This was one of the biggest songs in the world when it came out. You should definitely check out more by Gorillaz, particularly Clint Eastwood and Dare
the yare noware near as good as their new stuff
I thought Clint Eastwood was good, but this is the song that made me a fan!
yep also Andromeda, 19-200 soulchild remix version, Rhinestone eyes, On a Melancholy Hill
Where? It’s dare.
Welcome to the world of the plastic beach with snoop great video song combo too. Got a de la soul combo on that album and a bobby womack combo. All three great songs.
Clint Eastwood is the breakout hit that launched Gorillaz. You certainly should do that.
I was just gonna recommend this
Del is the best!
The live versions with Snoop!
I second this recommendation!! 👌
19-2000
Gorillaz stand the test of time. Still sounds modern. It's 20 yrs old I believe. the singer is from Blur. The band is a super group.
@@glaframbYeah, this all rings true as far as I can recall. Gorillaz was kind of a post-modern, multi-media, very early internet concept band with really great tunes.
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood is a must
This!
Yes and Dare too
The cartoonyness of this video is part of the Gorillaz style. FYI, the lead singer and genius behind Gorillaz is also founder and singer for the 90's band Blur. You should check them out too. Totally different vibe.
Ooo! I did not know that. Thank you.
I didnt know that either
they've listened to Song 2 awhile back
Damon Alban
And let's not forget Mick Jones from the Clash.
I love that she said "it doesn't have to make sense, it's all about feel good.". Exactly how I feel about a lot of music.
well if the song has shitty lyrics then no
@@touchingisjustthefirststep nah fam your name and pfp are mad sus 🤣🤣 EDP in training or what?
This song was all over the radio back in the day. Good tune.
You're not alone in having a difficult time trying to classify or compare this. Mom said it best at the end, "it just feels good". Hope to hear more Gorillaz, very unique band with a great variety of sounds.
Yeah, I gave up trying to pin them to a genre so I either say mixed or it's just good music.
Gorillaz is a virtual Band, made by Damon Albarn Ex-front singer of the Brit Pop-Rock band Blur and Jamie Hewlett, Comic book novelist and graphic designer (he did the Tank Girl, Punk rock Comics in the 90's)
The only 2 recuring band members are Damon and Hewlett, with Damon been the composer and Front-man.
They however use a virtual band, so that they can switch members and do Guest and duets without much issue, like other bands would have if they switched members, the core members of the "virtual" band been more or less the same through the years.
The Gorillaz core members are the Singer 2-D( the guy with the vacant black eyes), Murdoc the BAssist( the guy with the reversed Cross necklace), Russel the Drummer and Noodle the Japanese Guitar girl.
Gorillaz as an EXTENSIVE LORE and background, where each albums and other types of media serves as the canvas for a story over the 20 last years.
2-D and Murdoc where both in the same college in England, Muroc as always been isnpire by bands and singers like Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains etc, so when he wanted to become the greatest Musician, he made a deal with the Prince of Darkness, no one is sure if this is why Gorillaz as been so succesfull or not...
2-D lost his eyes(vision) during a failed Heist orchestrated by Murdoc.
Russel was from Brooklyn, but he emigrated to UK after his pals where all killed in a drive by shoot out, the Spirits of his dead Pals has find refuge inside Russel's body, so unknowed to him he has ALL the Rapping abilities that his former gang members could have, and thats why each time you see a Ghost coming out of him and Rap in the songs, in this Trance like state he isn't aware of whats going on.
Noodle as a VERY complicated backstory, that i forgot half of it, but she was something of a child soldier with abilites experiement iirc, but since she's smart as fuck, she figured a way to get out of whatever facility she was in.
She one day found an ad for the band looking for a guitarist on the web,so she decided to escape, by hacking the bands computer and accounts, and order via Email a whole carton of Cup noodles to their adress, and she slipped herself in the box.
Once she got there the band members where surprised, but since none could understand japanese, and she could'nt speak english well at the time, and they found her in a box of Noodles, they simply called her noodles.
Right on ever point, you forgot to mention Damon and Jamie were flat mates and that's how they got together . Lol
Hell ya!!Noodles rocks out!!🤘😄
Yep tell em dude.
This piece still sounds fresh. If it was released today, people would likely think that it was cutting edge.
It was then and wouldn't be now
@@nicholasboatwright5407 Opinions vary. That's why I said "likely". It is just my opinion. No offense though.
@@randymiller2460 I’m late to this, but this song would absolutely dominate TikTok if it was released today
Gorillaz are always represented by the cartoon characters they even did it live at the MTV awards in 2010 using a transparent screen. The artist is Jamie Hewitt who was famous for “Tank girl” in the 90s (they made it a movie).
Hell yeah they made it into a movie. 🤘
Watch Gorillaz live @montreaux jazz fest. Freaking awesome 👍
Just a quick fix, the artist's last name is Hewlett (with an L)
Damon Albarn is the genius behind this. Lead singer from Blur FYI.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they did Song 2 a while back, for reference..
Ben Shafer they did a lot lol. If you’re not so familiar with blur, check them out further...
There’s no other way
Parklife
The universal
Tender
Coffee & tv
Song 2
Girls & boys
Charmless man
End of a century
Country house
Beetlebum
@@goldboy150 I meant Brad & Lex did the song. Pretty big Blur fan since '91 or so✌
Ben Shafer ahh ok. That makes sense. Apologies.
Tina weymouth of talking heads played bass for girillaz
The hip hop part of this song is done by De La Soul.
With Lex sitting next to her mother, I can see where she got her beautiful infectious smile, she and her mother have the same smile and you can’t help but smile also when you see one of them smile. 😀
This was my son's first big stadium Rock concert. For the rest of his life he'll be able to say that he watched an animated band perform live 💯🥰😳
I am cracking up, for once Lex seems confused and Brad is totally dialed in.
This is more Brad's speed. Love Mama Lex grooving on the end of the couch!
Wondering how many picked that up
That is funny and what is crazy is that it took Gorillaz to do so.
Bruh how does he seem dialed in? Every video he sits there with a blank face, offering no reaction, including this one?
The Gorillaz are a animated band. They use lots of guest artists on their tracks. A first VIRTUAL band.. genius and unique....
Might be the greatest, not the first thought.
@@LoisoPondohva who's the first?
@@paolo3794 Alan and the Chipmunks (original, not the film) was the first popular western one, but there were a couple obscure ones (especially in Japan) before and after that but before the Gorillaz.
@@LoisoPondohva wtf💀
@@paolo3794 if something is first but garbage, it doesn't change the fact that it was first.
When this first came out and MTV actually showed videos all day long, this was a huge hit. But not neccessarily mainstream & still became a hit. It was new, different, up changing in music & lyrics and filming. Thanks for reacting. Always liked this song.
Gorillaz were the first Successful Virtual Band. Conceptually the Cartoon characters are a mask for various artists to express themselves outside their normal genres. The characters have a fully developed world and back story. The were created by Damon Albarn and James Hewlett (creator of the comic Tank Girl)
"It doesn't have to make sense. It's all about feel good".
And we all said Yes!
How could not realise the legends, the greatness that are De la Soul
Yeh they just kids bro, they wouldn't know any De La Soul...hopefully this sparks their interest tho!
Was just listening to Gorillaz earlier today. They have some great sounds.
I love 5/4, Dare, and Rhinestone Eyes at the top three for my Gorillaz faves.
Rhinestone eyes definitely no. 1 for me 👏
I will also stan for Rhinestone Eyes
5/4 is great!
@@nicholasboatwright5407 A real banger!
The breakdown of the video is that the characters in the tower, which is shaped like a syringe, are stuck. They are surrounded by drugs, women, partying, all the things that the Fell Good Inc. sell people in the industry. They see their other band mate on the floating island, free and happy floating in the clouds. The two stuck in tower long to be with the rest of their band and free from the temptations of fame and everything that comes with it. It's really powerful since members of the band remain anonymous to most people and let their art speak for itself. Been a fan of the Gorrilaz since I was in middle school. I remember when Clint Eastwood came out and it's all I listened to for an entire summer.
This is a first for me, watching a reaction to a song I've never heard of either. I agree with y'all, this is a vibe. I got to check into this group more myself. Great reaction guys!
Really? Oh dang!!! They have some good songs!!!
Such a huge fan of Del's work in this project. I absolutely love his Deltron 3030 record.
Deltron 3030 is amazing indeed, De La Soul do the rapping in this song though.
When I lived in the UK (Gorillaz are a British band), there was an amazing live stage adaptation of the Chinese story of Monkey: Journey to the West, and Gorillaz did the soundtrack to it. It was a really cool collaboration between a Chinese writer/director and cast and this British band.
The Gorillaz are amazing. The rap group in this song is De La Soul, a great group in their own right from the days at the beginning of Hip Hop. Other great ones by the Goriilaz, Demon Dayz, Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head, Don’t Get Lost in Heaven. The group wanted it to be more about the music. The leader wanted it to not be about him. It was quite some time into the group’s history before we got to see the actual band. All of their videos are cartoons.
The end of the demon days album is almost Sgt pepper esq
These guys have another great track called "Clint Eastwood" that features Del the Funky Homosapien from Hieroglyphics.
Most don’t realize even the vocals are their own instrument in their music. Truly unique in every way.
It is so cool to have Lex's mom on the Couch! Love her reaction!
Gorillaz used to be an exclusive virtual band. From 2000-2010, any “live” performance of theirs consisted of hidden musicians playing the song while the show played on screens on stage. Nowadays, they actually come out on stage to perform. They had a fascinating gimmick and they were good. That’s a formula for success if I ever heard one lol.
Watching this and part of the live stream for it, made me “Feel Good”! Couch Mama ❤️
You probably heard part of the song in one of Apple's iPod commercials. That's where I first heard it, and made me look up the song and download it.
This song will forever be associated with the rollout of the iPod & those white headphones.
Check out Roads or Glory Box by Portishead live from Roseland NYC ✌️
By the way, Gorillaz are an animated band who have collaborated with a lot of artists and rappers over the years. The central figure is a guy named Damon Albarn who fronted a band called Blur who were massive in the 90s (they had a 'rivalry' with Oasis). I'd recommend checking out more gorillaz - 'Clint Eastwood', 'November has come' and 'All Alone' are all awesome ✌️
PPS I think I'm right in saying it's De La Soul rapping on this track 👍
Absolutely just a feel good song. I'll bump this around town all day any day
The lead singer is Damon Albarn from Blur. Blur are a British band from the 90's and 00's and are well worth checking out. Charmless Man, Country House, Park Life, The Universal are a few of their hits.
I love this REACTION! So wholesome and makes me happy! Thanks!
This whole album is a vibe. You should seriously review more.
They should review The Fall.
That's Trugoy from De La Soul providing the rap verse
The guy that does all the art was the creator of Tank Girl. He and Damon from Blur collaborated to create this band. It was their vision to create a cartoon band, so they could always bring in new people without changing "the band".
Gorillaz are an animated band with two reoccurring members being Damon albarn , the singer and former singer of blur and Jamie Hewlett , who is the animator. Everyone who's collaborated with them can be called sort of like honorary members. They've collabed with icons like snoop , mos def , elton john , de la soul ( the rappers in this song ) and so many more. They've had Bruce Willis and Jack Black in their videos also. They just bend genres like it's nothing
An interesting fact is Gorillaz was formed by Damon Albarn who was the lead singer for the band Blur and a comic book artist friend.
You've already react to "song 2" by Blur... it's the same singer. This Damon Albarn guy is f..... talented!
Gorillaz are amazing...you guys should check out Blur....it's the former Band of Damon Albarn...the lead singer of Gorillaz!!!
Wow I had no idea
What a beautiful unique song, absolutely brilliant!
This was a concept album about these characters sailing around (who knows where) exploring music.
I've owned like 5 of their albums and have listened to all of the songs on them several times, lol. I can vouch for this band.
Pretty much every song is good. Most are amazing music to chill too.
Been a fan since 2001.
I suggested Eastwood to my friends in 8th grade then they found out that the singer was from blur and they said f that not even going to listen... dummies
I am addicted to watching their videos....Amazing to see their "virgin" reactions, especially to songs that are so much a part of my history. Blows my mind what all they had never been exposed to...
This was the FIRST digital band. They set ALL later digital performances!
The rappers on this track are De La Soul.. if you are familiar with Tribe Called Quest . They are from the same crew.. Gorillaz also have a song called Clint Eastwood with a rapper named Del the funky homosapien, which is dope .. Gorillaz always have great collabs on their songs
I love that your mom liked this too.. Lex you are so intoned with music and Brad understands most his songs he thinks their from guitar hero😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
The Gorillaz are an animated band. De La Soul did the rap segments here.
Glory box- Portishead- live👏👏👏👏
The band is one guy and an artist. Pure genius. Everything Damon touches turns to gold.
this song has been used in a lot of things, the NFL has used it for commercial break track, its been in a couple video games but its definitely an original track that wasnt made for another thing, its just a hit that blew up. They are known for their cartoon character personas tho its kind of a gimmick but also not really, just a creative thing they do and theyve become pretty iconic for it. Im not huge on them personally but they definitely jam
"You got a new horizon its ephemeral style," is such a bar.
Corrosion Of Conformity's "Clean My Wounds" would make for a great reaction video
Agreed! It happens every time.
The cartoons were actually specifically drawn and made for this band by the same graphic artist who made tank girl.
The Gorillaz is the first virtual band. They are portrayed by a cast of cartoon characters, but the actual performers vary, especially alb to album.
Definitely check out "Dare" & "On Melancholy Hill"
I Love the Gorillaz. i actually have tickets to see them in concert in Sydney this July. Can not wait! 😁
Another really good one from them is 19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)
Basically the lead singer from Blur, "Damon Albarn" created the gorillaz, it's like an animated super group, with all sorts of great artists doing their thang 💯❤️👌
So great, thanks for this moment... Love from France 🇫🇷❤️
Man I haven’t heard this in forever. Thanks for bringing it back up.
The Gorrillaz characters have a rather deep back story. The rappers are the dead friends of the drummer who is named Russell and he's possessed by them. Their back story is definitely worth reacting to also.
Go watch the live version on the Letterman Show. You’ll be blown away. These guys are Uber talented.
Featuring of course De La Soul, but also Mick and Paul from The Clash amongst the band members 👍🏻
THE GORILLAZ "DARE"...NUFF SAID.
Took my son to the O2 Arena for the first concert after the 2021 lockdown. It was utterly euphoric. Never experienced an atmosphere like it.
Gorillaz are actually a band consisting of members from other groups. They were basically a "virtual" multi-media group, hence the animations, yet they pulled it all off live. There was a different animated character for each 4 main members. They used alot of various vocalists & top caliber guest musicians. They crossed lots of genres.
Their videos are almost like an anima series and somewhat tells a story in itself. The entire Feel Good Inc album/videos is like a show itself....definitely a must watch from start to finish. Clint Eastwood is my favorite 👍🤘😎🤘
Live Gorillaz doing Stylo with Mos Def and Bobby Womack, simply magic on stage.
Gorillaz is a virtual band created by a British musician Damon Albarn who was a frontman of Blur (I forgot the name of the animator).
The fictional members are:
2D - Vocals
Murdoc - bass
Noodle - keyboard/guitar/vocals
Russel - drums
Non other than De La Soul doing the rap.
the second half of this video/ song is called El Manana. the video is kind of gritty and sad, but the song is one of the most beautiful songs the gorillaz have ever written
I get to see Gorillaz in September and I can't wait!
The Gorillaz had this long running story with the characters you see in this video. They are a group of very successful artists, all from famous groups who did not want their fame to color the perception of this band. It truly ]was a labour of love, an artistic endeavor .
The gorillaz are a dope group. you can just jam and chill to their music. the music is always fun with them.
They're a virtual band, put together by Damon Albarn of the band Blur and artist Jamie Hewlett. Hewlett does the animation. If you like his style he has a long running comic book called Tank Girl.
My dad went to college in Colchester with the Gorillaz
Every night on the radio station I listened to on the drive home from work, they'd play this almost always at the halfway point to being home. Loved this tune. These guys have talent.
This is made by the lead singer of Blur, you should check them out also.
They have reacted to Song #2 already.
The Gorillaz are a really, really funky group. They dip and dabble into a bunch of genres, sometimes throughout the course of a single song. It's pretty wild. Would definitely recommend "Clint Eastwood," "Dare," "Stylo" and its follow-up "Melancholy Hill."
The guy singing is Damon Albarn from Blur. Another great band. Think you guys may have done a reaction to "song 2" by them.
Gorillaz are a British band formed in London England by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, two other members are also British. They have guest performers on some tracks like this one. 🇬🇧
Yeah for them it has to be there videos as well as the music... Legends
it's a cartoon because its a cartoon band. someone may, in fact they probably have put it in a movie but it originates on Gorillaz original album Demon Days.
Check out Gorillaz Live at the Apollo. The entire album is played and its excellent. It’s a story.
Gorillaz has a guest artist every song and theyre a virtual band. Check out Pacman with Schoolboy Q or their debute song (back in 2000) called Clint Eastwood. Its all a vibe.
I think the windmill part was in the Johnny Deep version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
This band was formed by Damon Albarn in 1998 after he lose the musical Britpop War in 90's with Oasis. His first band was Blur which was a pop type of band and Oasis was a rock and roll so he made a new band called Gorillaz which was somehow give rock and hiphop vibes.
Gorillaz is a concept that came from Damon Albarn (lead singer of Blur) and Jamie Hewlett (creator of the Tank Girl comic). So the animated comic book band fronting it is a key part of the idea. It's not the first, The Archies had a big hit with 'Sugar, Sugar' which was also a fake comic book band.
One of my faves from them, listened to this so much during college
Gorillaz were pretty decent at live shows too. Had some great hits in the UK a while back.
It was used in an episode of House MD.
19/2000 is a very underrated Gorillaz tune off their first album, and a fun video
This is one of the most famous songs ever, you guys have definitely heard it. At least in passing.
This song was used in A LOT of things. Movies, Tv shows and even an iPod commercial (showing my age). The song was everywhere really.
A lot of people are recommending Clint Eastwood and Dare, but I'll add Stylo to the list of Gorillaz songs to listen to.
This is just such a fun fusion of sound. Also, Mama got it! She was unsure at first, but by the end of the song she was digging it. Give her a hug from another old rocker.
The gorillaz are a virtual band and each of theyre songs tell a part of the bands story they were the creation of 2 guys
