Ok, I have a lot to say about this. First off, at the start the rage feels more subdued than usual, but no less intense. It's the kind of anger where you can instantly feel the venom in his words, despite the tone almost sounding calm, and that is ALWAYS chilling. As someone who hates the movie, this feels like a more successful attempt at what that was trying to do. Second, this version grows like no other version I've seen, like as the lyrics progress more and more of his sanity melts away, until by the end, the power matches even greats like Ball and Cairou. And third, the growl on "I'm alive at last!" That is all for that point. Fourth, the more brief laugh definitely fits this particular performance better then a full on maniacal bellow of a laugh like usual, while still feeling much better then no laugh at all. Overall, this is the standard I will hold more subdued versions to going forward.
The delivery on “the work waits…I’m alive at last, and I’m full of joy” gave me chills. It’s like he’s snapped so much that he finally removes his mask of control.
People get so stuck in their ways that they forget what a genuinely great performance can do for a role. His rendition of this character is what makes it so brilliant
Im seeing him in this show on the 27th of april i was worried because i could not find a decent recording thats more recent because some of the other recordings from the first day were bad but ive noticed he's adapted his speaking/screaming voice more to match the singing more because in the begining he didnt sound like this so this video brought my hopes up a ton thanks so much this just made me even more excited to see the production ❤
Saw ST in February with Aaron , Sutton , and Joe Locke. The acting, singing, chemistry, and timing was SO good. You are sure to love their performances and that of the whole cast. Hard to believe there is only two weeks left of this revival. Enjoy the experience!
I saw it in March. He made so many tremendous choices. And his chemistry with Sutton was “chef’s kiss”…….totally different from Josh Groban (saw him the year before) and equally thrilling!!!!
He may not be a baritone, but DAYUM he can ACT!

exactly!!! part of what makes sweeney such an amazing character is how every actor’s rendition of him is so different
FRRR
RIght? It's okay if he is not your favourite in this role but saying that he did a bad job is just talking crazy
