All 140 of em LOL shitty time for pony cars people think this car saved mustang but in my opinion almost DESTROYED it... thank god Ford came out with the fox platform... that’s what saved mustang.. still think this is a cool find... most hotrodders parted these up for the front ends... I’m a Chevy guy but love to see a survivor. 👍🏼💪🏼

@@skellagher actually the fox body early 80s didn’t exactly come with that much horse power and were very ugly in my opinion wasn’t until the late 80s early 90s fox body started looking good then they scraped it for the ugly new edge mustang which looked ugly but at least had the power it wasn’t until the 5th gen mustang came out they went back to being badass looking and with the power to match

I know its an inanimate object. I know it has no form of consciousness or existences. But after seeing an abandoned car like this come back to life, I just got this crazy feeling deep down its saying "Thank you." I just think some old cars deserve a second chance and finds like this make me wanna go out and work on one.

I'm MOPAR, but my daddy made sure I was taught to appreciate muscle cars, semi's, tractors, and motorcycles. I knew the parts of a slant 6 (Dart) when I was 5 yrs old. He was overhauling it. He even laid them out on a sheet. I was next to him under several chassis's well into my 20s and helped overhaul a motorcycle engine. My point is -- that while I'm now 57 (and obviously a Daddy's girl), I still have a passion for seeing these great classics come to life. Way to go!
Considering that the Mustang 2 eventually evolved into the much loved Fox Body Mustang. This poor little gem should definitely be saved from the grave, she has good bones, and the will to live, so she should definitely be given that chance

I also hear that Turkey, and the Middle East, seem to be a growing place for chopper bikes, and I hear that Turkey, Iraq, and Pakistan seem to be having some good custom motorcycle manufacturers. Also, I had lived most of my life in the state where Dylan lives in the USA, and that state has a few motorcycle manufacturers as well. I have a 1978 King Cobra Mustang II and I love the thing, and never plan on getting rid of it. You can bet you wont see another when you go to a car show!!
This car really deserves a new life, you really don’t see them much, especially the cobras. They are a nice looking car, at least they don’t look like a Toyota, Honda or any number of new cars!👍👍👍

I am in complete agreement. And thank God it's not another honda or Toyota. Most cars just have no style at all except the challenger. Nowadays just about everything at new car dealers is ugly and I therefor drive all older stuff life is to short to drive boring ugly modern cars

As someone who certainly appreciates older vehicles like classic Mustangs, I applaud you for your focused dedication in trying to bring this car back to life. Many years ago I took an auto body class at a community college so I could take the best of a long-ignored 1973 F350 dumptruck and a working 1974 F150 pickup and meld them into a better-looking and better-working dumptruck. The college provided me with the tools, heavy lift for the cab, help from classmates (sometimes a liability) and expert guidance from an experienced instructor that I needed. That's where I personally learned how much work is involved in a restoration project. One suggestion for you is to use a respirator mask when working with rusty, dirty projects that release small-particulate matter that tends to be inhaled -- because of the damage it can cause to your lungs, which often doesn't show up until years later. Enjoy your work and take care.
You are exactly right. There is a lot to a restoration. The reason I know is because of 15 years of complete collision repair and restoration. I was involved in every aspect of repair of a damaged vehicle from frame to finish. It also includes the ground up restoration of a 66 Mustang I owned in 1980 and a 74 Harley Super Glide in 2021. As I’m sure you learned there are many aspects of a full restoration so I hope he does where a mask/respirator specially when in a confined area.
Since we unfortunately live in a world full of covid I could see any kind of covid mask working a charm for this purpose.
I realize I'm not the first person to point this out...after all, I agree...you really should restore this little dude. I'm really hoping to see a series on the restoration of this car. It deserves it.
Yeah, I think these cars are hideous, however this is a piece of american automobile history and aren't seen on the road very often and despite being a chevy guy I agree with you.

I had a 77 cobra 2 in high school in the 80s. White with red stripes, 302 v8 with 4 barrel 4 speed in floor. It would run like a bat out of hell. Sold it in the late 90s to a couple that completely restored it. It's a show car now.

My uncle was a car dealer back in the day, had one of these (red with a big snake on the hood) that I absolutely loved! I was 14 at the time, and not prepared to own a car. But I wanted it.
The King Cobra. Designed to take on the Pontiac Trans Am! At least in stickerage.
I remember being 9 or 10 years old and the neighbor across from my Grandparents house had a Teenage son that had a perfect looking Mustang 2.White with sky blue cobra on the hood.I remember it sounded Radical for sure.Every now and then he would do a Burnout and smoke the whole street up.
My first NEW car was a white 1978 Mustang II Cobra. I sat in the local Ford salesman's office and ordered it right from the order book. It took about 6 weeks to come in.
It was a V8 4 speed with all available options except A/C and T-Top. I ordered it with T-Top but Ford was having a suppler issue with the company that installed the T-Top, so I couldn't get it and just installed a pop up sunroof in it. It was a Cobra SE edition that came with "European" blacked out brite trim, special "Lace" polished aluminum wheels and special black vinyl w/gold velour inset seats. I still have the window sticker and it listed for around $4500 new. I was earning $1.65 an hour part time, so it was pretty expensive to me.
A year later, because of this car is how I met my soon to be wife. She loved the car and tracked down the owner just so she could go for a ride in it.........the rest is history.
42 years later I'm still married to the same wonderful girl, but the other girl is long gone. A couple of years later I sold it to a friend of mine that only had it a few months and totaled it. I think my wife was more upset about it than I was.
So I still remember everything about the interior and exterior and the cool little pop down map light. I hope you do at least a partial restore because they are fun to drive and definitely don't see them on the road....
This is one of my favorite! All the fans need to rally around this Little Mustang! For some reason I would like you to really turn this into a series. It deserves it. You could pick up used parts and it also needs a good power wash. Used four barrel intake and Holley carb! Its would be great if parts supplier could jump in on this project! Can't wait till the next episode!

My first car was a 74 Mustang II. It was 9 years old when I got it in 83. This video makes me nostalgic for those teenage days. Also makes me angry once again at the ex husband that wrecked it.....
My first car was also a74 Mustang II in 83, red 4cyl automatic, so many High School memories. I loved that car even with manual windows and a AM radio.
Mine was a 75 hatchback I got in 1983. Was 15 and wrecked before 16. Was a fun car. Wish I had it back. So much fun

McCool--yes it was! I purchased a 1976 Mustang II Ghia, Black & Gold, 302 V8, Automatic, bought it in Milwaukee and drove it 60 miles north to Fond du Lac, engine sounded like bearings were bad. I made it to my Dads 40' x 80' garage. Ended up removing smog and distributor and--added- BOSS CAM kit. Edelbrock 4BBL w/ Holley carb. R&R exhaust installed headers with 3" pipes. Excellent performance- replaced brakes and suspension then serviced transmission and rear axle. I kept it original because the black paint was beautiful polished and the Ghia wheels--well I got many compliments! Comments of bewilderment, because the sound was awesum and it looked "factory". Being 6 foot 2 and 240#++++2 little munchkins in rear car seats- I sold it at a car show and profitted 2000 over my total investment. Good luck with this one!
When I met my wife in 1982 ( still married to her ) , she was driving a 1976 Two Door White Mustang ll with a 4 Banger in it…All Red Interior and we drown to Elizabethan Tennessee to spend our Honeymoon in the Mountains at a Chalet …Her little car was so beautiful !!
Name suggestion: Lazarus, it was in the grave and it came out at the Master's instruction. Will be watching this restoration, as my dad had a '74 Mustang 2. Was just a little kid, but I remember having a lot of good times riding around with him.

Angel is a good name, it reflects the cars era from the TV show Charlie's Angels, they had a white one on the show.

I've have been wanting to find one to restore for years.Ever sense my dear mother passed away.
She had purchased one new in 1976 ,it was the black and gold one .

That was a well optioned car when it was bought. I noticed it has a clock, am/fm radio, and the kicker is that metal plate on the driver's side of the engine was where an air conditioner compressor lived. Finding one with that is rare. On a side note, when you were trying to get the blower motor running, you were only adjusting the fan speed. The lower slide has to be moved to heat or air to be turned on. Also, the radio is missing the knob to turn on. You have to turn the metal rod sticking up on the driver's side to turn it on. The other knob between the radio and the steering wheel is the cigarette lighter. If you need parts, feel free to contact me. I have 3 of these cars and parts to build 2 more. I can also give you a list to find every peice needed. It took a couple of years to find different venders who sell everything for it.
The name "Deuce" sounds pretty neat for a 70s mustang!
I will admit, as a chevy guy, I really do enjoy the old mustangs from the 60s and 70s. I feel like the Mustang II got hate because it wasnt as good looking as its previous version, but I actually think it's a decent looking car in general. I havent seen a restoration of one on UA-cam yet. Could do a budget restoration and get her to former glory. Cant wait to see more, it's not often I get excited about a build on UA-cam!

Ever since my dad passed a year and a half ago, his '78 Mustang II King Cobra has begging me to give it the same treatment you've been giving this '77!! She's in much better shape than this as it sat covered in our garage for 30 years. It's mostly trying to get her to start up that's the issue, so this is THE perfect guide for me to get started!! Love your videos, especially this series!!

I have always had a soft spot for the Mustang II. When I was a little kid, a cousin had one and I thought it was the coolest thing. Nice to see one get some love.
Back in the day in the Tampa Bay area, every dude with a mullet had a 95YNF tag on their car. Air shocks, N50s, and a 95YNF tag was all you needed, LOL
We shared the same experiences in the same locality, LOL.
I hope to see as close to a restoration as you can get with this. She deserves it. Not going to be easy on you, because so much just doesn't exist anymore. However, I wish you the best with it. By the way, mine was the same color combo, just a 4 cylinder 4 speed. I miss that old car. It was my first car.

That puts a smile on my face !! The Cobra 2's with the 302 are underestimated !! She has smooth lines like the side scoop. Without that side scoop it might have been boring !! Get this baby a full restoration and enjoy it !! I'm still smiling !!

Kevin how many fingers am I holding up? There are plenty of project cars where you'd get some of your money back after restoring, even a simple fix it up job. That thing is negative math.

I absolutely love this video! Even Ford guys hated these Mustangs, but there’s just something endearing about them. And as someone who was born in 72, this car really takes me back. Really looking forward to the next video!
They were dogs, but the good news is you could make them fast with a few over the counter parts. Good pistons and a cam and they really woke up

Brings back memories. My first car, back in 1983, was a '75 Mustang II, just like this one. Mine was white with a blue interior and had the 302. Lots of fun. Seemed to go through ignition modules and water pumps. Revive this thing. I haven't seen one in years.
Mine too! Bought it in 80’. 302, C-4 transmission, hatchback, factory a/c, white vinyl interior with blue carpet. I did laugh a little when he tried the heater/ac fan….you’ve got to select which option you want before it will come on! Lol. Learned a ton about repairing cars from that car and had a blast doing it. Put a 4 barrel on it with a set of headers and it will start to come alive😋. Those were the days. I still miss that car.

My first car was a 74 mustang II. Love these things.
I was 16 in 1975 and had just got my license. I wanted a Mustang II. Not a Cobra, just a basic Mach 1, which I considered the ultimate Mustang. I still love both the Mustang II and the Pinto . My daily driver for the past 20+ years has been a 1972 Pinto squire (woodgrain) wagon.

First I've seen a Mustang II in a while. Just realized it has nice lines, window shapes, etc. Lots of potential for a sweet little pony ride there. Be fun to see what comes off when you wash it.

Your fan didn't work at 34:02 because the position selector lever was in the "off" position. Selector selector lever must be on any one of the other positions for the fan to work.

People may not like the mustang 2 but in my opinion it’s still more of a car than the Mach e mustang suv thing 😂
Thank you for saving this Mustang. Nobody bothered saving these and are why they are rare. I seen a Cobra II sell for more than a GT350 Cobra because of this rarity. I had a '74 Mach I myself eons ago.

I know the II was not the most popular of the 'stangs, but i love them, and i had a '78 when i was 14 that i leraned to drive a manual in when i was 12. It had belonged to my grandparents and they gave it to me. I have had a lot of cars, and i love 80's machines, but the little mustang II will always have a place in my heart. I very much regret getting rid of that car, and would give almost anything to be able togo back and change that. I look for one every chance i get, and they are always too expensive, or too far gone. THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS ONE IN YOUR CHANNEL TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD!
I think most people would be surprised and would have a lot of fun in one of these cars. I have a '78 KC and hope to see you do more with it. It might be too rough to be worth a restore, if money is a concern, but people have done worse. You can't really find these clean. They are finally getting popular, which is going to help. Many times when I go to order a part for mine the person on the other end of the phone says, "You are the 3rd person to call about this car today." Good luck.

I am very glad that you got it running, and I know that I am the only one, but I also enjoyed listening to it being cranked before it started.
I purchased a mustang Cobra new in 1977. It was just like that car you have. White exterior with red stripes and red interior, 302 4 speed. Was it a true muscle car? No but the light weight, rack and pinion steering and 4 speed made it as fun to drive as any car I owned. It cost 5500.00 off the dealer show room floor.
My aunt fern had a king cobra mustang it was white with red stripes down the doors Rest In Peace to both of them

I had a 74 Ghia V6 between 1995 and 2006. It was a nice car.
That four speed is very rare. I have had several of these mustangs and yet have seen a factory four speed in person. Would love to see more on this car.
My 75 had 6cyl with 4speed. Low gears. Was a lot of fun racing stop sign to stop sign back in the early to mid 80’s
Love to see an old classic revived. TY for sharing. One thing to consider. This car has 4 lug wheels. this indicates it was a six cylinder car at birth and later the V8 was introduced to it. The V8 small block bolts right into the engine mounts and Transmission with little to know mods needed.
If I remember right a 351 Windsor would drop right in also
This has to be my new favorite video - along with part two... I picked up a King in 2001 that had been sitting since 96. I finally got around to messing with it in 2016 and basically did the same things except I still have not fixed the brakes or the gas tank. This is my new motivating video.

They are a total blast to drive! Especially with the 4-speed.
I have a 78 king Cobra that I just took to the shop with all new suspension, steering, brakes and fuel system to be installed plus anything else to get it up and running safely.

I used to own a Cobra II 1977. It had the manual 4 speeds tranny with a more recent and highly beefed up 302 under the hood for "more aggressiveness"...

@@haydona1845 as I recall mid 70’s cars were actually started to be built cheaply. Urethane (plastic) bumpers were now in use by 1974. Chrome was no longer used. And having owned a 70’s car at one time I know how much plastic was in those cars, even in the interior. The intake manifolds of my two Honda’s are made of metal and are many parts on them. Name it.

Look around then. You can pick them up in good shape fairly cheap compared to other mustangs.
Remember it's always important to check the fluid levels after you have started the car and ran it

Actually it's before and after it's running. never wise to try to run an engine without checking the fluids first.
Weird how somebody parked it all those years just because starter was going bad. You didn't have to do much to it to get it running and then it purred like a kitten. Somebody didn't "love" this car. They were hard cars to "love" but its a piece of history that should be saved if it can be. Rough body with all the rust, probably not a good candidate for "full restoration" since it will cost more than it will ever be worth, IMHO. Make a good "rat rod" if you just fix the brakes and the steering column and put some tires on it! Nice video, as always, thanks for bringing us along!
1974 was the only year the Mustang was ever sold with out a V8 option, only the 4 AND v6 2.8 LITERS WERE AVAILABLE, 1975 Ford offered the v8 option. My first car was a 1974 Mach 1 with the V6 I bought back in 1982. It's right there on the other side of my garage still. I love that little car ! Ford ended the Mach1 in 1976 when the Cobra II came out. Loved the Video, Thanks!!

I believe that wee beasty is worthy of some time and effort, those little V8 Cobras were screamers, and way back when I owned a '74 304 GremlinX they always dusted me after 70mph (had a Jeep 3-speed, jeep engine, talking tonnes of torque up to 60, floating valves at 90), always liked them though they didn't have quite the style of the older 'Stangs. I must say that I enjoy your candor and thoroughness whilst trouble-shooting old iron, keep up the good work, keep the vids coming, bless ya'll, stay safe, be kind.

I never understood why people dont like this generation. Its actually a good looking car. Not as strong as the predecessor but blame the government for all those stupid regulations. Desireable especially with a v8 or if you daily it maybe a v6 also a good choice.
I'm still having urges to get one and "restomod" it with modern guts.

@@zalanr.2951 You should listen to people that owned them when they were fairly new. They were not well put together and did not feel like a solid car when you drove them. Today you can turn them into anything you want, but back then the government would come down on your if you took off any of that smog equipment.

My dad had one of these back in the 80s it had a 6 cylinder in it he found another mustang that was wrecked, it had a v8 he switch motors the car was a fast little hotrod, cool project man brings back memories for me,nice work getting it fired up

Dylan Reverse is all the way towards you, and you need to push the shifter down before it will move up into Reverse gear. I had 3 mustang 2s at one point and they are great cars, I really hope you restore it. If you ever want to sell it please let me know I would love to have one again.

I had a new 1976 Cobra II and I loved it. I got it as a 19 year old and gave up a 65 corvair sedan for it.
Not sure why people hate on this body style. They look good and are a lot of fun to drive! One thing for sure done right is the front suspension. How many reto-mods have a Mustang II front end?
