    Can't beat a Continental flat top. They were very common in propane forklifts all over the world through the 60's & 70's.
    One of the most reliable and bullet proof engines I've ever known.

    I love those SA-200s! Heard some disparage these machines, but with a simple set of tools and some lifting equipment you can strip them down and be rebuilt good as new. I have over 7K hours on mine and I need my exciter brush mounts replaced. May need to get into the hex barrel to replace the shunt coils, too. Haven't got that far yet. Anyways, it's cool stuff. Thanks for posting. Ethanol, it's sad stuff in the tropics, because it pulls in the moisture to the point of being beyond belief.

    I have a 1966 Lincoln SA200 and for a time I had a Big 40 here at the same time. I had them both running and welded with them switching back and forth to compare the arc. While the Big 40 had a good arc the Lincoln’s pure DC arc was smoother. The puddle seemed less agitated. What’s your opinion? Don’t get me wrong, both are fine but I noticed a subtle difference

    • @EEJester1586
      @EEJester1586  3 роки тому +3

      I would definitely agree with you. The big 40 runs low hydrogen rod like 7018 really well. But it stinks when it comes to a cellulose rod like a 6010 or a 6011. It’s like I don’t have a hard enough start to get it going good but that’s just my opinion. I don’t know what it is but most millers I’ve ever ran don’t have a real crisp start. Other than that they’re good machines.

    • @stevewarner8880
      @stevewarner8880 3 роки тому +3

      @@EEJester1586
      I’m sure it is the arc voltage difference. I just know from my own observation that my old red face Lincoln has a better arc in my opinion. The downside is the lack of auxiliary AC power. They were purpose built to weld not generate

    • @EEJester1586
      @EEJester1586  3 роки тому +2

      @@stevewarner8880 now that you say that I remember the Open current voltage was 85 on the big 40 and 98 on a SA200. You wouldn’t think that would make a difference but I guess it does. I’m sure also I needed to shake the cobwebs out of the old generator on the big 40.

      This will sound really dumb, but it was to get to the old filter with that truck. There’s no room between the headache, rack and welder. I ran 2 old machines before a 56 shirt hood and a 58 long hood and had to lift the machine off every time to change oil, well I should say have a friend help me lift the machine off to change the oil which was always a hassle. The newer diesels I run anymore have access doors and oil filters are toward the back of the truck when the nose of machine faces the driver side. And plus I’m just used to getting out of the truck grabbing the lead and starting the machine from the side I get out on. But thanks for the reply I just was wondering why a machine would be facing that way. Different folks different strokes I can dig it
