- RIP Bob!
Yet another Blockbusters clip, but it just oozes coolness. From the utopian model city and hexagons flying down a corridor in the title sequence to host Bob showing off new additions to the set, you just know you're in for a brilliant quiz. Here's a nice lengthy clip of the first show of the 1992 series thanks to Challenge. Garfield included. - Розваги
Give us an R I P please Bob.
Great memories from my childhood watching Blockbusters after I got home from school!
God speed!
RIP Bob holness I will definitely gonna miss you after wonderful years as host on blockbusters
Indeed, I used to come home from school in 1983 and watch it.
Great memories watching this quiz show.Bob Holness was a brilliant presenter.RIP Bob and thanks for the memories.
I worshipped this how as a kid. tnx for posting.
This was just a fantastic show. Such great memories this brought back to me. Rest in Peace, Bob, a real true gentleman.
This was a great show. Fond memories of after-school escape watching this.
Great show to watch when growing up as a kid!...RIP Bob
I used to love watching Blockbusters as a youngster and enjoyed getting the answers right. Bob was a real inspiration, he had great rapport with the contestants and will be sadly missed. These are the type of programmes which should be screened more often instead todays youngers are watching trash like the X Factor with Simon Cowell revealing his hairy chest.
Bob was quick and smooth but without being unctious.. he managed to make a quiz for teenagers that was actually liked by teenagers.
The questions were well balanced as well.
Thanks for uploading this. I'm guessing this be as good as we get seeing Blockbusters as Challenge have no plans to re show it :(
I can't believe it! I decided to read his biography a couple of days ago just because I hadn't heard of him for so long, and now he's dead! I miss Anything Goes.
In the past few days, I was researching and compiling videos of programmes I watched as a child on my UA-cam channel. Blockbusters was one of these. I have clear memories of this gameshow. I still remember the ending's hand-clapping dance moves!
RIP
Gotta say, that is an AWESOME intro
Damn, those gold runs were intense. Thanks for the memories Bob.
Yes, please do. Amazing to see how this whole quiz hasn't dated or lost its shine at all!
Bob you were an icon during the 1990s when this was on and I was doing my A Levels and University Degree. Only seems like yesterday, life is too short. RIP.
For the last few days I have been watching Blockbusters, or should I say playing it, with my son who is at last old enough to love it. Thanks Bob, so many great memories with my brother after school and now with my son.
@lombmusic07 my mum used to watch blockbusters and its one of my favourite Quizshows.
R.I.P. Bob Holness (1928-2012) =-(
This brings back treasured memories...this and Countdown with Richard Whiteley :)

Rest in Peece Bob!
Teatime viewing in our house in the 80s! R.I.P Bob Holness.
RIP Bob. So strange, I watched an episode of Blockbusters yesterday for the first time in like 15 years.
R.I.P Bob Holness
I remember trying to play this....and getting every thing wrong.
RIP Bob...
Rest in Peace
RIP Bob
I had a Science teacher just like him!
MAAAAAAMM!! GOLDRUUUNN!!!
I'll have an R.I.P. please Bob.
For us who grew up in the 80's we won't forget the "double entendre'" like "Can I have a P please Bob" but for us 80's kids we won't forget U. R.I.P Bob Holness
+Simon Lee I'm a 90s kid and i always Laugh at that joke
one of the best quiz shows but it would not be the same without bob
an icon.
I would agree with you there. Even though it was Americans who created the game, the original version in the US pales in comparison to this. Bill Cullen was an alright host, but he was already pretty old by the time Blockbusters came around.
God bless you, Bob.
how good was this show! and why is it not on now wicked format..they need to bring it back in homage!!
r.i.p.
Lead guitarist on deep purples first Album, saxophonist on Baker Street and also played the metronome on sgt pepper.
Other facts about Bob, he played James bond on the radio and made cameo appearences in Dr No, Moonraker and you only live twice.
He was considered for the part of 'Flint'
Legend! RIP BOB
RIP BOB! U WAS THE LEGEND!!!
Loved the theme song.
Can i have an RIP please bob... You were a legend. Say hello to elvis....Thank you very much.
That's Numberwang!
The music, oh god the music!!!
RIP Bob Holness. Who's going to play the saxophone now that he's gone?
R.I.P Bob Holnes. A remake of Blockbusters will not be the same without you :'( I just hope that Vernon Kay doesnt host the remake if there ever is going to be one, he will just kill it off as it wont be as exciting as the original Blockbusters was!
So sad, great James Bond
Can I Have A R.I.P. Bob.
Ha ha... That's me winning the goldrun...
@kcirdrab Its main 5.10pm Time slot was taken over by Home and away. thus many ITV compaines were having trouble founding slots to broadcast the series. when it was axed in late 92 it took some ITV stations until Dec 93 to clear there backlog... ITV tried it could have easily found 3 slots ( one being a Saturday) to broadcast this great show
Rest in Ps Bob and the rest of the alphabet!! A true Gent xxxxxxxxxxx
The new contestant Sharon looks like a young Amanda Holden.
I will try and upload a few more episode intros in the future.
LOL!
im going to make a facebook group saying bring back blockbusters
4:08 - 4:16 Contestants have 8 seconds to put themselves on the hot spot.
Simon Mayo is taking over the Challenge revival. Not sure how I feel about that. I think the bottom line is, nobody will ever come close to Bob Holness's standard.
These school kids look like they're about 30.
@jamesfish18 Either him or Alexander Armstrong. Both are on enough TV gameshows.
@mrminsterley my mate baz said this to me earlier and I didn't have a clue what he was on about. Bob Holness did not play the sax solo on Baker Street. What's going on??
He played a Baker on Saxophone Street
Can I have a P, Bob ?
@trimmytrab He's not, although he was the first James Bond (on a radio adaptation)!
"Can I Have A P Please, Bob?"
@shazronnie Pleased to meet another contestant on a gameshow then uploaded onto youtube
@TheZubin66 "Were"... hehe.
Vernon Kay will bring this back one day, you wait and see it will happen.
Was he off to play cricket after this?
if the people behind blockbusters wanted to keep it 1 vs 2, they should have had 1 vs 2 on a 4x8 grid instead. or better still had had 1 vs 1 on a 4x4 grid. or had 2 vs 2 on a 8x8 grid (numbering same lettered squares if more hexagons than letters in the alphabet)
Frankly, all of the other remakes of Blockbusters post-1994 were game show blasphemy in my eyes, let alone a new remake planned for this year. NOBODY can match the devastating combination of smooth and friendly host Bob Holness, the awkwardness of Thatcher-era sociology students and the retro brilliance of those bright hexagons.
lol, what a horridious prize.
@trimmytrab I had to check to this... not true.
Are "gold runs" a slang word for pissing down your own leg???
no wonder the double team with the blue hexagons won most of the time. i know bob holness passed away so no disrespect to him. but he chaired a silly quiz :(
One of the best opening sequences to any game show, ever. Incredible CGI for the time.
What was the similar progamme on the other channel at the same time and presented by a woman?
Sir Justin Bieber to host this cool show.
bob is now living in a retirement home
@623058 urmm no hes not haha
@CollossusGFX Well It's just I thought if you were joking that would be too lame/pointless of a comment to make, I know to give you less credit next time :-D, byeeeee! :-D
@shazronnie No your not i am and i can't believe your on youtube pretending to be me !!!!
@shazronnie You're Hot !
most stupid quiz show ever. the double team with the blue hexagons has to get more hexagons than the single player with the white hexagons. but the amount the double team has to get is less than double the amount the single player has to get (5 not 8) with the single player needing 4 hexagons. this gives the double team an unfair advantage :(
RIP Bob
