for precision
Excellent video, The level of detail and the slow motion really work well. I seem to remember working with you on the first two chokes!! I'm glad the school is doing so well!
Thank you, Ron! That means a lot coming from you. You’ve been a big part of my journey. Much of what I still use today was learned from you. I’m sure I’ll see you again soon at RGC. I’ve been coming back for classes when I can. And you’re always welcome to come check out Grindstone 🤙🏼
Thanks for the tips. (sub'd this channel) Just started training 2.5 months ago at 48yr old. The arm triangle has been working great. Kimora from gaurd and Ezekiel pretty well also. North south will definitely be added to the list.
I'm a purple belt and never seen that last one. Very interesting. I'll have to give it a shot! And yes, don't shy away from upper belts. Took me too long to learn that. If they are good you will learn so much! Also, if im struggling with something specific I just try it on a black belt I trust and see how they counter it. Best learning tool ever!
My best/most used techniques are the D'Arce (by quite a bit), arm triangle, then Ezekiel. Found massive success with all 3 of those since the start of my journey.
I’ll have to study more on the north/south choke as I couldn’t quite understand it. But I end up in cross body alot so it seems to be an easy transition to north/south but I need to study more details around it. I think I have the Kimura from bottom and the head and arm down fairly well. The shin lock I absolutely love it! Thanks for the vid!

3 stripe white belt as of yesterday, been using a lot of omaplatas and kimuras, although I train with a lot of big guys and higher belts so really focusing on positions. Zero gravity is fun, and working on a lot of wrestle ups too!
Ah I’m sorry to hear that. You could always get a practice dummy and learn through online training while practicing at your house. It’s not as good, but it’s something.
Hey I'm a 2 stripe white belt. I've only done Gi so far and my favourite submission is the Gi version of the Ezekiel choke. You can get it from almost every position and white belts don't expect it.
Blue Belt with a wrestling background here. I also favor the head and arm and north south chokes as well. I’ve been using them (or attempting to at any rate) since I got back into grappling a couple of years ago.
Wow! 😅 did MMA for 20 years, stopped 18 years ago, after having our first child. The advancement in BJJ is astounding. The white belts skills would have submitted me as a blue belt.
As a white belt it's kind of rare for me to get top position, but if I do, I am going to try that shin breaker. I'm not going to rip it, but I'll grab hold and slowly apply pressure and see if I can get a tap.

Quick question on the head and arm choke. Why don’t you just try to grab the near arm and neck rather then getting the far arm and then have to go to mount and then off to the other side? Just wondering I am sure there is a reason for it.
Good question. You could go for that way but it tends to more difficult to successfully get from the same side. Nothing wrong with trying it out in training and learning from the experience 🤙🏼
Just depends on the tournament you want to compete in. Always check the rule set to make sure. Unless your instructor has a problem with it, you should be able to practice it at your school
As a white belt I actually prefer rolling with higher belts. 8/10 times it's a good experience, only had 2 partners who really rip their subs hard. Granted, one of those two guys was really good with answering my questions as soon as I asked him and sharing information, took a lot of time to teach me what he was doing and why; only wish he would've dialled the intensity down 10% so I could process the action better.
How did I just come across your channel today? Well explained, well demonstrated, well executed. Thank you coach. Subscribed. P.s. I went ahead and bought the same exact rashguard.
What I don’t understand about the north south choke is what are you using to apply the choke? Is it like a forearm choke? Or are you squeezing from both sides?
Keylock & Wrist lock all day The wrist lock aka the electric chair is highly overlooked. your opponent or training partner has two of them and they are always vulnerable
