Your videos are wonderful! As a bass, I find many of these tips for resonance and brightness actually help me access my lower range with more smoothness and presence, all for less effort! It's miraculous, really. My voice feels free after several years of feeling like I have to struggle
there’s a wonderful interview on UA-cam with Maria Gentile that reveals an incredibly well-placed and resonant speaking voice, full of harmonics even in simple conversation.. much like Salvatore.
Interesting how I learned more watching Fisichella and Jack Livigni videos than with all my singing teachers lol. But the thing that helped the most for me was listening to Lauri-Volpi and Gigli and studying them.
Thank you! Thank you Jose! Fellow tenor here. You are an excellent teacher, you will help many singer. And what a gift to share what you have learned from a tenor legend.
🥰 Thank you Maestro!!! Your invaluable information is absolutely incredible!!! I very much relate to the frustration, however, your explanations always allow for me to build upon my technical ability!!!! I am so very grateful!! 🎙🎶♥
I cannot thank you enough for all the wonderful teaching you share on your channel. I recently started studying voice in college and this is a big help
What an excellent explanation Sir thank you very much. Most of my unanswered questions which I had in mind for years but no one to seek help from. Truly appreciate it! 🙇🏽♂️
Thank you so much for making this available to non-paying pedestrians such as myself 😁 I look forward to delving into this and learning everything I can! ✨
Gracias José por compartir tan generosamente esa sabiduría vocal de los grandes. Sobra decir que es la única escuela certera. No solo buscar sonidos estrepitosos... Buenos si no la belleza, es el arte en la voz. Bendiciones
Thank you so much. From sri lanka. I've been watching and practising and integrating your insights from the first videos of tenor talks. These are very valuable for me. ❤❤
Funniest thing is that every single concept and exercize mentioned here is taught in contemporary rock/pop techniques as well, with the notable exception of lowering your larynx on inhale (instead they teach a speach level larynx).
A suggestion is to interview a young baritone such as Ricardo José Rivera, just to see what is a baritone's approach to singing as it compares to that of tenors. It was super funny when you mentioned the "walking pressurized tanks". Agree with you 100%. The thing is how to manage all the pressurized air. And you explained that masterfully. 😆👍
Baritones should sing with the same technique as tenors. The only thing that is different is where the passaggio is (for most baritones they should cover at E natural, whereas tenors should cover at F# generally).
Dear José, I do have a question about the tongue. I do see that good singers (including you ;) retract their tongues upwards without stressing it when singing high notes. I believe it's helpful for 2 things : 1. Keeping the root of the tongue out of the throat 2. Helping the air hit the "ceiling" behind and above the soft palate. The evident problem that thinking about the tongue would create stress for some people. For myself when I sing countertenor it's helpful to have the tongue kinda high and free of tension, close to the middle or back soft palate, so my air goes more easily above. I think it also helps with cord closure while of course leaning on the breath without stopping it. Any thoughts? 🍀
I’m a rock singer, always have been, but lately I’ve been diving into the rabbit hole of operatic vocals. My family is also Italian, so some of this exploration has been inspired by my ancestral roots. All that said, your channel has been so helpful and fun to explore a different way of getting into my voice and technique. Great work 😌
Great video! A gem! Q. I’ve been exploring singing by “drinking the air” and letting the air go out as if it’s a vapor. It feels effortless but do feel the lean of the air is in my lower back. When I video myself I can see the tummy tucked in by focusing on leaning the air in the back which really engages the entire intercostals (including epigastric area).
@@nielsaerts9971 Cold be his initials are GM. Not hard to find under "Old School of Singing". Jose's imitation was right on - loud voice without any beauty!
@gerardbanning3969 ah I see. There is indeed something a bit strange about his voice. Still a lot better than mine though, haha! But I guess it would be better to keep getting my info from José (and my voice teacher)...
Jose, mi piace il tuo insegnamento, anche se e gratuito, un giorno vorrei prendere lezioni di apprendimento ma al momento voglio la fondazione di opera e flagealet.
28:18 A-Ha! I remember telling you in the Snarl video to try and smile a bit more with the corners of your mouth. Guess Maestro Fisichella agrees with me ;). Great video as always, even though I'd really advise you to go back to Fisichella whenever you can because you got the right ideas but you need more practice to really incorporate them. For example 37:15 Beware of tongue retraction! And don't open too much. The sound risks getting too heavy. Looking forward to seeing you become the best opera singer in the world.
I’m not grasping the whole concept of breath support…. Do you “push” in; out; up; down; not push at all? I get keeping the ribs out but what do you do after that? Are you pushing more air out in addition to the air used/lost from speaking/vocalizing? What about someone that has tight abs from working out? How hard is the push? Please help. I’m lost….
Language barrier shouldn't be, spanish and italian speakers can talk in their own pronunciation and language to each other and be understood just fine. They are mutually intelligible. Could even talk to Salvatore in the spanish pronunciation and be just fine. But of course it's also nice to figure out how to say things in the other language and use it but as such the language barrier shouldn't be there, not for these very similar languages, also in pronunciation. Now portuguese that's more difficult to understand due to the pronunciation even on paper they too are very similar but when spoken there indeed could be some barrier
Your detailed teaching is a great help to me. I also appreciate your needed words of encouragement. I begin lessons again this weekend.
Wonderful! This is truly the best. Thank you ❤
Jose, can you make a interview with Giancarlo Monsalve 🙏 it must be interesting ❤

Your teaching method really resonates with me!

Giancarlo Monsalve is a joke. A loud voice and no one can hear it. Like Jonas Kauffmann.

“squeezing the lungs out of the air”
@@JillyCookeMusic words are hard…haha. “Slowly Squeezing the air out of the lungs” was my meaning!
I think 6 chambers. The lungs and therefore the chest are also included
You should do a session with Roberto Alagna. He has the stretched larynx for sure

Jose for "narrow laryngs" means the same of "chord closer"?
The membership is so pricey. I can not afford it 😭
Does he speak English at all? He does work with a lot of American singers in summer opera programs

Te parece que los Argentinos hablan en una manera parecida a los Italianos, en terminos de lo que describis acá? O sentís una diferencia?
