Your idea of how to do the rivalry shows was awesome, Cyndi. A rivalry like UNC/Duke to kick it off is a pretty good move, and it would make sense if all five shows were big-time college rivalries, schools that people know. Here's what I'd schedule for the week:
    Monday: UNC/Duke
    Tuesday: Cal/Stanford
    Wednesday: USC/UCLA
    Thursday: Alabama/Auburn
    Friday: Ohio State/Michigan

      And for another week:
      Monday: Georgia/USC (South Carolina)
      Tuesday: Washington/Oregon
      Wednesday: SMU/Texas A&M
      Thursday: Columbia/Princeton
      Friday: Harvard/Yale

Cyndi. PITCH THAT IDEA TO CBS! I LIKE THAT IDEA VERY MUCH! Sure, they're probably gonna turn you down, but it's worth a shot.

On your Rule #2: That reminds me of the Armed Forces TPIR shows: Making sure there's only ONE representative of each branch. Whichever branch wins, the void is replaced by someone from said branch.

I love your idea for how to produce this. You could even have a sort of tournament within the schools. Have four two-school rivalries and then have some process for choosing four schools who get to participate on a Friday show. (No returning players, mind you, just more players from the schools in question.) My idea:
    1) Any school that wins the best-of-6 IUFB's and also produces a showcase winner gets an automatic berth.
    2) Any remaining slots will be filled by the schools with the highest total winnings on their show. (In the extreme, one school could win only 2 IUFB's but win two cars and have a $25,000 winner in the showdown.)
Also, if you don't have something like this planned for day 5, I wouldn't bother with tie-breaker provisions on the scholarship fund. Just say that in the event of a tie, they each get half the prize. (Or be generous and award duplicate prizes.)

I kinda like how they vowed how to do this format, but i think the next year 2015-16 was worse cause they had Lillian Garcia represent South Carolina, and she was a veteran WWE ring announcer.. but i guess they thought about alumni

let me guess when this will happen, Thanksgiving week, the same week when the Iron Bowl (Alabama vs Auburn) and Michigan vs Ohio State will be played that Saturday.

Completely agree! TPIR has done a lot of dumb gimmicks during the Mike Richards era. This one was the dumbest of them all! And we're going to have a WEEK of this crap? EDIT: Well, not a week. But a repeat of this stupid gimmick is scheduled for today. Has a game show ever won the Patrick Wayne Award for 2 years in a row?

Clifford Shafran I wouldn't put it past them. They're doing it AGAIN right now!

Well, they obviously don't care about the old school Price fans. The airing of this show was delayed a week because of the London terrorist attack, with a trip to London given away in Double Prices.

You obviously aren’t a big sports fan. Rivalries are what make sports so much more fun. Seeing your team crush your long time rivals make it all worthwhile so it kinda makes sense. They tried to think out of the box for this one.

Great induction as usual! Now I'm convinced that it's the poorly-executed gimmick shows (if not Drew Carey's hosting or the inferior production) that are making me darn near avoid the show nowadays. Anyhoo, can't wait for your Million Dollar Word Game induction; and get well soon, Jim Williams!

I'll tell you why it won by a landslide: Today's TPIR is way too gimmicky with silly themed episodes like this one, and a lot of things that changed since Bob & Dob left. I've stopped watching since 2007 and this is exactly why.

Even though TPiR has gotten way too gimmicky for my tastes (I can tolerate Drew Carey hosting the show, although he's not my favorite game show host of all time, which is the late Peter Tomarken of Press Your Luck fame), the College Rivals episodes could be done a lot better with a format like this:
    - The format is essentially two half-hour shows within an hour show, with the showcase showdown replacing the showcase from the old half-hour format, plus a showcase between the showcase showdown winners
    - The first part of the show, with three IUFBs and three pricing games, is played by students and alumni from one of the two schools
    - After the third IUFB and pricing game, the three contestants still in Contestants' Row are eliminated from competition
    - Before the fourth IUFB, four new contestants, who are students and alumni from the second of the two schools, are called to Contestants' Row
    - After the sixth pricing game, the three contestants still in Contestants' Row are eliminated from competition
    - Showcase showdowns are held after the third and sixth pricing games, and the winner of each showdown advances to the Showcase
    - The school where the showcase winner attends or graduated from gets a large amount of cash to spend on improvements to classrooms and other on-campus academic facilities
This would make such an episode of TPiR basically the game show version of, for example, golf's Ryder Cup. In fact, a TPiR/Family Feud mashup episode could use a format similar to the one I described above, with some tweaks (such as families replacing college students/alumni, and the cash bonus to the winning school being replaced to the cash bonus to the winning family).

Personally, I had no problems with the College Rivals special... although I can understand how the one-bid format tweak would make the purists apoplectic.
As for "Million Dollar Word Game"... I believe that is only the second game show ever in which I completely zoned out before the first commercial. It makes "Shoppers Casino" look watchable, which I didn't think was even possible.

I don't like a lot of the specials Price Is Right has been doing since Drew has taken over. Granted, I do like the major updates to the set since the Barker era just to make it different, but some of these special episodes are just useless. I remember watching ones for couples (Valentines Day ones in general) they were always calling young couples, they weren't calling any of the senior couples. I would like to see some more primetime episodes this summer. Price is Right is 45 years now, why isn't there an anniversary episode planed yet or have Bob do a full episode. Another idea and people can dislike me for this, why not have hosts from other countries do a day of hosting and call it International Week. I would love to see how Larry from Aussie Price Is Right can handle our show.
