Love that body style. Mine is a 2004 2500 HD. That 6.0L engine is a beast. 300,000 mi and still lays patches for as long as your foots heavy.. lol life with a lift in your shop... ahhh yes... one of these days I'll have one too..
Nice. With my GMC 3500HD dually (7.4 Vortec), I opted for the Holley Flowmonster. It has two 3" inlets and two 3" outlets. It's a straight-through stainless steel Magnaflow-style muffler with two perforated pipes and packing. Sounds pretty darn good.
Finally someone that knows how to weld correctly. Your welds don’t look like worms gone wild. Just think the power company loves to see people welding. They re counting the number of turns your meter turns , ha, ha.
I just put the 40 series on my 02 1500 that I swapped to the 6.0 and 4l80e, sloppy stake 2 cam. Straight pipe was ridiculous. It's stock manifolds, stock piping which is not true duals. Y's up before the transmission. But it sounds great. I love it. Especially after running straight pipe for 2 weeks.... little drone at low rpm. But none at all while accelerating.
There is a certain rpm that makes a horrible drone. I still have this muffler and still hate the drone. In my younger years I probably would have loved all the noise.
Not bad at all! I get a little between 1 & 2000 rpm but I did read some where that there is a big difference between the 40 & 50 series. I do have mine dumping behind the rear wheel.
this is the same set up i ran on my 2000 2500 sierra for years sounds great but the cab noise is a little much. thinking about changing to a dual in dual out dynomax ultraflow and run it to a single pipe out the back.
My 04 2500 doesn't have cats. And I have dual 3 inch dynomax race bullets. In to the factory Y into a 4inch tip in the factory location. It's stupid loud. A little annoying at times, but really no drone
have 2 of these on my 98 k2500 with A 5.7 vortec that has a cold air intake. those two upgrades alone make a difference compared to the stock 5.7s ive driven
Factory probably saved $3.50 (tree fitty) per truck by going back to single pipe from the muffler back. A very experienced race engine builder told me that for gas engines...unless you are regularly seeing RPMs above 5000K, you just don't need more than 2.5 in pipe, not even on a turbo engine. A truck particularly needs low end torque, not high rev capability. Does not apply to Diesels. What you did here was just right.
here is my two cents if people complaint about drone while cruising then don't change the factory set up,personally i go with flowmaster over any other exhaust system i'm a fan boy i guess?on my page i have exhaust clips of a dakota i use to own with two separate systems in the end it ended up with the chambered muffler similar to flowmaster but not as pricey,i also had a 77 Ford flat bed with a 400 engine cammed and i ran a full flowmaster exhaust although i didn't record any clips..
A set of magnaflow turbos with some summit racing resonators got me a 10Db drop on my dual 3" system. Very noticeable, but still more drone than I like living in the hills like I do.
Probably to late to tell you but always add atleast 2 to 3 foot of pipe behind a Flowmaster to give it some tone. If you don't it just sounds like a dump truck
add longer tips or throw in more piping it will take the drone away I put same muffler on my Tahoe and it was super annoying when doing 100kph, I added like a foot more of piping and it went away
On the factory muffler the drivers side exit pipe is a dumby pipe, it goes back into the muffler tuning chamber. It basically does nothing. So it only has 1 exit pipe functioning.
So you like the flowmaster muffler on a daily driven truck? Do you think.its to loud or its ok? I wanna get the 40 series on my 2016 Silverado 6.0 liter. I have the 50 series now. Just wanna go a little bit louder
These trucks are known for bad drone. I had some glasspack style mufflers on a 6.0 with full tailpipe and it would rattle the rear window when I got on it. I think the muffler case is to small.
That may help some but the whole muffler is vibrating. These trucks are known for that. Also this generation has cab vents on the back of the cab right in front of the bed.
Sounds good but bet if you change the weed burners for longer tubes it would sound even better! I wouldn't mind the drone bet it sounds like a monster! So they don't have 3" inlets available? I gotta get one for my 6.0!!! Cheers!
The drone is pretty bad in overdrive so I probably won't be keeping this muffler. It sounds awesome just the drone is bad. Might try a few different things to see if I can stop it. They do sell dual 3" in but then it only has the single 3.5" out. This muffler should out flow any single 3.5" out muffler.
Great video but, your information on pipe size and flow is incorrect. I dont have cfm numbers but I do have gallon per minute. 3.5" pipe will flow 160gpm where as 2.5 will flow 65gpm X2 for duals. Which makes 130gpm. All data aside its not gonna make a performance difference on a stock 6.0!
I don't know. What is a gallon of air? Air and water are very different so why would they flow the same? I am not saying you are wrong or right. They just don't seem comparable. Just looking at the size of two 2.5" pipe next to a 3.5" seems like they would flow similar.
Hello, I just watched your posted video of Flowmaster muffler install and after watching it made me think about exhaust fumes coming into the cab. So, in looking at the muffler i noticed you did a turndown stile (no tailpipe) and i know you mentioned you may change it later but if I were to do that type of style (turndowns/grass burners) will fumes likely be coming into the cab of the truck or is it ok? so im wondering when i do my muffler replacement if i want to do turndowns or add tail pipe. So does it, are fumes likely to come into cab with turndowns at end of muffle undernieth cab? I know that some folks do that style and ive always wondered uf fumes bother them at all. I have same truck. Thank you
It's best to run tailpipes out the back or sides to get the exhaust gases away from the truck. I only did this to see how I liked the sound. With the wind blowing different ways exhaust gases could get into your cab. I haven't really noticed any fumes in my truck but I can't really recommend turn downs under your truck.
My brother has a 2003 crew cab short bed 2500 with the 6 liter and he ran a thrush muffler to a 4 inch tail pipe and it sounds amazing. It has a mild volume and a great time with very low drone in the cab. Just an idea if you decide to change it up.
You missed a golden opportunity to rev it straight pipe before the install! Sounds good, though. At what RPM is the interior resonance? I have horrible resonance at 3000RPM with dual 3" and even with 2 mufflers and 2 resonators. I'll be doing some sound deadening and insulation when I re do the rear carpet. Maybe that'll kill the issue for me? We'll see....soon as the remodel of my house is done.
My drone is horrible at 1600-1800. That is right were it sits at 55mph in overdrive. Probably not going to keep the muffler because of that. When you rev it up and hard acceleration it sounds awesome with little to no drone.
Yeah, that's a low RPM to have drone at. My current set up is only bad when I'm loading the engine hard like merging onto the interstate or climbing hills, still enough to bug the piss outa me. I did a before and after with a simple iPhone Db meter app and I lost 10Db between my old and new setup. Like I said, I'm done toying with the exhaust. There really is zero insulation or deadening under the rear carpet of my Suburban where the mufflers sit. That's what I'll hit next.
@@mossman381 I'm not say one 3" is better than two 2.5" pipes, what I'm saying is a muffler with dual 3" in and out would flow be better than restricting them down to 2.5". If your doing it to sound good it's fine, but when trying to make power, reducing exhaust size is a no no.

It sounds great. The reason these trucks drone so bad is the cab vents are on the back of the cab. The worst place for a performance muffler install. You can run straight pipes with no drone because there is no muffler under the truck to make the terrible noise.
mossman381 I've had straight pipes, Flowmaster and Magnaflows and they all drone to a certain degree just because they add extra volume. Dumping the pipes under the cab will increase drone compared to running the gases out behind the truck. It sounds fine but tailpipes help resonate the sound with flowmaster for a fuller and richer tone and it looks better imo.
I have had straight pipes and I didn't have any drone. I would have gone that route again but they are loud. I have had many exhaust systems on these trucks. I had glasspack type mufflers on a 2002 extended cab once and it would rattle the back window. The cab vents are the problem not the mufflers. I have considered moving the cab vents.
I had some off brand glasspacks before and will never do that again with this body style. The 88-98 and 73-87 trucks handle mufflers better because the cab vents are in the doors. I have not had an x pipe yet but will probably be changing this muffler setup to straight pipes with an x pipe.
Sounds like a giant farting into a coffee can. Flowmaster just doesn't do it for me on stock motors. I like the way they sound at idle. Then anything over 50 percent throttle just sounds trashed.. Am I crazy? Or do others feel the same. Flowmaster is always so hit and miss.

mossman381 I've had straight pipes, Flowmaster and Magnaflows and they all drone to a certain degree just because they add extra volume.
I have considered moving the cab vents.
mossman381 have you ever had 8” glasspacks or muffler delete with just an X pipe?
I had some off brand glasspacks before and will never do that again with this body style. The 88-98 and 73-87 trucks handle mufflers better because the cab vents are in the doors. I have not had an x pipe yet but will probably be changing this muffler setup to straight pipes with an x pipe.
Ask the shock what it thinks lol
Diesel should have come with 4" the engine breathe better
It's not a diesel.
ummm you get sill rust fix it bad
Sounds mean
Imop, sounds like crap.
That being said I think borla and Chevy go together well... The simpler setup usually sounds the best too.
I like my Flowmaster. Hate the drone on this one.
Quiet
It sounds quiet in the video but it has a good sound to it. It's not straight piped loud. I am still running this setup and still hate the drone in the cab.
Aaaaaaaaand that's why people put glass packs on trucks instead of this pansy crap
A super 40 is pansy crap???? I have had a glasspack type muffler on these 6.0 engines and it will vibrate the rear window and make your ears bleed after a few miles. This muffler sounds great but has a bad drone at certain rpm. In my younger years I wouldn't mind but now I don't want to hear the drone anymore.
Cut off the cat and it will sound alot better
The smaller the exhaust the more resturfull it will be not more power
lift is a bit too high
Truck is too high....looks tippy, like a ballerina
Truck is pretty high with the 6" lift and 35" tires.
