Great video Darren, very cool comparison and insightful, the difference is huge apart from the extra energy you need to move the bike. Looking forward to the next video. Good work mate!
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland That is silly (people saying you can't keep fit on an e-bike). Yeah, you could theoretically leave it on Turbo and only do 10km on a flat street circuit. But, there is no fun in that. It's not why you buy a mountain bike. It's when you hit the trails, climb mountains and go down them, when your heart starts pumping (a lot), even with the motor. The motor just helps you get back up the hills faster, so it's so much more fun to do. I'm definitely not in the best shape. I used to ride mtb about 8 years ago. I lost interest, because of the hill climbing. I was never good at it and couldn't get my fitness good enough to enjoy the climbs. Now, the eMTB my son just got and I am using temporarily has got me excited to ride again. So much fun. And for sure I can work on my fitness. In fact, I think the eMTB allows for getting fit better faster, because I know I'll want to ride more and I can control the level of support the motor gives me. Start off with little support, hard climbs go more, but only as needed. If the heart is pumping too much, add power, change gears and relax. Then go less again or higher gear, once recovered. Awesome...... In fact, nobody makes note of this advantage e-bikes have in all the videos I've seen (and I've looked at a lot of them while shopping for my new bike).
I couldn't agree more. My ebike just allows me to go further and ride more trails. You can definitely still put in the same effort as with a normal bike, you just get more fun in return. Last year, I prepared for the season by riding every day for 30 days and about half of those rides were with the ebike. Without the flexibility to get further afield and ride a greater variety of trails, I would never have completed the challenge and would never have see such a massive improvement in my fitness levels.
Good video!! For me the conclusion of the test is that if you run out of battery your not dead as if you had a fault, you can still get back home at a different pace, so not a big issue.
Nice work mate... Fun way to present the content as well. Enjoyed that. I think though that most people would just pedal home when the battery died and not truck on with the tour... Hahaha...
Thanks, I think I'll probably run that loop with my acoustic bike as well, so that at the end I can compare all 3 e-bikes I'm testing as well as my acoustic bike.
Haha how cool is that?! Didn‘t expect you are going to do that to yourself 😂 Maybe to bring some clarification, the tour I was talking about was 300 meters of climbing but stretched out to a distance of 40km, so pretty flat. We were over the 25km/h limit a lot, but on Stoffel-like hills I have definitely used tour mode. However, awesome video and really nice how you respond to your community! 👏 Btw, you passed me on the way up to Bachtel last Sunday 😉
Up until now, I just thought you had superhuman fitness 🤣🤣🤣! You're right though, on the flat, especially tarmac surfaces, it's easy to sit at or above the 25km/h limit of these bikes once you get them rolling. Conditions on the Bachtel were awesome last Sunday - the Haibike definitely got a thorough test! Next time you see me, make sure to say hello.
My fitness level is average at best 🥵 I wonder if you are going to experience some differences from the other e-bikes. Have you been all the way to the top on Sunday? I only made it to the middle section this time. Last few times the upper part was nothing but a mudfest and I didn’t want to do more damage to the trail. Nice to hear that conditions are improving 🤩
The conditions at the top were perfect - no mud at all. As a result, we did 4 full laps on Sunday. I've already noticed some significant differences between the Focus and the Haibike, so stay tuned to hear all about them!!
You are absolutely right. There is clearly no way an analogue bike can out climb an e-bike, but if you absolutely have to ride one without the motor, it's good to know that it is possible.
Hi Olly. Thanks for the support. The best advice I can give you is try and get test rides of the bikes you are interested. If that's not possible, at least make sure you have test ridden the motor, since they all have quite different characteristics.
I tried this with a trek powerfly (hardtail) and it was like riding with 2 flat tyres absolutely awful it was. I do like the focus jam think it's the best looker out of the 3, great video enjoyed it 👍
Thank you!! The everything that could go wrong has gone wrong test. Remind not to do that one! The Jam2 is indeed a cracking bike. Watch out for another video about this bike in the coming weeks!
Great video Darren, very cool comparison and insightful,
the difference is huge apart from the extra energy you need to move the bike.
Looking forward to the next video. Good work mate!
Thanks man. I was actually quite surprised I got to the top of the hill! The motor disengagement on the Bosch motor is very impressive.
Like always, meaningfull video! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for the support. It’s always great to hear that other people like what I do.
Really good video Darren, content keeps on getting better and better!
Thank you. I’m really looking forward to this season. Lots of ideas!!!
That dear sir was a cracking video, informative, funny and factual ⚡
Loved it, well put together 👍🏼
Thanks mate. Always nice to get such positive feedback. Nice to know my pain wasn’t for nothing 😜
I gave this a like for the effort. Good job!😁
Oh, I'm also just about to pull the trigger and buy a Focus Jam2 6.9.
Thank you 🙏 And some people say that you can’t keep fit on an e-bike!
Good choice, I really liked this bike!

Thanks David. I agree. Pedalling without the motor is not pleasant, but providing your fitness is OK, it's not the end of the world.
Nice work mate... Fun way to present the content as well. Enjoyed that.

Thanks mate. I agree. Providing pedaling home is an option!
A better test would be a ebike without motor compared to a normal bike . Good video by the way .
Thanks, I think I'll probably run that loop with my acoustic bike as well, so that at the end I can compare all 3 e-bikes I'm testing as well as my acoustic bike.
I ride my jam2 6.8 with the motor off on downhills or very flat terrain to help increase battery range on long rides.
I sometimes do the same. It’s a great way of getting every last kilometer of range out of the battery.
That was great !
Thank you. It's always good to know whether these things are possible if the worst comes to the worst.
Great vid! The next step is comparing an ebike switched off with an acoustic bike (bio bike/whatever).
Glad it's you doing the testing, not me :-p
Thanks for the suggestion. I wish I had a guinea pig to do the riding though and I could just film their suffering!!!
Great video. Looked nearly as painful as lifting my wild fs over about a dozen locked farmers gates 🏴🇬🇧
Thanks dude. I know what you mean. I too think I'd prefer to pedal uphill than lift it over so many gates.
The things you do to entertain us 😂
Great video as per usual 👍
Thanks man. At least someone was entertained. Not sure the same can be said for my "twin brother"!!!
Well when mine run out all together an battery switched of I couldn’t ride it at all it just would move
What type of motor do you have? That’s something I have never seen in any ebike I’ve ridden.

On flat ebike is actually slower than "analog" - it's heavier and has additional motor resistance. Where e bikes shine is the climb

Nice one Dazza, now that's suffering for science.
Suffering for the sins of e-bikers all over the world! 🤣🤣🤣
Great video i been having a emtb soon any tips before getting it darren

You told them to suggest .... and they did 😂😂😂
We live and learn!!!

On flat I often ride my jam2 over 25km/h so motor is off anyway and it's not that bad really.
