Informative video. I had 3 skylights replaced. Looked terrible from the street. Didn't put shingles on correctly. Then they messed with the flashing so much it would set flat. I never went on the roof to see what was actually going on. This video allows me to see the installation. Thank you.
Great video! I love the strength test at the end. orientation was a bit tricky for me at the beginning due to the window being flat on the ground and the camera man running around.....once the flashing kit started going in I got it. You make it look easy. Keep up the good work.
I have installed at least 4 of these, and I am not a pro, but I do follow directions, just like this Canadian fellow, I have not had even a drip of a leak. We are talking snow storms, hurricanes and the whole nine yards. My oldest skylights are about 20 years old, so pre flashing kit that Velux offers.
Such a great video!!! I was really confused about the skylight installation for my college project. This is so helpful. Also you make it seem so easy to install. It took me more time to just understand lol.
That was a great video! Love the strength test at the end. One small suggestion, I had a hard time keeping the orientation straight due to the unit being flat on the ground and the camera rotation. It's obvious once you put the step flashing but something I noticed. I wish you lived in Massachusetts so I could hire you. Nice work and a very informative video.
Agree. I've been looking for a flat roof window and have come across Mardome at www.roofingmegastore.co.uk/roofing-categories/roof-windows/flat-roof-windows.html. Do you have an opinion on whether there is a particular brand to consider over others? Thanks!
Front piece of Peel and stick should be put on after the shingles are are close to the front. Think about how water works. If water somehow goes under the step on the sides and runs down, it's just going to run under the shingles and cause a leak. If you have the bottom peel and stick overtop of the shingle by a inch, then it will just run overtop and escape then be overtop of all the shingles below it.
I've seen 3 200 pound guys stand on one of those, very good skylight, I prefer the curb mount style myself. But from what i hear, curb mount are not allowed in all areas since building codes change from place to place.
You have some video installing those over a metal roof? And the cameran man a little close the camera to watch well the joints, thanks nice video you 10 the camera guy 5.
After watching a number of skylight installation videos I'm convinced that all skylight installations will unfortunately eventually leak. They don't factor in snow drifts, ice dams, wind storms, and lastly raining like hail.
John S I have 2 skylight in my home over 25 years, none ever leaked! I am replacing one that is in a 30 ft. tall Area, with one of the new Velux motorized units. The flow of fresh, cool air is amazing. This allows the central air to cool down the entire house in minutes. NO LEAKS!
Eventually the building will fall down - given enough time. All products have a usable life span. Other option is don't install a skylight. Skylights add cost but I think they are worth it.
Really enjoyed how thorough this install was! Probably the most straightforward advice for a skylight install on UA-cam. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Finally, someone that knows how to install an skylight correctly, the only thing missing is the underlying or felt paper
tin shingles wrong instalation he is supose to put one tin shingle one shingle one tin shingle one shingle
Nice job! Excellent instruction and narration; and most of all, a very high-quality installation. Brilliant!!!

Great video - much more clear and concise the the one Velux themselves produced. Many thnaks!
Very good video. Good tip on using the shingles underneath to draw any possible water away via channels
Great video. Orientation for some may be confusing. I like the challange you had with the last piece of trim. It happens all the time in the field.

Great video. If anyone is still monitoring this channel I have just one question. Why put the bottom rubber gasket flashing on ( after) the sides?
Fantastic video!
Awesome job I wish I could hire him
Simplesmente um serviço maravilhoso, ótimo profissional.
Bottom, then the sides, then the top, when applying waterproofing tape.
He is. This skylight is wider than it is tall. The orientation in the video is a bit confusing.
Thanks for teaching .good video
Good job for a Canuck!

another good point never put nails close to the thinshingles if do so you need to caulk the nail
I would like to know one reason! Do we need to get city permit to install this skylight?
Great video.
good job i being a roofer for 23 years for me in order to water stack i dont use a shingles around the skylight only at the bottom par for starter
Hi, Is it fine to have a skylight on a perfectly flat roof using a curb installation? Thanks

Thank you, good job.

you installed the stick seal wrong.....the bottom goes on first....then the sides overlap the bottom.....then the top overlaps the sides......
I agree
He did. Video orientation was just weird. Look at the shingles.
@@gyse6920 ...good call.....I missed that......I'm not used to seeing skylights where the longer side is parallel with the eave.....cheers
aquaberry? like Jody Highroller?
Ur suppose to nail into the tar line thats what ALL manufactures say
its a great video! why did you ruin a $200 skylight in the end, theres no need for that
