I don't get why it the thermostatic stream trap is had as more efficient (zero leak) than the float trap. I am no chemical engineer, but an electrical one that ended up dealing with boiler operation, so there must be something I am missing.
From what I understand the subcooling on the thermostatic is happening on the piping close to the inlet of the trap thus the energy released from this cooling is lost to the enviroment. There will be no flashing on outlet. Feels like I am throwing a ten dollar bill away so I don't lose it. Wouldn't I rather have flash steam into into my condensate line - that will certainly condensate within it, thus recovering the flash steam latent heat energy content as well?
If anyone could answer this I'd be very happy. This has been short circuiting my brain lately.
