    Be very careful when eating out because while Malaysia is a muslim majority country, not everything everywhere is halal certified. Yes, halal certified. Not just halal because Malaysia is very strict with halal foodstuff which requires certification. You will find some places that put up a notice, something like 'No pork'. This doesnt mean they're halal. Even when they say they serve halal food, this doesnt necessarily mean they're halal certified. Maybe they source their chicken from muslim own slaughterhouse etc. But everything else is in a gray area. If they know you're not local i.e. tourist they will try to get you to eat there because you dont know any better and theres less chance of them getting reported to the authority.
    Also, while everywhere else in the world Indian vegetarian restaurant is a decent alternative, here there are also plenty of vegetarian restaurant particularly the banana leaf rice curry style but you normally wont see local muslim eating there. This is more so because there are plenty of halal eateries. Not trying to scare you into eating out. Just doesnt hurt to be cautious. Simple thing to do is just check to see, if theres any local muslim eating then you should be fine. Also check for the halal logo / certificate when you're in doubt.

    In the supermarket, the non halal food is in a separate section. The main section is all halal.

    • @morefoodplease
      @morefoodplease  Рік тому +5

      That's so cool! I did notice that.😊We don't have that in Canada. Depending on where you are, if there are a lot of Muslims in that area. The supermarkets will have some halal options with non halal stuff. There is usually a sign saying "HALAL". We usually have to go to a separate halal store to do Halal Grocery shopping.

    Cool video
    Been to Malaysia 5 times and on each occasion stopped in KL for 2-3 days before going to other parts of Malaysia. Obviously Malaysia being predominantly a Muslim country, you will definitely find Halal food everywhere. I didn't realise it is difficult to find Halal food in Canada - it is a lot easier in the UK where I'm from where you find Halal food and supermarkets in most towns and cities. I've travelled to SE Asia quite a few times and you will find Halal food in Thailand (especially Southern Thailand), Singapore and Indonesia but it was more difficult in the Philippines. I'm a Muslim BTW

    • @morefoodplease
      @morefoodplease  Рік тому +3

      Thank you!😊 So you are definitely well travelled! It's actually not super hard to find halal food in major cities in Canada. We live around Toronto so there is a huge Muslim population and the areas are very diverse. So lots of halal groceries plus restaurants. But if you travel a few hours out halal options are very limited. Looking forward to visiting Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and UK one day! Need to try fish and chips 😁

    • @brothersman524
      @brothersman524 Рік тому +5

      @@morefoodplease I am well travelled around 35 countries but not been to Canada. UK Fish and Chips can be amazing but can be pretty bad too - the best fish and chips are along the coastal towns. The city I live in the UK has probably twice as many Muslim population as Toronto with quarter of the size of Toronto.
      My advice for Thailand is that you can get Halal food in Phuket and most definitely Krabi/Ao Nang. Personally Krabi/Ao Nang is better especially for Halal options and day trips IMO. Bangkok has a few Halal markets with a masjid close by on each but the temples are good along the main Chao Praya River, which I would advise you to do a night cruise.
      As for Singapore, use the Metro and get to Bugis Metro Station (which is literally 2 stops from Marina Bay Sands) and from there is the Sultan Masjid and full of Halal restaurants there.
      For Indonesia, obviously Jakarta but I would kind of avoid Bali as it is far too touristy. Neighbouring Lombok is much better and cleaner, plus it is an island of 1000 mosques.
      Hope that helps

    Judging from the shadows, you were walking noon time. That is very2 hot and humid. For the sake of the little kids, maybe you can plan a little bit. Survey the metro, roads and plan the journey. Another thing, torrential rain can appear suddenly. So better walk with an umbrella to protect rain and shine.
