- We purchased this little 1960 Ford Falcon at the Auction with the Galaxie. We are excited to see if it will fire up and drive since last being registered in 1985! Sadly, the car is in very bad condition after sitting out in the North Carolina weather for all these years. If it's too far gone to rescue, we can most definitely use it to save others! I just love the simplicity of these old cars. Anybody can work on them.
Those 6cil deserve more love, with a proper carburator, intake and exhaust are really nice. And in Argentina they developed a 4 valve per cylinder head and they sound awesome with it, they rev to 8000rpm.

With the original 2 valve head, a good Weber 42 double barrel, and the 6 into 1 header they run very nice too. And sound wicked

Sir, you're the first "Drag-It-Home" channel I've ever watched who actually changed the oil before attempting to start/run the engine. Kudos to you, with my utmost of respect. Just subscribed because of this.
My dad was selling Fords back in the 80s, so when he'd bring a "demo" home I was sure to drive it around the block. Always liked the Falcons especially the small V8 versions.

I owned a '63 convertible as transportation to college in 1969-70, ran and drove great. I sold it to restorer and my sister in CT said she saw it at a car show back there, and the new guy did a great job. Glad my old "junker" is still running.

My older brother had one. On the passenger side, under the dash, is a vent door. It has a twist latch. My brother used to keep his whiskey bottle in there. He'd use a tennis ball to keep it from rattling.
First drive in 37 years… one wheel brake… drop the hammer side step the clutch and shoot out of the garage.

My brother had a 62 convertible, straight 6. Pretty cool car, handled terribly and was very gutless but looked cool! Kudos for attempting to save another classic from the dreaded crusher! It runs quite well and sounds pretty mean 4 a 6 banger! Fun times!
This is almost the exact Falcon I bought in 1972 shortly before getting married. (white with blue interior) Mine had a floor shift conversion, similar to this one. The three speed has no synchro on low gear but does on second and third. (unless they are broken) I solved the shot front seat problem by dropping in a front seat from a 1964 2 door Dodge Polara. Only had to drill for the two front mounting bolts, the back bolts were a drop in fit. Plus, the Dodge seat set me up about three inches higher than the original seats.
This is why I love Ford's man that sounds so sweet for her age awesome guys

Once again I love seeing falcons. I have a 63.5 sprint with a 260 and 4 speed and a complete frame up restoration. It’s been in our family since it was bought new off the show room floor. Great video. Keep ‘em coming.
My 1st car was a baby blue, 2 door '63 Falcon 144 c.i., I-6 automatic. On a Friday in 1970, as a junior in H.S., I paid $100 for it and whatever I needed off of a junk/parts car, 1962 Mercury Comet 3-speed standard to replace the blown automatic transmission. I took the pedal assembly, bell housing, flywheel, transmission, crossmember support, and driveshaft . All for a hundred! I bought a new clutch, pressure plate, TOB, and a 3-speed 'Spark-o-matic" floor shift, turned the flywheel, and drove it to school on Monday. I was laughed at by the muscle car crowd. I broke the skinny, round shifter at the nut,(during a power shift?) and used a pair of Craftsman Vice Grips to get back home. sold it that way, too!
My daily driver is a 62’ Falcon sedan. I left the body the way I found it. But it runs excellent. Original 144 cubic inch(2.4 liter) straight six. I put a new starter, cleaned the carb, new brakes,oil changed ,used coil and good used tires. I spent $507.00 to get it running. Love your channel!
My great grandmother in Walsenburg had an identical twin to that up til she passed, my idiotuncle turned it into a drag car. It was all original, ran like a champ, fun as hell to drive.....love the vid.

I've got a 61' Falcon myself, and they are fun little cars. The oil pan is the 144 oil pan, they had drain hole in the back. The 200 pan would've had the side mounted plug.
Sweet! I used to have ‘62 with a 2.3 and 4 speed, definitely a fun little cruiser! Hmm I wonder if the 144 oil pan fits the 200, as it also had the 144 fuel pump bolted to it.
I'm the second owner of my 61' Falcon futura. I also own a 60' Falcon station wagon, a 62' falcon coupe and a 64.5 falcon futura.
The front bumper looks decent, would you consider selling it? Mine was mangled do to the bumper jack. These bumpers didn’t take a bumper jack very well.
Hey, the fuel pump is dual action the top hoses are vacuum assist for the windshield wiper motor. Had the same on my Edsel.

I LOVE those old Falcons!! Simple, practical cars. Would love to see one rebuilt and updated (better suspension, brakes and seats).
The hood scoop, LOL- I have an F350. It is a crew cab, 4WD, the V10, TBC Gibson headers, the SPD Y-pipe kit and a Gibson side exhaust- when I went to paint it, I used an intercooler scoop from an '87 300ZX turbo, flipped it around and cut a large hole below. So many people think it's a tacked-on O'Reilly's fake scoop, but it works to evacuate the heat from under the hood. When I show them it is bolted & panel bonded to the hood, it shuts their mouths
Always had a love for the early 61 and 63 Ford falcons thanks to my dad who bought off the showroom floor brand new 1963 Ford falcon ranchero beautiful red and tan interior color three on the tree he drove that car from 1963 all the way up until I inherited it in 2000 when he passed away these little Ford falcons whether they be the ranchero two-door or four-door wagons or coops don't matter they are beautiful in their own right and work every penny

I had the younger brother to your falcon, a 1965 Falcon Futura, with the same engine. You could not kill those engines and my car ran for so many years well for me and my family that I suspect it’s still going for someone else.

Ford made Falcons in Australia from 1960 to 2016. The 250ci straight 6 was fully developed into the awesome 4 litre Barra engine in the 2002 BA Falcon. The factory-fitted turbocharged Barra is legendary! In 2016 I bought a new FGX XR6T straight off the showroom floor that produced 436 hp and speed-limited to 275km/h or 172 mph. An absolutely awesome car that I had to give up 🥲
3:15...back in the day, when you could pop the hood, drop a wrench in the engine bay, and it would hit the ground without touching anything on the way down.
I had a '62, (white, black interior bench seat, three on the tree), 2dr, in high school back in the early 70's. Had a lot of fun in that car. Wish I had it today.
I had a 61 wagon. Had 170 I6 GREAT fuel mileage, handled good, lotsa fishing trips, slept in the back...
My dad had a 1960 Ford Falcon. It was baby blue. He sold it back in the 80's to some family for their son. I remind him now about this car and he should've given it to his own son!

I love these early Falcons but I would absolutely have to find a 302 to squeeze into it.

You would be more authentic to drop in a 221, 260, or 289. I used to wrench for Ford when the 302 came out. The ONLY reason they punched it up to 302 inches was because of the late sixties - early 70s smog laws. The engine HAD to be bigger in order to produce the same power as the 289 AND it had less gas mileage because of the smog crap they were forced to use.

In Canada in 1960, Ford Falcon was also called Frontenac (a division of Ford Canada).
Ford Faaaaalconn! This was my favourite childhood car in addition to Ford Mustang. Although I've never driven it but I loved it in my early childhood because it seemed kinda cute to me :-)

We had a 60 Falcon when I was a little kid. The thing had a tiny six cylinder in it and a automatic. It smoked constantly out of the blo by tube under the car and loved to vapor lock and die and refuse to start. It also drove and stopped horribly.
Mom was so happy when we finally got rid of it and it's scary to think that platform became the Mustang but at least it gives you all kinds of upgrade parts to play with if you have one you want to play with. The 65 body looked so much nicer and probably got the better running gear upgrades if you ordered a v8.
Shame you couldn't save this one. My first car was a 69 Ford Falcon with a straight six 200ci auto on the column. Could NOT kill the motor, god knows i drove it like i stole it. Wouldn't have been afraid to take off to California in it, great running car. 👍

I purchased a 1960 Falcon 170 pursuit from a farm in the late 1990's in Australia for $75 .The car had not run for nearly 30 years .Got it going again and fully restored the old girl and she was a beauty !.

Adding a 'like' as you blew the crud off the engine, lubricated the bores and changed the oil before trying to start it !

I just recently bought a 1959 Ford Edsel! It was last tagged in 75, so it's been sitting for nearly 47 years under a shed. I was able to get the 332 v8 to idle, and now I'm working on dong a full rebuild.

My first car was a '65 Falcon with the 170 ci 6. I was stolen in 1981, while I was at work. It's very seldom that I don't wish that I still had that car. It would start in any weather, at the first turn of the key.

Had a 61 2 door way back in 69 when I was 16. Was a 144 / 2 speed auto. Was a dog. Engine was crap. Picked up a 170 with 3 speed manual and converted it over. Was a blast. Got a junked 63 with the Futura bucket seat/console interior and put that in mine. Loved that car. Also picked up a 61 2 door wagon around the same time. Got the wagon running and traded it and $100 for a 49 Club Coupe. Dont have any of them anymore but would love to still have the wagon.
Love the Falcon, it was very overshadowed by the Mustang, of course,but it’s a great car.
A buddy of mine had a 1964 second generation convertible with the 289 Windsor, blue with a white interior. Duel exhaust, it was a sweet ride. His wife made him sell it, and not long after that he got divorced, he should have kept the Falcon to start with!

The first Mustang was mechanically identical to the Falcon, just had different sheet metal. Having the Falcon was a better bet, they were less likely to get stolen.

Love it, I had a red one like that in 77 really enjoyed driving it. I agree she to ruff in save,but a great donor car for sure.
At least y'all are using all of the original parts off of it that can be used.,or repurposed to. For fixing up other ones to be saved.& able to still stay on the road.& Kept in the best conditions possible to for vehicles that are that old to begin with.

I had the 61 model in the late sixties. it was pretty used up by the time I got it. It was in a better shape than the one above but still not in good shape. I delivered pizza's in it when a teenager. It drove and rode like a tank. the floor boards were half there. The engine however was actually pretty good and the 6 cyl got good gas mileage. I think it had 13 inch tires. I don't even remember what happened to it. Wasn't worth much. It's just a memory now.

In Australia we only had the 4 door version in that version model.
One thing the USA Falcons (and Mustangs) have I wish Australian built Fords had was galvanised rockers/sills. Can see on this Falcon the sills are solid but the quarter panel above above is completely rotted.
1960 Australian Falcon was the XK series.

The motor isn't stuck by a longshot, the old bird is attempting to fire away, but before the old Ford bird will ever get airborne again, there IS considerable work to be done. Now I see for me the bird IS indeed flying, if not as yet back into the wild blue yonder of yore. I have my faith it's all a matter of time, though.
