Honestly, KEXP brings a very different vibe to a lot of these more energetic bands' performances. Reminds me of Viet Cong/Preoccupations set. So much more tense. Also, Colossus's slower tempo here is interesting to see.

I might prefer the mixing in the kexp vids more but I think it probably takes more skill to mix those tiny desk performances. No idea how they do what they do with the acoustics in that room

There's not a single bit of anger, self loathing or hate to be found in this band. And it is something truely inspirating.

Commenting a lil late, but is just what we need rn, punk has always been a whole movement seeking for justice, peace and love. Although it was with totally angry and heavy lyrics before, times are different now, and these guys are talking about the love, liberty and socially accepted communities, seeking for that justice, peace and love. Punk is not dead people... and it will never be!

If it wasn’t for his incredibly steady drumming, they wouldn’t be as good. It’s the rhythmic marriage between the lyrics and drumming that make the idles so good.

They are actually writing songs for our generation and our time. The lyrics are so empowering against all of the shit we're going through. We've been misplacing anger in all the wrong places and IDLES seem to be directing it towards the right places. Something I can and will get behind.

When the world was about deception and pretend morality punk was about anger. Now that the world (governments) are about anger and hate punk is about love and acceptance. I can get down with that.

It's more so that punk grew to express much more than just contempt and frustration into much more varied and nuanced ideas. Which is a perfectly natural way for music to progress. Ever notice how easy it is for a punk band to seem one dimensionall whenthe one thing they're talking about is being angry at an authority figure? Punk was never just about being anti-government, it was about being raw and unfiltered and honest. That's why Idles works.

Been a heavy metal guy for 25+ years and there is NOTHING in the metal scene as exciting or real as Idles. Fuck I love these lads.

They personally reject the punk label. There's some punk elements for sure, but to label them as a "punk" band I think is incorrect.

I was lucky enough to to catch them at ACL pre-pandemic… and lemme tell ya. They bring it so much we harder IRL. Joe was bleeding from ponding his chest and Mark spent a whole song in the pit (with his guitar)
As a 53 year old fart who sometimes thinks I've seen and heard it all, it's good that a band like IDLES come along every so often to kick me in the brain. Fuck, these guys are real...Unreal.

So true! can't think of a kexp that I wasn't blown away by the artist+techs(mad props)+presentors(they might be overlooked but they bring in such good energy too- yes cheryl is my favourite though:). All these together make to such a unique capture.
After watching this about a gazillion times, my favorite part is at 24:09 when the drummer is going at it so hard that he loses his glasses and grins. Pure joy.
I just came down in comments to see if I was the only who felt elated seeing the drummer going at it with loosing his glasses :)
I saw them last night and he is SO fun to watch. Ear to ear smile on him most of the set.

I came across this video thanks to a friend years ago while I was battling depression. I was stuck in a really dark place and the meds weren’t helping. I felt like I was drowning and every day was one crippling panic attack after another. I still remember watching this at my desk at work and tears running down my face. The name of the album, the inspiration behind it, hearing the ‘we are not alone’, the energy, and the lyrics got me good. It made me feel less broken.

Idles was one of the best concerts i've ever seen. Playing to a crowd of 500 with the stage prescence to play to 50k. Amazing

I loved the interview, so great to see how the album's naivitee and sincerity is not due to lack of reflection but quite the opposite. Incredibly refreshing to see something so far removed from irony and sarcasm

I moved from Britain to Seattle last year and first heard IDLES on KEXP so I just wanna say THANK YOU KEXP for keeping me connected to amazing British bands and making me feel at home here whenever i turn on the radio.
I'm 53 yrs old n lived through some fantastic music but i've never come across a band that has struck a chord with me so visceral than the the Ideles
I grew up with Van Halen......and ac dc....etc.I die and am reborn... peacefully with IDLES.........UNREAL......who knew.....
This made me LAUGH over and over from how fun these songs are. Just so so good, holy hell.

For me, seeing these songs played live has opened a door into another understanding of how good this band is. Wow.
Amazing that JT says he sees the best music coming from the US (which I'm not necessarily going to challenge) but he is the type of British artist that brings a frank and fearless honesty and directness that is utterly without pretense. This is just stunning, compelling art. Look at what Punk's become!

Last show sucked, not because of the band but the crowd being amazingly passive. mad fucking props to the cameramen who filmed this chaos and avoided getting hit by wildly swinging guitars and flailing arms
We saw them the same day they filmed this. After filming this they drove up to Vancouver and did one of the best gigs ive ever seen. So much energy, and utterly captivating. Every song had the crown bouncing, which is saying something for a Vancouver crowd. Before the gig we bumped into Joe ( in Pats Pub on the Downtown Eastside ), who was having a sneaky pint with his Canadian family. He happily sat and chatted to my wife and i. What an absolute guy, what an absolute band. Tickets have been bought for Seattle next year!!! LONG LIVE IDLES.

There's just something inspiring about this. Its some of the only raw humanity we see in music. Every song they have takes you right to a live performance. It's just the sounds of real sweat and spit, clenched teeth. Its impossible not to connect to it on the deepest level
