As a small child by father shoved Gunsmoke and western movies down the families throat as I am aging and almost 60 I have come to appreciate John Wayne and others for the great actors they were in the time and we stay work you have to consider the F1 mentioned interview and his age at the time and the way things were at the time that he gave this particular interview I am more than willing to say he is a great actor in entertains people to this day my personal favorites are Sons Of Katie Elder Rooster Cogburn in the lady True Grit and The Shootist very early favourites include Stagecoach reunions in France with Joan Crawford and many others I am a big Susan Hayward fan as well in later life thank you very much for this factbase look back at how all these people pass because I had another odd theory about cancer surviving Bewitched look at the fact that Elizabeth Montgomery passed away and so did the first Gladys Kravitz Jesus name was Alice Pearce I believe Pearce as you stated Elizabeth Moorhead Agnes Moorehead excuse me died of cancer my theory was that these people were involved in a witch program and perhaps that had something to do with it I love the witch this day that has nothing to do with it it was just an odd Theory I had until I saw this video it proves what life can make you sing sometimes thanks again sincerely Joe Cooper keep on making us interesting facts real videos fans of John Wayne do not let this video change your opinion remember he was born in a different time and we have to respect him for his opinions based on those who were involved in his raising and what went on around him in the time that he live he was a great man and a great actor one opinion should not have taken the display at that school down he should always be honored he worked even with the cancer right up until his death you can't say that for a lot of actors these days they get their money and get out instead of continuing to honor their fans and using your wonderful talent and platform nail I will hush but thank you so much for listening Joe Cooper

I believe that the families should get some kind of compensation for the deaths .

Did the cast & crew have to fight off radscorpions and Deathclaws? That would be an excellent DLC for Fallout! I'd love to see John Wayne blasting away a Feral Ghoul!

Families should be compensated for members died of cancer from exposure to radiation.
Someone approached me to ask me should families have compensation, said yes.

  • @shakalaka7335

Yes they need to be compensated if they have cancer or if the ones who died of cancer had children who were children then and had to be raised without a parent should be compensated especially if they had to struggle without the parent who died of cancer from being on set working. Visitors to thwart no they volunteered to go to the set. People that had no knowledge of a toxic area of work just work those people are

Yes, it sure did not help the health of anyone there. John Wayne could have served in the military film service during WWII but did not. I know his knee was not great, but he could have served in some capacity. It seems he believed he was entitled to special treatment.

Clark Gable, who was 6 yrs. Wayne's senior, served & he was a much bigger star then!
If director John Ford, who was years older than Wayne, also served by making documentaries
then Wayne could have been in his film unit, but he chose to sit out the war in Hollywood!

They should only be compensated if they personally or was the spouse of someone who contracted cancer. If you were a distant relative, you’re outta luck. ie: My great grandfather got cancer, I want money! Um… no.

Compensation can't bring back the dead, but one must wonder how their careers might've flourished. John Wayne as Genghis Khan? Susan Hayward as a Eurasian Princess? I can't fathom anybody paying to see that.

John Wayne smoked multiple packs of cigarettes a day for most of his adult life. Most of these people smoked heavily, and most died of cancer, which is not a surprise. At the time of their deaths, the detection and treatment of cancer is nothing like it is today. Most people with cancer died back then, so it isn't all that big of a surprise. This has been looked at before and there is not statical anomaly detected when you look at the thousands of people who lived in this area of Utah their entire life.

Get off this man you son's of a dog's and let John Wayne have his dignity .
Is this what you want to do is tear down everything that was good before your time?
    Back off pitches.
I for 1 liked the movie's of the old stars and I am feed up with you little chideren picking on all the Greats.

I, for one, have read about this tragedy way before the internet was even a thing. There were many radioactive detonations all over the US during this time. This was going on in my neighborhood in the 1950's where children were playing sports of all kinds and a ton of these children grew up to have cancer and have died.

John Wayne was a great actor and a great human being. He had his opinions like all people do and judging him from an interview, out of context is horse crap. When he was making "The Searchers" one of the local Indian tribes had a little girl become Ill and she needed medical help. Mr. Wayne let them us his private jet and the little girl was quickly taken to the hospital and recovered. God Bless John Wayne, no he may not have been perfect, like all of us, but still a great person. Oh and another thing, no telling how many lives have been saved from the John Wayne Cancer Institute! Started by Mr. Wayne and continued by the tireless efforts of his great family!

I really think John Wayne's Oscar for True Grit was just given because Hollywood had not recognized his earlier work. He was just playing the character he had always played in Westerns by that time. His earlier and some of his later work in movies was better. Jeff Bridges and the Cohen brother made a much better version of True Grit. At least the Cohen brothers realized that Indian Territory(Oklahoma) does not have snow capped mountains.

And the messed up thing was their parents were on set and watched it happen. (Don’t blame them, they truly did not understand) They were filming way after hours that small children shouldn’t be. Seems to me, he could’ve use life sized dummies or smaller stunt sized ppl maybe? He also ignored and went off on the pilot that said he felt uncomfortable flying that low... Vic Marrow was the actor that died carrying them. He’s the father of Jennifer Jason Leigh. You definitely know her if you’re an 80’s baby. That footage is on UA-cam BTW. It was a year or so ago haven’t checked lately and don’t want to.

No one should or needs to be compensated. People of the present laryngitis for mistakes made decades or centuries ago is b.s. as few who ate alive today were involved if at all in any accidents. Plus we had a Cold War at the time, much like the on starting now with the Communist Chinese. At the time public announcements of radioactivity in Utah could have given the soviets information of value. I never dealt in thermonuclear dynamics, shot or paved native peoples on reservations or had a slave. Why would I have to pay for these issues? No one reimbursed me for the time I was kidnapped, shot at, or robbed. I was demoted scholarship monies by being a white male. This whole area should just heal. There are no winners, just put it to bed.
