While this might be a great camera, let’s not forget about the hands it’s in. Your experience and perspective play a great role in what we see here, and as always, exceptional.
Thanks. That's kind.
I had this camera between 2016 and 2020 (it broke, got written off by Fuji). Now using an X100V but despite the hype surrounding the X100 it is the X70 that I miss. Second hand they're more expensive than when I brought it new!
In your hands the X70 really does shine. Love those images. Such a great video.
Attention Fuji! Kevin's photos perfectly sum up why this camera is amazing and why we need a refresh. I love my X70 more than any other X or GFX I've ever owned. You can carry it in a pocket for crying out loud! An X70 successor would sell like hotcakes with the love the X100 series has now.
I hope they are listening, and we don’t need the latest, greatest high megapixel processor. Not competing with X100VI.
I have the x100v but an x70 or a successor would absolutely be a great alternative. I can have the x100 for a mostly portable camera or the x70 for an absolutely nimble device, I concur with this statement!
The X70 became legendary after Fujifilm ceased production. It became that must-have thing that nobody could lay hands on. Fujifilm knows a thing or two about the fickleness of consumers and I appreciate their cautious approach.
And without video in order to make the price competitive, just a photo camera, please.
My most beloved camera. A true companion I can carry anywhere. And it's good.
It's so good!
That shot at 9:15 is brilliant! I think what this video demonstrates is we don’t need the newest, fastest, greatest gear to nail the moment. I’m increasingly using older gear, and the quality and output are every bit as good as newer cameras, maybe just a bit slower.
I chased this camera forever. It kept going up instead of down in price. I shoot with Fuji and Olympus because of their convenient size. I finally bought an old Olympus EPL 5 to fill the role of the x70. It has a tilt up screen and touch to focus and shoot like the x70, plus I bought an electronic viewfinder that I can snap into the hot shoe. I see a magic in Fuji that I often don't see in my Olympus images. I still lust after the x 70.
Oh @fujifilm "please consider" bringing us a new version of this wonderful gem of a camera. Thank you Kevin for sharing these images here on this channel.
Leaf shutter and built in flash solid EVF mount great colors. Please Fuji…do it again.
Let's hope so!
A camera I will never sell.Truly pocketable.Build beautifully with chunky and crisp dials.Everything can be changed with a twist.Tilt screen et al.Gorgeous.I have mine on show on a shelf in my office and often show people.
Great video Kevin!!. The X70 never gets old!!
Lucky I had the opportunity to grab an X70 lately and I haven't gone out with the GR3 ever since. It has its problems, but what a joy to use this little beauty!
Hopefully there'll be a new version with the same form factor and some upgrades.
Thanks for the amazing video! 🙏
I wonder why Fuji hasn’t done it yet. They are missing a trick. People buy bigger Fuji’s and leave them at home then sell them. We want the power and if the x100v but on our pocket. With IBis, and possibly a view finder. I think it would outsell the x100 personally- but I think is too invested in the x100 to do an x80. I just got the x70 a couple of weeks ago after Ricoh died. The more I pick it up the more I like it. I don’t think I would ever invest in a Ricoh as they break far too easily and are expensive to repair. Great video amazing photos. Congratulations ❤
Thank you for this video, I still love my X70 too, and I really hope Fuji will hear us all and commercialise the X80 !
All the photos were so soothing, the music played it part, and your experience in capturing human emotions as art showed so well.
Thank you :-)
My X70 still going strong. Great little camera that goes in my bag when I want to travel light. Always good to see Kevin's photos for inspiration.
Thanks, Steve
Thanks Kevin, great video and exceptional images. Geoff
Latest statistics show that the Ricoh GR is one of the best sellers in Japan. The X100V has been incredibly popular and impossible to get hold of. It shows that the market for "pocket-friendly" cameras is there and there is a place for the X80. But my biggest suspicion is that Fujifilm doesn't want to give the X100 a competitor.
The x70 80 would have the tilt screen which distinguishes it from the GR. Oh well. To dream
I mainly shoot Fuji gear, but I do love the way my little Ricoh GR handles. (Gen 1.)
But.. but, I just never warmed up to the GR images. Sharp YES. I’ve tinkered with
White Balance and tones but maybe I’m too addicted to Fuji.
Beautiful. Just beautiful work.
Kevin, this is one off best episodes I’ve watch of your , no waffle, beautiful pictures has always and the music is the icing on the cake. Never had an x70 but I always wished the x100 series had a 18mm has standard. My main lens on my xpro2 is the 18mm f2, despite how much everyone seems to hate it.
Somehow it has, of course you probably know about the wide angle adapter that turns the lens into a 18mm f2 lens.
@@ReinoldFZ I do, but it added too much size to the camera for me so I sold it and got the xe4
Beautifully captured moments - great work.
Many thanks!
It’s time. X80. Improved autofocus. All new film simulations. Improved video. Built in ND? They wouldn’t have to do much to update this absolutely terrific camera!! Please, Fujifilm!
Leave the sensor if possible, update the processor.
I have had an X 70 for about seven or eight years and love it. Bought it used and Fuji still replaced the lens for me free of charge when it had a problem. Mine is also pretty beat up from use but keeps on ticking. I have also used the X 10 and X 30 extensively and I must say the X 10 has a quality that is unique. these days. I use an XT 30 quite a bit, but often go to the X 70 just to enjoy packing light when I’m out for the day. Thank you for your UA-cam video.
The one camera I wish i never sold. Fujifilm, please bring back a new version.
Love my x70 and it is a good companion for my trip❤
Shockingly beautiful photos ... yes, this is a beautiful camera, as if it is in good hands. Thanks for the video, I haven't seen such beautiful, emotional photos for a long time.
That's very kind. Thank you.
Посмотрел с удовольствием! Потрясающая детализация снимков. Как всегда приятные картинки, спасибо, что делитесь своим опытом и своим видением !
Beautiful photos and editing to present and showcase them! ✨🎈
Thank you so much!
The pictures put a smile on my face. Thank you.
That's nice to hear. Thanks.
These are beautiful shots. My favorite, and I've seen this or another shot from that wedding, is the family walking toward stonehenge at 7:44. The leading lines and color are stellar.
I have and still use my X30. I feel the same way about it as you do with the X70.
OMG! I carry mine every day!
Really nice tribute! Surprised to see so many shots with the WCL converter which I find to be such a useful and portable accessory. Bravo.
Salut from Canada.
Probably my favourite ever camera. Stupidly sold few years ago then fortunately found another mint condition copy before the prices hiked. Also now have the V too but this little beauty isn’t going anywhere...... some of my favourite photos taken with this little gem. Beautiful piece as usual 👌🫶🙌
The photos are beautiful, as subject matters, but also the Fujifilm feel. What a superb little camera!
Thank you Kevin Mullins for these wonderful fotos. And while I love my other, larger Fujis I most often carry my X-E4, its small and compact and with the 27 mm pancake lens unobtrusive when walking around. Similar in concept to your X70 and I absolutely love it for what it does.
My pleasure!
cracking work, an X70-2 would be good
Great shots. That X70 has been through it!
Great pictures! Absolutely lovely camera. My first Fuji, found it on Facebook Marketplace for about $250 but got it down to $200 (best deal of my life 🥳).
Inspirational series of photos. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I recently picked up this camera and I love it!
X80 oooo! Yes pleeease !!!
Please Fujifilm give us an X80 soon!
Your a photographer! Youve got the knack! Bedazzled by your imageds way to go.
Thank you. That's very kind.
Good to have bumped into this video and see that there are more folks out in the world who resonate with my thoughts for X70. It came and disappeared and I found it difficult to get hold of a copy in the beginning. But I managed to get a brand new at an amazing price just before COVID, and I love my X70. Love the images from it irrespective of what I shoot.
I really liked all of your images but your B&W stuck to me the most. I could also noticed that you are using a lens adaptor quite often. Thats interesting. Your presets are also pretty good ( are there any try before you buy options? )
What's your goto film simulation on. theX70?
This video has changed my life
Nice video and lovely shots Kevin. Since second hand prices for this little beast are off the charts I went with the xf 18mm f/2.0 on my X-T20. Definitely not as pocketable but still compact enough.
Good choice!
My everyday carry! Love this camera so much. I also had an X10 which for some reason didn’t last too long. But my X70 seems immortal. Thanks for doing this video giving love to the X70, and your shots are wonderful!
Thank you!
I've got an XT-3 and had Sony and Canon full frames, but some of my best photos have been made on the X70. Such a great camera. Would buy an X80 in a heartbeat. There is some incredible shots in this vide, but my absolute favourite is the wedding shot at 3:00 - so good!
Lovely images Kevin, I sold mine as I never got over the lack of viewfinder, it somehow makes the shooting process isolated ❤ cheers from Oz 🇦🇺
With you, Kevin. I've long desired an update to the mighty x70. Lovely images, as always.
Fingers crossed!
I'm so happy to have gotten my first ever, new "used" X70 :) It's truly pocketable and I love being able to shoot "from the hip" and finding new angles - a great challenge without an EVF and more use of the flippy screen. One question I had was, have you (or anyone) tried a solution for a little more zoom / tele? I know there's a teleconverter for the X100 series yet not sure about its effects. Any solutions? (Aside from the built-in digital zoom, of course.) Thank you for inspiring us always, Kevin!
Where ever i travel, my x70 always accompanies me. A true pocketable apsc camera.
Fantastic video. You really inspire me with your photos. Are the B&W photos processed in camera or done post? Thank you.
Thank you. These are edited with my own Presets : www.kevinmullinsphotography.co.uk/lightroom-presets-kevin-mullins
Stunningly good photographs Kev.
Thank you :-)
Love my X70. The size makes it every day carry-able, and the flaws make it even better.
Are you primarily JPG shooting yours with some recipes you have shared on your blogs? Your shared images are amazing and I want some of that secret sauce.
Thank you Kevin for this reminder. A treasure of a camera. So small and still very capable. We forget we have it some place somewhere home :-)) I took mine and plugged it to recharge, thank to you. Beautiful pictures indeed. Congrats!
Thank you!
Hell yes I want a new X70 !!! Prolly my #1 dream camera.
It's my favourite camera!
It's a camera for photographers, not hipsters.
I love this little camera more than any other camera that I had in the last 30 years.
❤
Your candid wedding photography is so wonderful. And yes, agree with your affection for this camera. I loved using it for the brief time I had it, but 28 is just not for me unfortunately.
Lovely images as usual Kevin. I'm sure Ricoh must be laughing all the way to the bank given that Fuji and the others have gifted them a whole segment of the market to themselves. To me the X70 was light years ahead of the Ricoh GR in terms of build quality, as your battle scarred warrior shows, and with the versatility of the tilt screen.
I feel Fuji has become a bit predictable with its streamlined product lines and systematic roll out of the same features across each line. How about taking the occasional risk, although I honestly don't think it would be a risk with an X80, I think it has the potential to be a roaring success. Imagine a monochrome X80, dreamland !!! C'mon Fuji, forget the fact the X70 happened not to be a commercial success at the time, be bold and excite us again.
I need Ricoh GR to either become dustproof or lower in used price before I start using it.
- They shall consider!
What a gem this camera.
Gorgeous images
:-)
Vraiment magnifique tes photos 🤩 respect 🙌🏻
Thanks!
Great camera underrated hero
What a seriously excellent series of images.
Thank you!
Tell me this is a Fuji-sponsored teaser because the X80 is coming!!! 💎🙏🏻
100% it's not a teaser and I have as much knowledge about a new version as you do.
I've had my X70 for several years and I'm happily using your presets and settings tweaks, love the results I'm getting. Never got into the Fuji otherwise (wouldn't mind but can't justify economically because my business is based on Sonys), but if the X80 comes out, I'll be getting it. Just hope they won't add any bulk to it...
Thanks and yes, lets keep our fingers crossed :-)
The X70 and the X-T1 share the same sensor, sparking nostalgia for the times I used the X-T1 with a 16mm lens for nighttime photography. The images, especially in black and white, were extraordinary, akin to capturing liquid gold. Such moments underscored the exceptional quality of sensors that remain impressive by today's standards. Regrettably, Fuji decided not to replicate these unique experiences across their other camera models. Indeed, the X-T5 and X100V are commendable cameras that offer somewhat similar experiences, yet it feels as if something essential was lost along the way. The film simulations in our newer cameras are outstanding, but there's a special essence that seems to have vanished. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's missing, but I hold onto the hope that this unique charm might resurface unexpectedly, like an unforeseen wave that arrives with such overwhelming nostalgia and spirit, it's unforgettable.
I must say, I really enjoyed watching that collection, and as you say, a superb camera, but we should not forget the skills of the person whose hands it was in. Cheers Kev.
Many thanks!
February 1. This re-review coming out of nowhere. Could this be a sign the X80 is coming this spring? A little tease? Ha.
Love these fotos !
Thanks!
I don't remember when was the last time I watched your channel. But I do remember your channel and website made me purchased both X70 and X100F years ago when I did my PhD in the UK. I have moved to Bali when COVID-19 was kicking :D. I rarely do photography these days due to my new job as a lecturer. I still love both of them for casual family photo. These cameras prevents me to buy new cameras as I always feel both are still sexy these days and I don't need new fancy cameras to capture my family. One thing tho, I hate the video capability of the camera, so I just bought DJI Osmo pocket 3 last week. Well, now I have a set of simple tiny cameras for both photo and video.
I hope everything is going well in Bali.
Really nice pictures. I only recently sold the X70. It's currently not my focal length. I shoot more in the telephoto range, abstract. But for street etc. it's probably the best camera. You can only get these kinds of pictures with a camera that is as absolutely inconspicuous and underrated as the X70. Have fun with this great camera. Greetings
What a good photographer. Beautiful images in many styles. Yes a new X70 would be nice, with a viewfinder. Panasonic did it with the GM5.
Thanks for watching!
Still a great camera too. My Olympus Trip is over 40 years old and my OM-1 over 50 years old and both still going strong. Old doesn’t necessarily mean bad.
Mine only lasted 3 year. 😢
It was beautiful though. I moved onto the GR III. I'd love to see an X70S.
Sorry to hear that
Didn't even know this existed. Seems like a cool camera, and I think a refresh is long overdue. With the incredible popularity, at least from what I've seen, or street photography, I'm puzzled by the lack of new compact models from historically 'small and portable' manufacturers like Fujifilm, OM System(Olympus), and Panasonic Lumix. I love my Lumix G9 and definitely plan to pick up the mark 2 at some point, but it would be great to have the newer sensor and AF system in a small body, as well.
The X70 is actually the camera that made photography something other than work for me, only three years ago. It made me enjoy taking pictures again. It goes with me everywhere. I am very fond of it. The leaf shutter sometimes sticks these days when i turn the camera on pointed down for instance.. but other than that it still works fine.
I would love and updated X70 with the 26MP X-Trans V and latest AF. 28mm is the perfect focal length for a pocket camera like this.
Absolutely stunning images of people in context with their surroundings using the X-70 & its very wide focal range(s) of 14mm & 18.5mm. How is that achieved with a fixed lens?
It also looks like a great lens overall. I suppose that if you're careful in keeping the camera level, that lens does a terrific job with perspective without much distortion at all... either with architectural features as well as people. Even when you're probably within 5 feet of people to make them appear larger in the frame, they still look naturalistic and without the comically lengthening of body parts normally associated with very wide focal lengths.
You've done an amazing job keeping all of those wideangle elements within each frame uncluttered while still adding a great sense of surrounding context and narrative to each frame.
Well done indeed, Kevin. 🤩📸
Yeah! I'd like to know too because as far as I know, this camera's fixed lens is 18.5mm. So to get 14mm, is there an adaptor lens?
Found it > WCL-X70 wide conversion lens ;)
amazing shots Kevin! May I ask what flash you used for the shot at @5:20 ? Amazing stuff
Great stuff!
Great little camera ... still looking for one ... hv the XE2 that has same sensor and rendering is beautiful
I have always regretted not getting an X70. At the time, I was put off by the lack of viewfinder but wish they’d have another go at it.
It would sell like mad as an X80 or x70ii.
Great pictures! ❤
Thank you!
It rivals anything current cameras. Beautiful images.
Thank you!
I have the older brother, XM1. Which gives you the option to change lenses and users the XTrans I sensor, sans AA filter. So very similar performance to the X70. Took with me to a trip from France, to Germany, to Czech Rep. Absolutely love the images I got. Would I like to see a successor to the X70? Probably not, there's something special about the images you get from the XTrans I & II sensors.
Sorry to say but its not really an older brother. That camera is super entry level and even the photos, colours don't match. I have both.
I had one few years ago, and stil missing this awesome camera.
Yea, it's amazing.
I'm amazed that your X70 has survived for this long! The nearest equivalent was the Ricoh GR, which had a widespread issue of shutter malfunction which eventually renders the camera useless. This occurs around roughly 40,000 images, and the GR II had the same shutter problem. That your X70 is still going after eight years is remarkable.
I have no idea how many shots my X70 has taken but it's got to be many thousands by now.
Excellent shots
Many thanks!
I would LOVE an update with an X80 and would even leave the X100VI out for it....
It has the same sensor as the XT1, XE2 and AX100S and that XTransII renders really nice B&W jpegs. Great little camera and I love mine. Wish Fuji would bring out an X80 though, maybe with a 26mp sensor.
Totally agree!
pretty cool photos! camera is one thing yet shooter's eyes are far more important than the equipment!
Thank you, that's very kind.
Oh I would looove to see updated model with ibis and all other stuff (but I'd like them to stick with 26mp sensor rather than 40mp one)
Was just thinking about how underrated this camera was yesterday!
It’s unobtrusive and pretty much an extension of my arm, shame it was only released for a year
Bravo Man! :)
i would love to see an updated x70, but the xtrans 2 sensor definitely has its charm
Yup. Agreed.
I have the trusty X30. Lovely too for street photography.
Good choice!
I finally found this on a 'good deal' T_T and got it back. The X70 and X-Pro2 are my 'cold dead hands' cameras. I really liked the X100f, but it never gelled with me. I'm more of a 28/50 guy so the 35 didn't do it for me. Amazing camera though. I'm interested in getting the X100VI at some point in the future. I'm thinking with the new sensor, I could essentially shoot it as a 50 and pair it with my X70.
P.S. This old camera definitely has a few drawbacks. I know it's all the rage right now and prices are insane. Be sure it's really something you want before you pay that premium for it. Most prices are over retail for a nearly decade old camera! Please don't pay that. I think Fuji will make a replacement eventually. It will probably unfortunately more of an XF10 replacement, but I'll take it. I would love an X70 with modern AF and a nubbin instead of the d-pad. I would normally die on the d-pad hill, but this camera is too small and cramped for it. The current Ricoh GR destroys the X70 in pretty much every way. But there are a select few of us that need the X70 instead. If your soul is telling you X70 then the Ricoh just won't do it for you.
Hi Kevin. I'm a big fan of your work. I've also purchased some of your presets in the past years. They are fantastic! I'm looking forward to purchasing more. I'm not sure if you are comfortable with this ask. Would you do a video on your thinking process, insights, and approach to taking photos? Maybe go through a few of your favorite photos. There are a lot of UA-cam photographers out there but all they do is talk about "GEAR". Your photographic sensibilities are fantastic. Perhaps you can share a little bit of knowledge with us amateurs who are trying to create work at your level. I know. Big ask. I thought I asked anyway. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
I do have some videos like this already on the channel. But do plan to make some more. Thanks for the kind words.
I drove about 400kms round trip ( it’s Australia) when I found a new copy in a store a number of years ago. Well worth the drive, I love this camera.
And I'm sure it was a pleasant drive in Australia too :-)
