Thanks to John Leguizamo and The Daily Show for a little Latino Love . We are stereotyped in ways that makes it difficult to earn respect in this country. As a Mexican in the United States earning a living you are expected to work long hours for little pay mechanically and be grateful for the opportunity; Because you know, "Mexicans are lazy" right? . Growing up poor & Latino Ive experienced it 1st hand. So immigrants are treated with almost no respect because of the language barrier in that regard. Flip side of that coin is the "criminal" aka "Bad Hombre" which is to be punished harshly for small offenses as to correct the "savage" behavior. Latinos are then not considered a contribution to U.S. society. Rather a problem via immigration or crime.

It's infuriating. Growing up in Texas, it was acknowledged that many industries only existed because of the Mexican workforce. We had a required year of Spanish, with the understanding that it's important to be able to communicate with your neighbors and coworkers. It was also understood that the history is a difficult one, and, as the saying goes, for many "the border crossed them." A lot has changed in 40 years, and not for the better.

I grew up in California. I can honestly say that I have never in my life ever heard anyone say or imply that Mexican people are lazy. I've literally only ever heard that Mexican people are hard working and family people. But its kind of funny that you are whining about thinking you are being unfairly stereotyped. Your whole post is a big negative stereotype of what you perceive all American society to feel about Mexicans and you are very wrong. People probably just don't like you. Maybe if you spend less time crying on social media and spend more time getting training and getting rid of that huge chip on your shoulder things in America will start working out better for you. Buena Suerte

John L would be a brilliant new host, stepping into the social activism/change-maker shoes that Jon Stewart left to be filled. He's such a smart but humble guy... not that Trevor wasn't as well, and I'm grateful for how he's spoken out about his life, depression and ADHD too--but I see JL really highlighting injustice the way JS was doing and continues to do with his activism... we need to see A LOT MORE of John Leguizamo and the issues around POC in this country. Said by a Spanish-speaking, Latinx-loving white girl (love all BIPOC, too, just have a particular love for Spanish-speaking people of the Americas due to studying and immersing myself in the language and culture and getting to know and love so many of them)

The deportations have to stop! Ripping families apart and children from their parents is not the answer! All it does is destroy many lives and cause emotional trauma!

@@mikerod9555 family should be kept together at all costs. So if a deportation is to happen it needs to be the whole family together and since children who were born in this country are citizens then the rest of the family needs to become citizens so that the family stays together here in the United States. They are already here and they already have a life made here so why not concentrate on stopping future immigrants from entering illegally and leave the ones that are already here alone?

@@ruthcavanagh1043 they are stopping future immigrants from entering by deporting them now lol. Any non citizen can naturalize. It wouldn’t be fair to handout citizenships for irrational and irresponsible parenting tho ✌️ It took my Tia 15 years to become a naturalized citizen and she’s a rich genius with multiple degrees from a prestigious family lol 🍻

@ruthcavanagh1043 so why should illegal immigrants be rewarded while legal immigrants be punished for doing the right thing.

I I get what she's saying but nowadays people just throw around words like apertheid way too casually nowadays. Was a law, state sanctioned and all to 1) Separate the natives from the white folk, 2) To oppress the natives legally

I know, it made me uncomfortable as a South African. Knowing the awful history. people think apartheid was just separation but it was so much more than that. i dont know why people of other groups are trying to use it especially in pop culture? its just downplaying apartheid for what it was. you would never hear someone say cultural holocaust
