That's how so many fights and estrangements ignite...when people create a crazy false story in their head, especially about another person's motives or intent.

After watching this, if I start ruminating, I ask myself "What story are you making up?" and it immediately stops the spin cycle. I am sure the question activates another part of the brain.
It has been a game changer for me.
I've just now gotten curious about my emotional triggers. The whole left v right, conservative v liberal business thats been going on absolutely tears me up. My parents argued a lot when I was growing up. I wonder if they are connected in some way

Interesting, but it sounds as if a step is missing. Wouldn't the reckoning be: a button was pushed, let me figure out why, after I ask this person what they meant by that comment, gesture etc. If it was intended because my "stories" about this person are accurate that is one thing I can deal with. If the person was just sighing for no reason, that is completely different.
Goes back to what Miguel Ruiz said about "assumption".

lisa a romano is much better at explaining codependency issues than brene as I find that she uses a lot of words to explain the core of the issue, its like she just rambles on and on before she makes her point, yawn
