Nostalgic melancholy in particular.
this image of Maria combined with this music made me realise something about Maria, not only is Maria more than a monster, she's an almost fully functional human being who ALMOST has her own thoughts and feelings outside of thinking about James. Just thinking about this makes me realise how truly fucked up Maria's existence is, she literally just exists to fulfil James fantasy of his perfect wife (we know this already of course) but what nobody seems to consider is how Maria is obviously traumatised or disturbed by this idea, imagine only existing thanks to somebodies sexually frustrated wish, imagine desperately trying to be your own person while struggling against how you were made to think and how you solely exist to cater to a man who probably doesn't even really WANT to be with you. the amount of pain you'd go through just knowing all of this along with being constantly killed by the very personification of guilt relating to the man whose wish you were born from as well as being resurrected by the only town and place you've ever known. honestly just realising this about Maria makes her a truly tragic character in my opinion (only possibly being rivaled by Angela and Eddie's trauma)
Not so sure about eddie but how about a little sympathy for James? It becomes painfully clear by the end that James faced a fate some would argue is worth than death. After all, she's a product of the unresolved pain he experienced. Without James' trauma, there is no Maria in the first place.
Lisa Garland has some of this struggle too, but her snap was a lot more darker and painful i think. She realized she was one of them and suddently turned visually and psychologically disturbed, living only to take revenge on Kauffman...

@@matthewschrier6260 I think there's a good reason for them remaining independently exclusive. Silent Hill is a very psychological series. If psycho analysis yields anything about James' personal hell, it's that it has everything to do with how he relates to himself and the world around him. This is why I don't view him as a monsterously as many people have; he did the best he could for literal years facing an impossibly bleak situation.
More to the point, Laura and Maria both represent facets of his own personality, not unlike how pyramid head and the other monsters relate to his internal conflict.
The games are heavily inspired by Jungian psychology and, as such, I'd argue that Laura/Maria represent James' anima, given their fluid and ambivalent nature (physically and emotionally) and are logistically always separated and at odds with one another (James is forced to abandon Maria to find Laura more than once and Maria is not a fan of this). It's as if Laura is a more spiritually sound version of what Maria is to James.
At first I felt the same way but the more one learns about Maria and her overall purpose, it's probably best to leave that shit behind and come to terms with reality.

Maria only exists because of the sexual frustration James had with Mary. Makes you wonder what Maria was thinking about when she woke up, who she really is. She's a person with a conscious but not real, only an illusion conjured by the mysteries of Silent Hill. (Spoilers) When she gets stabbed by pyramid head in the back I believe she actually died there and the other Maria's you see are not the real one. It would make sense especially with the dialogue later with her. Each character is done so well in this game, definitely my all time favorite piece of entertainment this world has to offer.
She’s evil before that too. She mocks Mary and insists that you hate your wife and gets mad at you for not saving her and leaving her alone when you don’t even know who she is. She’s manipulative and controlling and is there representing James’ sexual frustration. She never had good intentions.

Hey, thanks Man! I try to grab as much soundtrack action as possible from these because these are Grammy worthy - seriously! Did Akira Yamaoka get any kid of awards for these? Without his input, these first 4 would never have become the classics they are today! I STILL like to go back to the original '99 PS1 game from time to time and it still be invokes that atmosphere that you're glad is in 'there' while you're out 'here'. And, you know - whether it's Harry, James, Heather or Henry, it's just you and him. Even Travis is cool and the poor guy catches all kinds of grief from so called fans. People ALWAYS forget that 'Origins' was NOT meant for a console. The developers had to work with the program they had. I, personally liked that one because, not only did it retain the feel but it opened areas on the previous maps that were now accessible. At that time, I couldn't care less - I just wanted more of that town, more back story and more exploration. I didn't care about the combat. I expected flaws because it was made for handheld. Everyone barks from the comfort of a gamertag but, lemme see YOU improve on it! Thanks again. Curious as to the visions that will accompany the dreams while this flows through.

Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been a huge fan of Silent Hill since it first came out. And thankfully this game/experience helped me get through so many predicaments in my life. Hearing this lovely piece, is like hearing Akira Yamaoka’s work again. It’s peaceful and very beautiful. Job well done! Hopefully in the future you can do more of these from every ‘Silent Hill’ game. They will never make another story, game, movie - nothing will ever compare to these games, Silent Hill 1 through 3 in particular. It’s beyond mere entertainment, beyond a game.. The Cosmos is fickle, almost with a sense of humor. It teaches lessons to those who are willing to find and learn them.. But to what end? I would say this game definitely changed or influenced our psyche - this game was psychological to it’s core.. My point is, this game, this “message” - was intended for *you* , us , and whatever lies in store in the future for those influenced by these stories the Cosmos shares with us..
As I sit here and listen to this it makes me wonder if these songs will be OUR “EVERYWHERE TO THE END OF THE TIME” type music, where it will sound like it’s original incarnate, but we will hear it like this and a little bit more off when we are much much older and seem to start forgetting?? It also has me thinking if everyone in this comment section that has commented is still alive here in our world now, or if their lives are still the same as it was when they committed or changed a little bit, or drastically. Will I still be here at 40 years old in just 3 years or not?? So many thoughts, yet time just escapes me and everyone else here.

in 2004 I was 16.
My room had Moonlight window on roof, and large window facing the forest.
Sunshowers were common when I lived in my room, and when it rained, the smell of Petrichor, Dirt, Wild Animal, and my own mixed Oud perfume would plume through my window.

My desk was a stained Ashwood, with brushed nickel accents, and there were warm Orange stains on the top of desk from when I tried to mix Turmeric powder in a bottle of Sandalwood Oil. The smell fused, but there was always an Orange residue whenever I applied the liquid from its Cobalt Blue bottle.
The glow of light coming in through my window, and down from my moonlight usually crossed, and met, right on my desk. On days Bright, and Wet enough, it would look like the light resting on my desk couldn't take it anymore, and started to pool in the shape of the stains on my desk, from off the bars of light.
I love this it helps me feel better :)

Music to read some deep existential philosophy to. One thing I’ve always struggled to understand is how music like this evokes emotions in humans, we didn’t evolve with this and unless this type of sound is some sort of repressed memory from our childhood that made us feel the same way, then how on earth can music be explained to evoke non specific feelings of sorrow, loss and nostalgia, almost abstract concepts.
There's a saying, music is what emotions sound like. Sounds are vibrations of air molecules that get converted into electrical signals by the brain.
Perhaps emotions our just vibrations of the soul through the sea of ether.
It's all energy, we are a part of everything in the universe and I think music is a reflection of that energy and that as humans we I 5340435 things differently and link it to our own experiences
