Here is what separates this Audio review channel from the sea of others out there. Reviewing "sound" is so subjective and as he described biased, so many channels will review a piece of gear and at the end of the video you realize they've told you nothing except ... they think it's good. This channel describes the details in such terms that help you understand and you can almost taste what he's describing coming from these speakers in your head. He is very good in how he conveys the important finite specifics that truly make these speakers different from the rest. When you appreciate the finer details in your audio listening, hearing someone like this describe the sound you can expect from this gear shows his ear for sound and knowledge is above the rest of crowd of review channels out there.
Interesting that a very well known online hifi review magazine only gave these speakers a measly 3/5 stars? Well done Tarun, we know where to come... Great review, many thanks..
Well, I bought these, partly influenced by Tarun’s well-crafted review. I auditioned them first. They are warm without being unfocused and crisp without being sibilant. Excellent sound staging and with a 'live' and confident feel. What I especially like about them is that they don't lose coherence at high volumes and/or with complex music like massed instruments or singers. I don't really care what they look like and I'm not going to fuss over how shiny they are - it's the sound I'm interested in. I'd definitely recommend them, especially at the very low price for what you get. Listen first and if you like them, don't hesitate.
Man, you must be one of the best HiFi reviewers out there. Always clear, and simple description/explanations which makes it easier for us to compare and choose. Stellar job.
As an electrical engineer with experience in audio physics, I should point out the flaw in stating that ribbon / planar drivers move faster than dome drivers. They actually move at the same speed. The two main differences are the resonance break-up frequency and radiating pattern. For soft dome tweeters, their diaphragms begin to harmonically oscillate around ~7-10khz. For aluminum, ~10-15khz, and for Be / diamond, they often breakup beyond the range of human hearing. The radiating surface beaming effects by far contribute the most to a tweeters sound profile; many ribbons will have a ~13mm horizontal radiating surface, whereas a dome can be twice that width. This allows ribbons to cast a much wider sound field than dome tweeters, which can be more pleasant to some listeners in some rooms compared to dome tweeters.
His ProAcs use smaller dome tweeters, so perhaps he likes wide dispersion. Also don't many aluminium dome tweeters break up above 20kHz these days? Some over 30kHz. Certain Beryllium also doesn't seem to break up, it just goes up to over 40kHz and rolls off
@@supergrissi no, that would also be incorrect. The mass of air in front of the diaphragm provides an acoustic impedance much, much greater than the inertia of the diaphragm itself, at least when it comes to frequencies and volumes humans can tolerate.
I love the way that Tarun ditches the bland descriptions and dives into the nitty-gritty of the sound. I always get a clear picture of what makes speakers sing (or, you know, not sing) without any unnecessary theatrics. It's a refreshingly honest take that doesn't leave me scratching my head. Thank you 😁😁
Hi Tarun, it is always very satisfying to watch one of your videos where a product gets an outstanding. It feels a bit like hitting the jackpot on a one arm bandit without having to throw coins in it.
so....i decided to buy a pair of Quads after watching and rewatching (several times) tarun's video. have lived with the speakers for only 2 weeks and for whomever cares, these are my impressions: lots of weight and depth in the sound. beautiful wide soundstage. they do sound bigger than they are, and present a very lush, refined, and to a certain extent, 'hi-fi sound' (by that i mean: relaxed and enjoy the music presentation). for me though, they are a bit too warm on the lower mids and color the sound too much making bass attack a bit sluggish when you have a 'presto' or 'allegro' passage in an orchestral/choral work. very top register is also a bit too smoothed out for my taste. i think they sound best with small ensemble music: jazz trios, singer and pianist (lieder repertoire), old school rock (taking away a bit off from the nasty harsh upper register). lingering of notes/tails is long, perhaps a bit too much for my taste, contributing to its sluggish character on fast orchestral music. compared to the ATC SCM11 i just sold...well, the presentation of the Quads is more 'refined', more depth and weight, more dynamics as well, but less detail retrieval than the ATCs and less honest than the ATCs. overall, i prefer the ATCs honesty. I did the test with solo piano music, bach cello suites, solo harpsichord music (bach, d'anglebert, couperin)... yes, it all sounds more "pretty" on the Quads, but less honest. just more makeup, which is not what i'm looking for. I guess the ATC scm19 or something from REVEL (M105 perhaps?), KLH Model 3?? ... are next on my list. as always, thanks tarun for your in depth reviews!
Well that's a great question! Budget so often dictates dream kit, and one man's unobtainium is anothers run off the mill. For me, two particular items were my dream kit one I have, one I don't... The first was the set of Rotel michi passive pre amp, phono stage and power amp. As an 18 year old Saturday boy in a hifi shop, the build quality and immense control that the pre power combo had driving kef reference 107 speakers was awe inspiring. Having finally got all three after 30 years hunting, they truly do not disappoint. The second is the neat acoustics ultimatum xls speakers. A friend has them and they are so revealing, with such beautiful deep bass for a stand mount speaker but it's the upwards firing super tweeters that give a superb height to the treble and i have never heard anything like it. They are the only thing to replace my kef reference 105.3 s at some point in the future.
Have had mine for about three months. I agree almost completely but for the negative comments about the upper base. I like the warmth and finde it completely natural. I've been looking for a speaker that can reproduce the sound of high baroque stringed instruments in a natural way, without harshness. The revela 1 does that in a beautiful way. I drive them with a quad artera stereo (140 w in 8 ohm) and I can imagine less power could create less grip, especially in the base. Of course I can imagine even more detailed sound, but probably not at 1700 £. As I'm writing I'm listening to Herreweghes recording of Beethovens 8 on pentatone. The small classical kettle drums played with wooden sticks sounds amazingly real.
Another great review. I had a set of these for a home audition. I also had the Dali Rubicon 2’s, had them for a few weeks. I loved the Quads and I liked the warm (for my ears) characteristic’s compared to the Rubicon’s. I almost pulled the trigger and bought a set, I was settled on them. However, much to my wife’s unhappiness I swapped my home office to a much bigger room and I found myself playing the rubicons more and more, I felt the rubicons gave more detail (again , to my ears) . I eventually settled on the Rubicons, but not the 2’s, I did place an order for a set of 2’s, but then a set of Rubicon 6’s came up for sale from my HIFI shop I was using as trade in. But, the Quads were a nice speaker, an almost purchase. I am running a Luxman 507z amp and HiFi Rose 150b pre/streamer.
I enjoy how concise your reviews are. Btw. I agree with your points on styling. If it wasn't for the mandatory black gloss finishes these would now be on my wish list.
I really need to try a listen to some speakers with such tweeters. I really only have experience with traditional drivers. Those look like winners for the $. It was due mostly to this channel I ended up with the ATC SCM 19s I have, which was spot on review wise.
Ascend Sierra offers good value if you don't mind a "basic" finish. The ribbon tweeter models use RAAL ribbons Monitor Audio gold 100 uses an AMT. Older versions used an actual ribbon; though MA thought the AMT was better for low distortion
Great review, as always! To answer the question, I aspire to own MBL speakers some day (obviously from the used market and one of the two lower-end models, for budget reasons...). The reason is, I've listened to them in shows and in house setups and their sound dispersion in the room is beyond amazing! I like the aesthetics as well of course...
I'm still using a pair of Quad 12L speakers I bought new about 10+ years ago. Sweet speakers. Quad never got enough credit for their conventional speakers.
Thank you Tauren for another great review. Im delighted Quad have such a winner on their hands. You asked for end game aspirations? I hit 60 this year and am lucky enough to be moving to 'end game' on a couple of my components. Im unbeliebably happy with my Wharfdale Elysian 3 speakers and dont intend to move on from them. Ive made the switch to tube front end married to solid state power via the Mcintosh MA252 hybrid intergrated, and again, Im not sure I want anything more - at this level of fidelity Ive changed from pursuing 'more truth', to wanting more 'romantic warmth and liquidity' and Ive not heard it done better than this amp. So its just my front end where I'll dream of updates, my auralic g1 sounds much better than it has any rights to, but its very outclassed. Dream combo atm is the G2. 2 streamer like yourself, and I think maybeca hugo tt2, but Ive yet to hear it. Have a great day mate.
🙋♂️THANKS 🙏 TARUN FOR YOUR REVIEW OF THESE SPECIAL SPEAKERS …time will tell what we may choose, because this is the best time to be an audiophile…SO FAR 💚💚💚
Thanks for another review of speakers in a more affordable range. To answer your question, I would love to have a pair of Perlisten towers. The reviews have been great but the price is beyond my budget. I would also like to own a McIntosh amp with the blue meters. Just for the looks. I almost bought a pair of JBL L100 Classics that were a good deal just because they were speakers I wanted back in the 70s but couldn’t afford. My next purchase instead will be a pair of bookshelves with matching stands that they are securely attached to for another system that has limited space. My musical journey continues. Peace, love and music.
It's been a long time, but I have never experienced greater transparency than the old Quad ESL 57s, how I wish that I had bought them when I was young and single.
Note the heavily radiused Revela's cabinets. My DIY work with very large cab edge (3/4 - 1.5" router bits) rounder-overs suggests a distinct HF performance improvement. The wonderful Ellis 1801b with the Hiquphon OW1 tweeter demonstrated this dramatically. (These speakers were lost in a fire.)
your reviews always give me a great perspective on the products you review. This one has me very intrigued! I'd love for you to compare and/or review the KEF R3 Metas as they are currently a UA-cam favourite. Thanks again for a great review!
A speaker with a ribbon tweeter included in its design is worth a listen . I have Castle Avon 5s with a ribbon tweeter and with its other design aspects have a clarity and detail I have not found elsewhere. I can see them remaining in my system for a long time.
I try not to be too aspirational, but I’ve always wanted a pair of classic ATC. Take the way you feel about ribbon tweeters, change from not liking to loving and you’ll have how I feel about dome midrange drivers. I love them hopelessly, but they’re also tricky to integrate with other drivers.
I am a big Canton fan with a pair of immaculate 3-way Karat 40's and 2-way Karat 30''s which I upgraded x-overs, speaker terminals and copper coated silver wire internals . They now sing beyond my wildest expectations for a total outlay of roughly 800 quid. Connected to a pair of Nakamichi 600 series amps and a Luxman C02 Pre-amp.
Hey Tarun, a great review of the Quads! As you know, I took a big step forward in my journey last week with the acquisition of my Ekos II arm. I’ll have to assess the difference that’s going to make before I work out what’s next, but with a Linn turntable, I’ll never be short of inspiration! I suspect the next steps will be to mount the power supply externally to make room for a bearing upgrade to the current spec Karousel. I’ve heard it makes a huge difference.
Thanks Tarun, very interesting... I'm currently considering swapping my 20 year old B&W 805 Nautilus stand mounts, not for these Revela 1's, but for the Revela 2 floor mounts or the Z3 Floor mounts. Not made a decision yet but I need to audition both speakers. I won't be retiring or selling the 805's, they're a great speaker but will be in another listening room paired to vintage Linn pre and power amp. The new quads will be driven by the Quad Artera pre-amp and my staggering good Dartzeel D5 Pro clone power amp.
Its been almost a year since i was blown away by these Revela 1 at NW Audio Show but i am no closer to forgetting that ear opening moment. Genuinely i MUCH preferred their sound to all but everything else at the show other than some very pricey ML Electrostatics (which made Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as if i hadnt heard it 200 times already). But still, and in all seriousness these little beauts played sweeter with their incoming Quad Platina equipment than some FAR pricier YG Acoustics and Kef Blades on £00000's worth of Naim stuff. They have left a very audible memory imprint that i hope to recapture. I therefore would love a set of Revela 2 on the end of my Icon 845PP and hope that it happens soon!
I must admit ribbon is my preference for HF, XTZ 99.25 and the AMT Monitor audio gold 100, Even the Castle Anon 1s give exceptional performance . I had and sold the Quad s4, just not enough (prat) there . These sound like a speaker for me, but parting with the three I have is a tough ask . Thank you again Tarun, great review ..
i love quads , still using my quad 11Lfor my rears , i dont know how many years they were speaker of the year in what hifi ,i loved my 21 L as well , just bought my first ribbon speakers the monitor audio gold 100 5g and love there clarity , they go great with my roksan attessa streaming amp as same company , am thinking of buying eversolo dmp-a8 next purchase ................
Nice reveiw, just bought the much cheaper Quad S2's partnerd with the audiolab 6000a + cdt sounds great, thinking about getting the 7000a at some point.
Great review. Been following your channel since the start. I see my hifi journey as improving on the cheap until I take a jump into a better Amp, maybe £1000-1500 then go from there
I've had my Quad Vena 2 amp for a while now and it still impresses, great build quality and a good muscular sound, for my smallish room and the price anyway. IAG seem to have a lot of brands to juggle, good to see Quad getting some love again after the recent Wharfdale and Mission releases. I need to upgrade my speakers although i suspect the Reveala 1's might be a step too far for the little Vena2. Perhaps a nice Dali though... great video, btw !
I own a pair of Proac 1sc driven by Willsenton R800i-805 just like you do. Recently, I got pair of Living Voice R25A last week. They sound extremely good driven by the same amp.
yeah, I love thin-film tweeters (amt, planar, ribbon) tweeters. I have the GoldenEar BRX (amt ribbon tweeters) and if I ever upgrade it would be to the Borreson X1. Now I can also consider the Quad Revela 1. Apple Music lossless
I love the look and I take your word for it when it comes to their sound quality. I have the Willsenton R8 and have Mullard kt88 and Meltz tubes and sounds great to me. Appreciate the video.
As usual a fantastic review Taron, the quads on their dedicated stands look very purposeful, just a little bit large for what I'd be comfortable with in my room. Another speaker that might be of interest, considering your fondness of Dali speakers, the Rubikore 2 look very interesting indeed, kind of sit between the Menuet se and Epicon 2 but with newer tech involved.....not sure if I'm ready to part with my neat petite classics just yet but I'm always interested in your own search for "THE" replacement of your beloved Proacs.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 Oh no, another seriously good looking contender in this price range I will need to consider. Must stop reading UA-cam comments.
Excellent review yet again, As on owner of Dynaudio Evoke 10 + Dynaudio 9S subwoofer combo in a small study, the only loudspeaker in the world I would consider a viable upgrade ("summit speaker") is Dynaudio Contour 20i. For my ears, no other brand gets the same blend of treble detail, bass dynamics and midrange body as the best Dynaudio standmounts.
@@CinemaDemocratica Fair call. But please be aware the low sensitivity is needed to get dynamic sound out of the midbass driver with a high current solid state Class AB amplifier. The best amplifier pairing for Dynaudio these days is Rotel, which offers a large range from affordable to premium models, each one being very competitive at its price point.
@@connorduke4619 A couple of Audiolab 8300MBs in balanced mode drive my Dynaudios just fine, and you can pick them up for £1400 a pair ATM. Now the new 9000 (which appear to have very similar stats) are here they might not be available for long.
Great review. I was considering these and was waiting for a review like this…but unfortunately for me my wife doesn’t like stand mount speakers. But I hope in the future these might be a good bookshelf for my 📺 room.
Thank you for another wonderful review. I am in the lookout for a new pair of speakers and really interested in the Alta Audio ones. As far as my fantasy set up, I used to have a Shindo Garrard turntable a long time ago and would like to get back to another Garrard 301 at some point, ideally with a Koetsu cartridge and an Ongaku amp. One can always dream! Thanks again for all your excellent reviews.
Fabulous as always! I aspire to purchase the KEFs Reference 1 Meta. The best stand mount I may have ever listened to at this point. Another that took me totally by surprise at the Montreal Audiofest and considerably less expensive to the the KEFS, was Yamaha's NS-800A. What a bang for the buck (or pound). Would love for you to review both!
Great review Tarun - once I cobble up the funds to upgrade, these speakers will definitely be in the mix. Interesting you mentioned the Sonus Faber Concerto - I have the Concertino Home edition, beautiful speakers and their matching stands. Still love them. Would love to see a series where you look back and rate older speakers, if you ever get the time.
Great review. Definitely going on my shortlist. I’d love to see you review Karl-Heinz Fink’s new Epos ES-7N bookshelf speakers in the same/similar price point.
I heard this speaker at a show, and it sounded great and looked amazing, however I agree with you on the matte black finish, that would have been better. To answer your question - I would like to live with a Vivid Audio Kaya 45 / Fischer&Fischer SL 370AMT speaker, WEISS DAC501 (room acoustics, DAC, streamer + preamp) and a power amplifier from Heed or AGD.
As always a great video. It was really informative. It is always nice to see that your ProAc can be rivalled in the current market. On another note, thanks to you I was able to find the perfect gear for me. If you want another option for your reviews, I recommend the Audio Analogue AAcento since I find it to be an excellent amplifier.
I broke down and ordered a par (your fault again!) to compare them to my ATC SCM 19s. I have very little experience with ribbon/AMT type tweeters as they sounded terrible when I heard them in the 80s. These Quads look like a great performance for $, and I will report back with my own review asap.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 For sure. Quad can thank you directly for the purchase. Whether I keep them because I end preferring them over my reference ATC SCM 19s remains to be seen.
How are the Quads mids in comparison to the ATC? And how is the off axis listening experience? Does the ribbon tweeter have a narrower sweet spot in comparison to the ATC?
Hi Tarun, it was great to see you today at the London Audio Show. Hope you have got a chance to listen to Russell K speakers. I think they were one of the best (alongside gorgeously white MADs). Is there a chance you can get them for review? Particularly the Red 50se model.
I love your channel and review style even if I won't be buying most of the equipment you review. Since you asked, I aspire to build as much of my system as I can myself. I believe DIY is the best value for money. Of course, not everyone has an electronics backgound or the time/iskills to DIY. That said, I can't build a ladder DAC to rival Denefrips, Holo, etc. So I will probably buy one based partly on your excellent reviews of those products. Thank you for those!
I wonder if these Quads would partner well with my Sugden P28 monoblocks. But high praise indeed! IAG R&D can be seen cross pollinating through their speaker and amplifier ranges and it seems Peter has done it yet again with these Revelas.
Hi Fi destination for me, space permitting, would be an Accuphase Class A setup. Having heard the Kerr Acoustics you mention, a pair of those, or again space allowing, their larger K200 model. Of course, I have no idea if this would actually be a good pairing, but there we go 😀
On my radar is, Audio GD HE-1 MK3 Solid-state Pre Amp with Regenerative power supply working as your private electric generator, Real Balanced ACSS Pure Class A Preamp. Then couple it with the Audio GD Master-3A Power Amp (Over kill Build). Speakers = either Atlantis Lab AT21 or AT23. Or the AM AUDIO DESIGN, MAESTRO SPEAKERS. Or maybe a set of Duevel Venus Omni Directional Speakers.
Excelent review Tarun! I think they are speakers difficult to beat in it's category because of their tonality and clearity and must be great matching/sinergy with Platina series amp!!!! thanks for reviewing these ones!
I’m a Quad fan, so thrilled with this review. Was hoping for a comparison with the Dali Menuet SEs, particularly midrange and low volume quality. Did you get a chance to do this, although it didn’t make it into the video?
I did compare to the Menuet SEs but left it out of the review to focus on speakers that are more likely to be placed in a similar situation. The Meneuts are great in the nearfield but start to loose dynamics when place more than 2m away. The Menuets have a similar tonality to my ProAcs, but not quite as open being smaller speakers than the 1SCs. The Revela 1s are also more open sounding than the Menuet SEs. In summary, I would keep the Menuet SEs for nearfield listening but the Quads are better in larger spaces 😊
@@abritishaudiophile7314 many thanks for this, Tarun. I understand why it isn’t in the video, but now you have given me all the information I need 🙏🏼 you’re awesome!
Good review as usual. I've spent the least 3 or so months thinking/believing the Bucharrdt S400 could be the next and last upgrade for me after reading forums and watching many reviewer's go on about them. Then you come in with this!!! Now I'm confused. That being said these quad speaker's I personally find visually unappealing. Then there is the "Darth Vader" speakers you reviewed in a previous video, to me they are just fugly. I don't have the luxury of having a seperate listening room, so hi-fi equipment needs to be in my living room so i want something i feel is nice to look at and attract looks and questions from guests. As you said towards the end most people dont know where there hi-fi equipment will take them.... For me I'm pretty sure my next step will take me to the s400's as the general consensus seems they are good i general. Also to me they look so flipping good especially in the rose wood or rust.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 Thanks for the reply. Good to know that they forgive room's more (I need that), I also need the forgiveness with partnering equipment. I don't have the money to keep chopping and changing equipment. Yes I can go second hand and trial and error, I don't have the patience of listing stuff on websites like eBay only to have my item bought and it turn up "not working". Currently I have a mis-match of a system currently naim 5si amp, marantz cd cd6005 and some 30 year old B&W 601 S2 "reference" speaker's. I like the sound, but I know it can be so much more, so I'm thinking speaker's will give me biggest bang for my buck.
The Darth vader speakers are actually more appealing looks wise at the moment for me after seeing this Quad speaker again. Must be the all gloss and the chrome trim + rounded corners on the Quad makes it too garish.
Great review again Tarun, thanks a lot ! My first serious speakers were Quad LS12. I wonder how these reviewed Quads are compared with Dali Rubicon 2 monitor speakers (new about € 2.000,-)
I've been curious about this speaker, so thanks for the excellent review. I also don't much care for the looks -- why do speaker manufacturers want to hide beautiful natural wood behind black plastic?
Goodness, Tarun, since when did being hit hard in the nether regions become a good thing? Personally I try to avoid it, though a good playground kick in the frontal region can produce an impressively high treble. Peter Comeau and his teams are doing a grand job producing good value speakers at various price points which sound excellent regardless of musical genre, and look great to boot. The Wharfedale retro reboots get all the attention, but the Elysians and the last few Quad ranges are quietly excellent.
Hey Tarun, I guess the tip I gave you about these a week or so ago was a bit late! Ha! These seem like dynamite speakers and the stand design is quite unique as well (attractive to me, but likely will divide opinion).
I would like to review them but ProAc politely informed me that they are only sending products to reviewers that have long established relationships with 😊
Pleasure and genuinely impressed with the quality of your channel! And what about above £3k - perhaps more in proportion to the cost of the Exposure kit? Proac’s?
Thank you. Much appreciated. I have requested the 5010 pre and 3510 monoblocks for review. I hope to find out how good they are. Exposure don’t seem to be in a hurry to send them to me 😉👍
Please Tarun, reach Wharfedale for the new Super Lintons, for all its legacy and being at similar price I'm curious how it does with Comeau's own Revela 1.

That's why I have full range Magnepan's
Great explanation thanks 🙏
His ProAcs use smaller dome tweeters, so perhaps he likes wide dispersion.
Also don't many aluminium dome tweeters break up above 20kHz these days? Some over 30kHz.
Certain Beryllium also doesn't seem to break up, it just goes up to over 40kHz and rolls off
I believe he by "fast" means that they, because of their low mass, are fast accelerating, not necessarily faster moving, but that is just me...
@@supergrissi no, that would also be incorrect. The mass of air in front of the diaphragm provides an acoustic impedance much, much greater than the inertia of the diaphragm itself, at least when it comes to frequencies and volumes humans can tolerate.

Perfect comments !
so....i decided to buy a pair of Quads after watching and rewatching (several times) tarun's video. have lived with the speakers for only 2 weeks and for whomever cares, these are my impressions: lots of weight and depth in the sound. beautiful wide soundstage. they do sound bigger than they are, and present a very lush, refined, and to a certain extent, 'hi-fi sound' (by that i mean: relaxed and enjoy the music presentation). for me though, they are a bit too warm on the lower mids and color the sound too much making bass attack a bit sluggish when you have a 'presto' or 'allegro' passage in an orchestral/choral work. very top register is also a bit too smoothed out for my taste. i think they sound best with small ensemble music: jazz trios, singer and pianist (lieder repertoire), old school rock (taking away a bit off from the nasty harsh upper register). lingering of notes/tails is long, perhaps a bit too much for my taste, contributing to its sluggish character on fast orchestral music. compared to the ATC SCM11 i just sold...well, the presentation of the Quads is more 'refined', more depth and weight, more dynamics as well, but less detail retrieval than the ATCs and less honest than the ATCs. overall, i prefer the ATCs honesty.
@@themastroiannis thank you for sharing your experience 😊
Great. Thanks for sharing 👍

This is my go to audio review channel, thank you!
Much appreciated 😊👍
Thank you for sharing your experience Mark 😊
I enjoy how concise your reviews are. Btw. I agree with your points on styling. If it wasn't for the mandatory black gloss finishes these would now be on my wish list.
Thank you. I would love to see a satin finish 😊
Always cool to see an good old brand like that stay in the top....( for price we know😋) thank for the review... love the look of this jewels....

Thank you. Much appreciated 😊👍
Thanks, Tarun, for a great review. "Hi-Fi News" loved them too.
I really need to try a listen to some speakers with such tweeters. I really only have experience with traditional drivers. Those look like winners for the $. It was due mostly to this channel I ended up with the ATC SCM 19s I have, which was spot on review wise.
Thank you Will. Much appreciated 😊👍
Ascend Sierra offers good value if you don't mind a "basic" finish. The ribbon tweeter models use RAAL ribbons
Monitor Audio gold 100 uses an AMT.
Thank you Kostas 😊
I'm still using a pair of Quad 12L speakers I bought new about 10+ years ago. Sweet speakers. Quad never got enough credit for their conventional speakers.
Cool 😎
Loving the compare and contrast with vintage gear Tarun. Many a fine tune played on an old fiddle.
Thank you Joe 👍
Me too. I don’t mind HiFi equipment that adds some “romance” either. I’d call it character 😎🎵🎶

Thank you for sharing 😊
It's been a long time, but I have never experienced greater transparency than the old Quad ESL 57s, how I wish that I had bought them when I was young and single.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Note the heavily radiused Revela's cabinets. My DIY work with very large cab edge (3/4 - 1.5" router bits) rounder-overs suggests a distinct HF performance improvement. The wonderful Ellis 1801b with the Hiquphon OW1 tweeter demonstrated this dramatically.
(These speakers were lost in a fire.)
Shame about the fire. Thank you for sharing 😊
Edge diffraction is a thing :)
your reviews always give me a great perspective on the products you review. This one has me very intrigued! I'd love for you to compare and/or review the KEF R3 Metas as they are currently a UA-cam favourite. Thanks again for a great review!
Thank you. That would be a cool comparison 😊
ABA is so smart and witty. Good job!
Thank you kindly 😊👍
A speaker with a ribbon tweeter included in its design is worth a listen . I have Castle Avon 5s with a ribbon tweeter and with its other design aspects have a clarity and detail I have not found elsewhere. I can see them remaining in my system for a long time.
Thx for sharing 😊
I try not to be too aspirational, but I’ve always wanted a pair of classic ATC. Take the way you feel about ribbon tweeters, change from not liking to loving and you’ll have how I feel about dome midrange drivers. I love them hopelessly, but they’re also tricky to integrate with other drivers.
Thank you for sharing 😊
I am a big Canton fan with a pair of immaculate 3-way Karat 40's and 2-way Karat 30''s which I upgraded x-overs, speaker terminals and copper coated silver wire internals . They now sing beyond my wildest expectations for a total outlay of roughly 800 quid. Connected to a pair of Nakamichi 600 series amps and a Luxman C02 Pre-amp.
Cool 😎
would love a listening session in your room Tarun, thanks for the review!
Thank you Robert. That would be cool 😎
Thanks Mark. I am sure that Ekos II will be a nice upgrade 👍
@@joemalone7385 thx for sharing 😊
Quad really stepped it up. The Platina also looks really promising. I just wish there was a matte finish option on the speakers.
Thx for sharing 😊
I must admit ribbon is my preference for HF, XTZ 99.25 and the AMT Monitor audio gold 100, Even the Castle Anon 1s give exceptional performance . I had and sold the Quad s4, just not enough (prat) there .
These sound like a speaker for me, but parting with the three I have is a tough ask .

Great 👍
instead condsider a pair of 8300MBs in front of yor 6000a as preamp...
Great review. Been following your channel since the start. I see my hifi journey as improving on the cheap until I take a jump into a better Amp, maybe £1000-1500 then go from there
Thank you 😊
I've had my Quad Vena 2 amp for a while now and it still impresses, great build quality and a good muscular sound, for my smallish room and the price anyway.
Thank you for sharing 👍
I own a pair of Proac 1sc driven by Willsenton R800i-805 just like you do. Recently, I got pair of Living Voice R25A last week. They sound extremely good driven by the same amp.
Cool 😎
yeah, I love thin-film tweeters (amt, planar, ribbon) tweeters.
I have the GoldenEar BRX (amt ribbon tweeters) and if I ever upgrade it would be to the Borreson X1.
Now I can also consider the Quad Revela 1.

Thank you. Much appreciated. I am interested in reviewing the Rubikore 2s 😊👍
Cool 😎

I heard this speaker at a show, and it sounded great and looked amazing, however I agree with you on the matte black finish, that would have been better.

I broke down and ordered a par (your fault again!) to compare them to my ATC SCM 19s. I have very little experience with ribbon/AMT type tweeters as they sounded terrible when I heard them in the 80s. These Quads look like a great performance for $, and I will report back with my own review asap.
Cool 😎 please let me know how you get on 👍
@@abritishaudiophile7314 For sure. Quad can thank you directly for the purchase. Whether I keep them because I end preferring them over my reference ATC SCM 19s remains to be seen.
And how did you get on?
How are the Quads mids in comparison to the ATC? And how is the off axis listening experience? Does the ribbon tweeter have a narrower sweet spot in comparison to the ATC?

Hi Tarun, it was great to see you today at the London Audio Show. Hope you have got a chance to listen to Russell K speakers. I think they were one of the best (alongside gorgeously white MADs). Is there a chance you can get them for review? Particularly the Red 50se model.
Thank you Alex. It was a real joy to meet so many people at the show such as yourself. Regarding the Red 50SEs, watch this space 😊👍
Hi Tarun. Thank you very much for the video. It looks like a Terminator II underneath the Auralic Aries G1.1 😉.
Thanks. Well spotted. I was using the Auralic Aries G1 transport feeding the Denafrips Terminator 12th Anniversary DAC as a digital front end 😊
Thank you. Much appreciated 😊👍
I wonder if these Quads would partner well with my Sugden P28 monoblocks. But high praise indeed! IAG R&D can be seen cross pollinating through their speaker and amplifier ranges and it seems Peter has done it yet again with these Revelas.
It would be worth trying it out 😊
I have the quad s-2 with a rel T/5 sub going through a Vincent Sv 500 it’s a bit low rent, but it’s where I’m ending up. I’m happy.

I’m a Quad fan, so thrilled with this review. Was hoping for a comparison with the Dali Menuet SEs, particularly midrange and low volume quality. Did you get a chance to do this, although it didn’t make it into the video?
I would love to know the same since I already own the minuet se in Walnut
Thank you. The S400 aren’t as resolving as the Revela 1s but are more forgiving of rooms, positioning and partnering equipment 😊
Wish more folks would review LSA speakers. Underwood HiFi has them. And quad . Always wondered about the Quads

Great review again Tarun, thanks a lot ! My first serious speakers were Quad LS12. I wonder how these reviewed Quads are compared with Dali Rubicon 2 monitor speakers (new about € 2.000,-)

Another awesome review. I wonder how these compare to spendor 4/5 classic on near field setup.
Thank you. I hope to find out some day 😊👍
I’d like to know your opinion on the Revela 2s? Considering them against the wharfedale aura 4s
To me they look just like Monitor Audio, a striking resemblance. Apart from the drivers they really do look like Monitor Audio 😊
I get that 😊
Great review! Now that you're doing ribbons, when will we see how the Proac D2R perform?
They have declined my offer to review their products in the past 😊
I've been curious about this speaker, so thanks for the excellent review. I also don't much care for the looks -- why do speaker manufacturers want to hide beautiful natural wood behind black plastic?

Apologies for that, glad you like it 😊
Some great bookshelve speakers there , I must get a pair of proac to hear them , nice review
Thx 😊
Goodness, Tarun, since when did being hit hard in the nether regions become a good thing? Personally I try to avoid it, though a good playground kick in the frontal region can produce an impressively high treble.
Peter Comeau and his teams are doing a grand job producing good value speakers at various price points which sound excellent regardless of musical genre, and look great to boot. The Wharfedale retro reboots get all the attention, but the Elysians and the last few Quad ranges are quietly excellent.
Thank you Jim. It is only my HiFi that gets away with kicking me there 🤣
Hey Tarun, I guess the tip I gave you about these a week or so ago was a bit late! Ha! These seem like dynamite speakers and the stand design is quite unique as well (attractive to me, but likely will divide opinion).
I hope you enjoy the review 😊
The best 'affordable' stand mounts I've heard are the Proac Response D2R I'm sure they are on your list to try? A lot cheaper than Kerr Acoustics etc.
I would like to review them but ProAc politely informed me that they are only sending products to reviewers that have long established relationships with 😊
Great review and high praise indeed! So if you were about to buy a brand new 5010 pre + monoblocks, are these the speakers of [your] choice?
@@mr.wibble thank you. Yes, below £3,000 they would be 😊
