Its hard to believe now that there was doubt and attitudes when Barry Gordy pulled Diana ahead of Flo Ballard to be the lead of the Supremes. Flo was considered the powerful soul singer and Diana was widely considered the weakest singer, with a thin, nasal voice. People thought he was nuts and Flo was devastated. But he was right. He wanted cross-over appeal. Flo was great for R &B, but he had a bigger vision. He bet on the right one. So beautiful, classy with an ethereal voice. Who wouldnt fall in love with this woman?? ❤️

It's crazy how Diana's voice kept on evolving and just kept on getting even better as she grew older when it's the opposite for majority of the singers even the great ones as their voice would decline as they grow older! One thing that set Diana apart from the rest was that her voice was different, she had a unique vocal tone and phrasing on her songs and she had that star factor so it's no wonder Berry Gordy put her on Lead.
This is one reason why none of them other Black R&B singers could ever touch Diana, because she could sing what they could not, nor could the White artists either for they don’t OWN ENOUGH SOUL. All put together with a PITCH-PERRRRFECT SPELLBINDING TONE.
Interesting fact: Steven Spielberg forced Don Bluth to cut 10-11 minutes of fully animated footage from The Land Before Time, footage that Spielberg thought was too frightening for young children and most of which was about the T. rex and situations where the young dinosaurs were put in extreme peril.
