This movie was a flop financially but I adore it. Julie Andrews is utterly and absolutely spectacular. Daniel Massey's Noel Coward is delicious and the musical numbers couldn't be more fun.

Fun fact: To film this scene Julie said that she never filmed a drunk scene before this one and decided to spin around to get dizzy before a take and the more she did it the more she had to spin round and round because she would get used to it too much.

I don't get it! This is phenomenal! Julie is brilliant! Love the storyline & the star is the brightest here enter was , is & will be in Hollywood. Ppl in the 60's bracketed Julie in musicals , they were not ready for her image to change. I absolutely love her in this movie!

came out the wrong year, 1968, and audiences then did not relate to it. it's reputation has grown since then. Julie in the drunk scene is very good and skillful, and the numbers were very good, but Gertrude Lawrence meant nothing to movie audiences then, so it sort of tanked, although i saw it twice. but, oddly, Barbra as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, even then, the same year, when big movie musicals were in decline, was better received, so...

I also love this film. It came out right on the heels of "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music." People didn't like to see Julie Andrews in this type of role. They were used to her goody-two-shoes image. This problem plagued her through most of the 70s and her career took a bit of a nose dive. It wasn't until she appeared in Blake Edwards' comedies (10, SOB, Victor/Victoria) that she re-emerged as a credible actress. Most of the dramatic work she did in the 60s and 70s was eclipsed from those two hits at the beginning of her career. Typecasting is a pretty horrible thing.

This movie went nowhere. They even released it under a different title, "Those Were The Happy Times."

This scene should have been played a little bit more like Gertrude Lawrence or slightly like 10% Tallulah Bankhead but this characterization does not suit Julie Andrews at all. However the musical numbers were interesting.
