I had actually considered both of these cars as my first car back in Dec, 2021 as I had a budget of around 12 lacs. I test drove both of them. Back seat space, ride quality and the crash test rating of tata punch were the main driving factor for favouring tata punch amt over Kia sonet turbo petrol IMT. I proudly own Tata Punch now and even I drive over speed breakers at higher than normal speeds to impress the nay sayers about the punch's suspension setup and ride quality. Yes, the 1.2 lt NA petrol engine of tata punch won't make you grin with joy, but for day to day driving it won't bother you either. Good to see my reasons being conformed by reviewers as well.

Punch vs S Class next. Merc S Class is very good but very expensive. You can buy 30 Punches for 1 S Class. So, Punch is much better and value for money 😅
Punch is absolutely no comparison to the Magnite, that's why. It has better engines, a better automatic transmission, it's priced similarly and has more or less the same features. You can't say stuff like, "The punch is worse, but it's cheaper". Even compared to the Ignis, the punch falls short. It's not as good a car as the media is making it seem.

It is not even as much of a good value as people are making it out to be. You don't get any of the nice features in the punch if you don't get the top end varients, which takes the price higher than the altroz. Even a tiago makes more sense than a punch. Get the NA petrol altroz, even that is much better value than the punch. The punch hype is a media created thing, and people shouldn't fall for it.
TATA has made many wrong decisions with Punch especially when paying 10 lakhs plus for a car, I would definitely expect a driver armrest and rear ac vents and the worst part is door locking system of TATA. They should provide the two step door unlocking system instead of that single door lever which is very risky when children are in the car.
You can have a 3rd party arm rest installed. That is not a big deal. Rear vent ac for two rows you never need as punch air conditioning even at 1 chills down the cabinet. Else look for altroz

The build quality of magnite and suspension are inferior to Punch. Yes punch is underpowered but it's better suited for indian roads.. Punch feels like it will take some beatings.
I own the Kia Sonet (top trim diesel auto) which I absolutely love. The Tata Punch honestly is the best car you could get in the price range. However love both of these cars ❤️. Buy Punch if you're tight on budget, no use in buying lower models of Sonet. Buy Sonet (from HTX+ and up) only if you can afford it... Both these cars will satisfy with no room for disappointment. Lack of sunroof in the punch is frankly not a deal breaker.
Punch anyday... Tata Punch punches above it's weight, Ride quality is superb ,I had driven my friends new Punch two months back. Now see the monthly sales,it reached 10,000 units. Sales would touch 15000 units if Tata launches iturbo and iCNG versions.

Value for money on longer run is sonet as it's diesel engine and punch petrol engine ain't giving you mileage and will make you pay more, example sonet milege is average 24 and can go higher cos my brother has it. Punch is 17 on an average for 1 lakh km you spend as per today's diesel price in Bangalore 360000 , for punch you spend almost 591000 as per today's petrol price and you save 3 lakh every 1 lakh km with additional features. Services and spares are also cheap for this car.
If you buy a feature loaded car with super cool engine and DCT transmission, but a bit lower in ride quality in typical Indian roads, I say, your money is wasted !!! On the other hand, if you have a car with avg engine, avg transmission, avg features, but superior ride quality and comfort in Indian bad roads, you are happy and you got the true investment !!! More than 95 % of Indians if that have money they will but only foreign cars. Even if they see some good Indian cars in lesser price also they will not buy because Indian think foreign cars are more value.
I was considering SONET & NEXON before PUNCH launched. I get around ₹1 Lakh off on SONET in my area but still went for PUNCH. Here's why, 1. Automatic was compulsory for me (for family members, & automatic just makes life a lot easier) - SONET's options are way pricier than PUNCH's. 2. I liked both the exterior designs & was fine with either. Interior was also good in both & PUNCH actually felt a little better. 3. Safety was an important consideration. People drove cars without airbags too, but times are changing. 4. SONET has lesser engine noise. PUNCH has better ride quality and bearable engine noise. [5]. SONET definitely has the better ENGINE. I'm an enthusiastic driver and definitely not a light footed one, and clearly felt the difference. But, the roads, traffic, speed limits, ridiculous fines, senseless drivers on roads, rocketing petrol rates ( + mileage concerns) and all other stuff has got me pretty PISSED OFF lately. After my test drive, I realized that I would hardly feel the PUNCH's performance lacking in most scenarios.
Speed limits are ridiculously low, at 40 Kmph, in city. I see 60 Kmph limits throughout locations on NATIONAL HIGHWAYS and they start fining at 80 Kmph sometimes. All kinds of stupid rules are in place to CHOKE anyone who questions. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy my car? A couple of thousands of FINE a few times would kill a common man's spirit.
