I really enjoy the concept of this recipe. One suggestion, shred your king oysters, add your seasoning, cover and let sit for an hour, sauté it and the roast. It is a few extra steps but TRUST me it will make a huge difference in taste and texture
Yes….I actually let teh mushroom marinate overnight.. suggestion buttermilk (vegan of course), and your spices… is on point as swell. But yes it makes the difference

So I will definitely be trying this recipe it looks amazing and I'm so happy that you had your Jamaican friends there to put their input in, so I'm definitely trying the recipe. We are not vegans and there is a market we get our meat from called a Halal Market, the word Halal means religiously allowed, but me personally, I am leaning towards more vegan options 😄🌟🥰🤲🏾🙏🏽
Yes my Jamaican friends had to be there to tell the people what’s what. When it comes to this iconic dish, I couldn’t just rely on me alone. I used to eat halal before I went plant based.
OMG... that look delicious and oxtails. They have always been my favorite Jamaican dish. I have been vegetarian since 2007 and still miss the taste... now you have totally changed the game! I can't wait to give it a try. TFS Be Blessed
Great recipe and presentation. I tried it and some of the "voxtails" fell apart while simmering in the pot. This may be because I browned the "voxtails" in carmellized brown sugar like I do with my traditional oxtails. Despite the break down of some of them, they were still very tasty! I think the combination of ingredients in this recipe provides great taste and texture. Thanks for your great presentation.
Thanks for sharing that, I’m so glad you made them! I wonder if the sugar causes a chemical reaction that contributes to them breaking. Or it could be the wrapping technique? The tighter the better. Anyhoo, enjoy 😊
Interesting. I have not eaten oxtail for many years now. The last time I was in a Jamaican restaurant I was not eating meat, that was around 4 years ago. I can't eat mushrooms(I'm allergic), but I think my other option would be jackfruit? What do you think(anyone)? I would call it oxtail inspired.
Hey welcome to the channel. No, I don’t take any supplements at the moment because my body hasn’t given me any indicator that it’s deficient. I think eating a wide range of whole natural foods plant based ingredients helps because when one eats the variety of God’s Garden you generally receive all the nutrients you need. The best way to determine is to have blood work done to find out if you are deficient in anything and base your supplement regimen (if any) on that.
I eat 80 percent plant based and 20 percent pescatarian (no egg or dairy) and I never had the chance of trying oxtails. I couldn't justify purchasing it at the price per pound for the amount you get. I use to use a soup bone steak with the oxtail gravy and now it looks like I may be able to use that same gravy on these. I have to give this a try.
Yep the price of things has changed drastically, back in the day the butchers in the U.S. used to give them away because they didn't eat them. All the Caribbean immigrants were on the come up with oxtails lol. But now, it's definitely pricier. Beyond the financial costs, there are real human and planetary costs (as I'm sure you're aware) and these I can't pay. Thus this recipe does sooooo wonderfully as a substitute. Enjoy it with the gravy and let me know how it works for you! Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks! Yep I mention the exact ingredients for the noxtail in the video. As for the sauce I don’t mention them, I just make up my own thing. The entire recipe for noxtail and sauce is linked in the description. The cookbook can be found at the bottom of the description
Hey David, I wish I could tell you. It was just a vibe....one of the moments where I let my tastebuds and ancestors do the talking and I just listened with a lil bit of this and lil bit of that. Sorry hun! That's typically how I flow in the kitchen though
@@ShelleyChapman You know what I could totally understand that lol I sometimes flow like that in the kitchen. Nonetheless I wish I could have tasted your oxtails they looked AMAZING !
Hey thanks for checking in. Out of respect for the creator of the vegan oxtail method I show in this video, I don't post her recipe. She has it in her ebook (which I purchased) and there is a link in the description where you can support her and buy it as well. As for the sauce I made.....I freestyled based on my taste buds and didn't write it down. I was just in a mood and following my vibe. But in her book, she has a recipe for "oxtail" sauce that you can follow. I hope you purchase it, because she has so many other dope vegan meals in there too!
You should easily be able to find black eye peas and you may find chickpea flour at an Indian market and rice paper at a Chinese market. As far as the mushrooms, if you can’t find that, then try canned jackfruit in brine. It’s not the sweet one but the unripened green one. That can shred like the mushrooms. Hope this helps!
I overstand lol! When I first saw Sister Woman Vegan and Koren Rachelle make it, I was in disbelief too. But then I tried it and was transformed. It's now a staple in my home. I make a batch and keep them in my freezer for whenever I want. Let me know how it goes when you do try them!
Oh that’s a first! The real thing is delicious…..but since I gave up eating meat, this plant based version is the next best thing. Have you been vegan all your life? Or you just never tried this dish before?
@@TheMindfulPlate No I haven’t been vegan all my life. I was vegetarian and pescatarian growing up before going plant-based vegan/ raw vegan for a little over 8 years now. I just never tried them before and a lot of other things I never tried.
@@CrissysPlantBasedXpress cool. I’ve eaten raw vegan for periods of time but I haven’t sustained it full time. I really enjoy things like pancakes and sandwiches lol. @@TheMindfulPlate it turned out great, thank you 🙏
I love your intro.❤️
Thanks Destini! It was a real conundrum for me…. I had to think about it like wait a minute! How many oxen/cows am I really consuming🤔
Well done 👏 i must try it looks like real oxtail
Thank you!😊
I just subscribed I'll come across your channel and see this recipe. I am I'm Jamaican and Chinese I love oxtail my family make oxtail ever since I was a little boy. Excited to try your recipe and then when I saw watching your video and you said you was in Jamaican I was really watching a video like for real. It's probably way cheaper than oxtail right now too cuz mushroom much cheaper than oxtail price is it is higher it's high high right now
Welcome to the tribe! It’s so true, oxtails are crazy expensive now so even if you’re not vegan THIS will save all the coins! Nice to meet you Philip🇯🇲💫☺️
This Got me ready for some vegan 😮Oxtails tha k you for this well done of a job step by step it looks Amazing!
Thanks!
😮 this looks yummy yummy 😋😋 what are the ingredients, is it possible to know the exact ingredients you are using. thank you for sharing. Watching from Trinidad 🇹🇹🇹🇹
Thanks! Yep I mention the exact ingredients for the noxtail in the video. As for the sauce I don’t mention them, I just make up my own thing. The entire recipe for noxtail and sauce is linked in the description. The cookbook can be found at the bottom of the description
Thank you for this I am soy sensitive and LOVE OXTAIL! I cannot wait to try.
Im soy and gluten sensitive too, thus this is the perfect recipe💫
What ingredients did you use to make your oxtail sauce ? I want to try yours !
I hope you made them and liked it!
great gluten free base mixture! Thank you!
Yes Stephen! That's what I LOVE about this recipe too :)
Please let me know when your in NYC so could bring me some. Keep up the great work !
Thanks Zakiya, I'll definitely keep it up!
I cant wait to try it thanks Empress
You’re most welcome💫
The plate was indeed mindful!!!
Sure was 😊
is this recipe posted? i'd love to try it exactly the way you made it. :)
I'll definitely try making it , looks really😋
🙌🏾🙌🏾 enjoy
It looks delicious omg 😭he didn’t realize that oxtail gelatinous realness was coming from the rice paper great job girl
Right! Even I was shocked! I've made this at least 3x since the video and the rice paper delivers every time!
Mmm, I'm soooo about to make this one! Thank you sistar!
You’re welcome!
Sister, great looking and tasty dish, very very healthy!
Great job.

Sure thing! Thanks for commenting :)
@@TheMindfulPlate I prepared it this evening. WILL keep u posted
@@valeriebooker9901 holds breath......lol! I hope you LOVE it and that you added your own special touch!
I'm not vegan, and the recipe looks so interesting that I would like to try making it. I'm in Jamaica so I would have to source the ingredients.
This looks amazing, I’ve also had it with Jackfruit.
Jackfruit is another great substitute!
Why is this sooo beautiful and so is the cook…❤
Awwww I feel the love! Thanks ☺️
More gravy and it's the deal breaker..🙌🏽
Gravy makes everything nice!!! I agree!
😮
I like honesty ❤will try
☺️☺️☺️
cant wait to try it you are the bomb
Thanks Pamela, I appreciate that :)
Thanks for sharing....it looks delicious
You’re welcome ☺️
I have to try this to believe it.
I'm going to try this.
🙌🏾
So worth it!
That looked amazing and I want it to test as amazing.
Thanks Lemont. I encourage you to get the recipe and try it. It’s a regular in my kitchen because it truly does the job with texture and taste!
I love it, thanks Queen 😂❤🎉
You’re welcome 😊
Looks delicious I never had this before not even the real thing.
Oh that’s a first! The real thing is delicious…..but since I gave up eating meat, this plant based version is the next best thing. Have you been vegan all your life? Or you just never tried this dish before?
@@TheMindfulPlate
No I haven’t been vegan all my life.
And even when I make them raw, the dehydrator eats up all my time. The first time I made raw vegan 8 hour pancakes was the last time lol!
New subscriber and this looks amazing, I've made this before but with the gluten, but I am going to try this one, I too use to love oxtail but since going plant based gave it all up, I may tweak mine a bit but thanks for this one😋😋😋
Hi welcome to the channel ☺️ Yes this one works really well without the gluten. I was surprised by how well the Black Eye Peas held everything together as if it were gluten. Enjoy!
What can I substitute mushrooms with
Jackfruit!
I love it, this is amazing, I will try it for sure
Thanks, enjoy!
😊
This looks good and so i am going to try
Thank Reesa! Enjoy them :)
After freezing, how long do you let the oxtails thaw?
I usually take it out of the freezer the night before I want to make it. You can also take it out the morning of if you plan on having it for dinner r
Thank you for your recipe!!!🎉🎉🎉😊
You’re welcome 💫
Looks delicious ❤
Thanks!
cool. I'll try it
Enjoy!
I've gotta try these Noxtails
So good!
Is there a substitute for the mushrooms bc I’m highly allergic? But I definitely wanna try this oxtail recipe
Yes, use jackfruit. They can shred similarly to the mushrooms. I would roast them as well to ensure they dry out a bit and get a more meaty texture.
@@TheMindfulPlate thank you so very much
Looks great..what kind of mushrooms are these?
These are King Oyster Mushrooms 🍄
