That was two minutes of fun !! I'm on my seventh MINI (F56 'S'), just for a daily driver. My 'fun' MINI is a 2014 R58 JCW Coupe. Checking through the comments, you've done some very nice work on yours. MINI = Miles of smiles !! Oh & Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 .
geofo60 Geof Harris I love to read comments like yours - much appreciate that! Most members of the Mini community are some really nice dudes! You got a really nice fleet of Minis - i'm a huge fan of the r58 coupe! Have some fun with it! CYA!
Compre un mini 2003 el motor está bien pero me está dando muchos problemas , el motor de la dirección se queda encendido y la temperatura no la marca bien . Creo que le han hecho muchas adaptaciones.
I've driven this model before but I've always liked how the mini r53 feels and sounds. I am being biased though cause I own the r53 mini :D. I like the red on the wheel though and the shifter too.
Daniel Bello - please please please tell me where you got your F1 style rev counter?! I've seen it on a few MINIs and really want one! (The thing that goes from green to red to shift up) id be so happy to get one for my R56 JCW
Any known problems with a 2008 JCW that you might know about? Will likely get one in a couple of weeks, and the usual upgrades? Brakes, coils and exhaust or does the JCW exhaust actually cracle and pop like I see on most videos?
How is it running of you still have it? I am planning on getting one and all the ones I can find are high mileage ones at 130-150-170k. Should I be afraid? Small turbo engines frighten me when at high mileages...
It depends on how well the previous owner looked after the car. Some components with such a high mileage are often worn out or broken. Keep an eye on the timing chain, high pressure fuel pump and turbocharger. I had to replace all of these things on my car, but it works perfectly again.
Hi! I'm glad you like my JCW! I use the brodit proclip for the mini r56 with the iphone adapter. Its a 2 piece solution and you will find them on amazon. The steering wheel is custom made by a company called carsdream. Them guys make a really good job and realize almost everything you want to your wheel..
Yes, i did it by myself! You have to remove and insert the shifting unit from underneath the car. Thats the reason why you should put it on a lift instead of jack stands. Remove the exhaust and the heat shields aswell as the shift knob. Than take it out and put the CAE shifter in and put everything back together in the reverse order. After all that you have to align all your gears with some little screws. The last thing you have to do is to cut you centre console to make it fit the new shifter. Done!
What Tyres are you running mate? Kinda hate to point out the bleeding obvious but doest the road noise really annoy you? Can be heard pretty clearly in the first couple of vids. Unless you've changed the tyres yourself to a chunky off road or snow tyre, im assuming that Mini has cheaped out on the JCW performance rubber? Good brands, ie Pirelli and Conti (Standard BMW fitment) are virtually silent, and im surprised Mini being a BMW built vehicle isn't also fitted with high end rubber? Ive had 3 R50 and R53 Cooper S and was really surprised with the power gains i got from a 19% Pulley Reduction swap, Is the R56 still Supercharged or is it the newer Turbo Engine? I noticed a bit of torque steer in the first clip :) Sweet! My thing was all over the road, couldnt stay in my designated lane 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears! So much fun, and surprised SO many unsuspecting JDM fanboys and V8 Diehards.. Not many WRX owners expect a Mini Cooper to pull 3 car lengths on them.
Daniel seems like you had a lot of fun with your mini's right?! :-) In order to make my mini more capable on the tracks i've done some modifications like rear seat delete and semi slicks - thats the reason why its quite noisy. Standard rubber is Dunlop runflat tire just like BMW. I've reduced the torque steering a lot by installing a new suspension setup with a lot more camber than stock and a new alignment. The turbo engines have a high potential to increase power and much more torque than the supercharged r53's but i have to admit that i miss the sound of the supercharger sometimes ... Thanks for your comment, mate! Have a good one!
This thing is called CAE Shifter and it is a plug and play solution for the mini. Additionally i have installed an 5cm extension to feel more comfortable.
Johnny OrGBravo the throws are mega short and the stick is much longer than the oem stick This gives your hand a position in short distance to the wheel in order to change gears quicker
Freut mich, dass er dir gefällt! Ich fahre momentan die Autec Wizard in 7,5x17 Et38 mit 15mm Spurverbreiterung pro Seite. Reifen sind Federal 595 RS-R 215/40 R17
soup2684 isn't that they are expensive. What happens is everything are very close together (engine, water pump, radiator, etc...) and take really long time and work if u want to fix something. And of course always mini need that special tool to remove something hahah. Mines is a r53 and I have learned to have patience with hahah. Get one they're fun!!
adolfo aguilera I have a r50 (upgraded with performance exhaust etc) but have also had to spend some money on maintenance recently. Have just been told by garage that it needs another £1400 (I am in the uk) doing on it. This is so it of money for me. I love my car and I have o my had it for a year. It's only just now started costing me money.
I recommend this shifter to be used on the circuit, but of course you can also install it in a Cooper for driving on the road. The installation is complex because the exhaust and the heat shields must be removed. The shifter can be inserted from below. Of course, the center console has to be milled out in order to fit the shifter. As you can see, this is not so easy to do.
@@DanielBello Nah thx, a dsg will beat any manual in everything it does, yes also at engagement and if that isn't engeging enough I'll take my c63, s204 model ofc because I like N/A engines. A mini which is basically bmw shift realy good from factory, never understood why people buy these overpriced but especially ugly cae shifters. I had a lotus s2 also and people seem the put cae shifters upwards to 2500euro in them whilst I just upgraded a couple of other thing for 1/4th of the money and it probably shifted better and looked 10x better also.
I have a clubman S and must say in the year of owning this car I had a hand full of people wanting to start fights thinking a small guy/girl was driving the car. I get out and they drive off..lol It always starts with somebody cutting me off and then they will pull the finger or cut me off slam the brakes ex never had this happen with other car/trucks I owned in the past.
He wasn't pushing it hard. If you notice he was riding the torque, shifting between 4 and 5K rpm. MINI's are really quick when you get on them, especially tuned ones.
In a year i almost lost my driver license a few times... They really need to make the speeds on hwy's faster it's not 1950's cars stop better everything is better todays cars

Great video. For someone (me) looking at buying one it's great to see this sort of perspective. Cheers.
Great Vid thanks! I've buyed a Cooper D (r56) a month ago, I know that's not a JCW XD, but I'm enjoying a lot the car.
Compre un mini 2003 el motor está bien pero me está dando muchos problemas , el motor de la dirección se queda encendido y la temperatura no la marca bien . Creo que le han hecho muchas adaptaciones.
Even though its not fast it looks like such a blast to drive.
TechNick oh yes, it really is! On a track like the Nordschleife you'll be very competitive in this Mini.
Its my favorite car.
Love the high speed run, nice work.
Dat shifter :D
Excellent video. Nice camera view.
Cris Tonning Thank you so much!
Hi, lovely car. Could you tell me what is the LED rev indicator behind the Center portion of your steering wheel?
Cheers!
Can't beat a bmw interior man the best
What a shifter mate!!!!! :D
Nice vid, love the exhaust note! More vids pls
S K thanks a lot! I've just uploaded a new video...
Very nice! Any exterior shots?
Great video! Have you ever compared the R56 JCW to the R53 JCW? Im a former R53 owner and would be interested to hear your thoughts!
Looks like a ton of fun to drive. Germany? I miss living there sometimes!
kbyon37 absolutely! It's so much fun to take it on the track or drive it on twisting roads...
I've driven this model before but I've always liked how the mini r53 feels and sounds. I am being biased though cause I own the r53 mini :D. I like the red on the wheel though and the shifter too.

Fraser Robertson this is a Factory Part, but it's no longer for sale. Perhabs you'll find a used one on ebay.
Sucks they stopped making them. I been looking for a year with no luck. I also had no clue it was factory install...
Ah thank you man, so gutting they don't make them anymore! Looks so sick!
@Heads Up - If you find a place that has them at any point, please let me know!?
lol it will be on my car

take a look at the timing chain. The tensioner and the chain are common weak spots. There should be absolutely not rattle or other unusual noises.
How is it running of you still have it? I am planning on getting one and all the ones I can find are high mileage ones at 130-150-170k. Should I be afraid?

Daniel Bello thanks! I believe they are a European company, so maybe bit pricy to go to and from UK but will check them out thanks :)

What about the wheel? Is it stock? Like that leathery look
Francisco Escobar it is fully wrapped in alcantara! Good for gloves!
Daniel Bello care to elaborate? Did you do it yourself? Any link to the store. Looks very nice
Francisco Escobar from time to time you have to give it a wash with a brush and a little soap - thats it!
I got mine from carsdream.com
