Although do keep a close eye on these type of candles with the napkins because I did that one year. The paper round the candle caught fire. Thankfully it was in the kitchen on granite. Yes, it was a pillar thick candle with 1 wick.
Hi Michele,
I'm curious, did you burn the candle to the edge? Or did it have a thick wall? Did you have a thick slab of granite to put under your candles, or was it just your granite countertop? I'm scared of starting a fire from a candle and tend to take extra precautions. So very curious. Was it the same thing she just showed, a thin napkin? Or the sheet music one?
Thank you in advance for your information, and help.
Take care, stay safe, have a nice day.

Hi, glad to explain.
I did the exact procedure with the decorated 1 ply napkin on a 3" diameter/6" tall white pillar candle. It was a lot of fun to make! I made a few for decor, but only lite one.
I had the candle on a candle plate sitting on our granite island near the stove top by Christmas decor. I left the candle burning while doing things around the house and cleaning so I was going back and forth.
What happened is that the wax wall/sides caved in towards the middle of the candle just enough to catch the flame and the waxed paper was on fire. Scared me bc it was near Christmas decor.
So lesson learned. I still have the candle as a reminder.
Lesson, once the walls/sides are forming as the wax melts, use a knife to cut them down to avoid the sides to curl in. It's cool to see light flickering through the waxed napkin, but that's when it gets dangerous. It's wax and paper which is flammable. So be safe and cut the sides down and don't burn too long.
You can also put the candle in straight tall glass vase (hurricane stylr) as extra protection or pretty clear jars. This will help contain, just in case.
I'd like to try this on battery operated waxed candles too. But, be sure it's a pattern you like bc they last much longer.
I still light the candles, BUT I am extra cautious and trim the edges
Hope this helps and happy crafting!
Thank you. I was wondering about the paper catching on fire.
@@michele1442 Hi!
Thank you so much for the information. Greatly appreciated.
I was thinking about decoupaging a battery operated candle with some Mod Podge. That might be safer for me, I'm a bit of a klutz. Hurricane season would roll around and if I needed a candle I might forget to take enough precautions for the decorated ones.
Thanks again!
Take care, stay safe, have a nice day.

I'm SO glad I kept reading comments, cuz all I could think was that the paper would burn! I bet the battery candles are waxy enuf to do this application, but safely. Never leave a burning candle unattended!! I'm glad u were right there when it happened!!! ✌💙
The candles are beautiful. Easy to make to coordinate with holiday decor, too.
Yes, indeed! I like the holiday idea.
Brilliant idea about the napkin getting absorbed in the candle with heat.
Hello 👋🏻 Julie! TYFS - I love this idea! 🙄 I do have a couple of questions 🤓.
1. About how long do you “warm up” your candle for & at what temperature on your hair dryer?
2. Have you ever used a “heat gun” to do this?
3. Have you ever used some wax paper to wrap around the candle & napkin before heating to seal it?
I saw someone use the wax paper method on a battery operated candle with a napkin & photo so, I’m wondering if you had ever tried it & if so, could you tell me why you prefer the method you shared today?
4. Do you need to be concerned about the napkin catching on fire 😳 if you actually use the candle?
I’m trying to figure out if they’re now just a decorative piece?
5. If these beautiful candles are now “just decor”, do you need to seal them with anything to keep them looking beautiful or is the “wax layer” that they have now good all by itself?
Again, THANK YOU 🙏🏻 so much for sharing such an affordable, beautiful, & certainly “gift-able” idea! I also thank you in advance for any answers that you can give me. I’ve just searched for your UA-cam channel, DandelionsandPoppies, you have a new subscriber 😁!
#4 is my concern also😐
Dollar Tree and Amazon have battery operated ( some with remote control) flickering candles that I prefer over real fire any day
I was wondering about number 4 as well. Otherwise, a fantastic idea.
@@lt2339 are they kind of waxy on the outside so that the blowdryer works to stick on the napkin, or...?
After googling #4 apparently not ☹️ But very beautiful indeed.
Oh the ideas with even a dollar tree battery candle and a beautiful napkin!!
Judy, I am so happy I watched this as it came up in my feed! This decor treatment is fantastic! Thank you! 👏👏👏
I have to try this idea. Wonderful project. Thank you
What a smart & cool lady to think of this!
Nice. Looks easy. Thanks for sharing!
What a simple but lovely idea... Beautiful and versatile! I'm going to pick up some candles and give this a go... Thank you 💜
Thanks for great idea. Also very good instructions- super easy to follow. (Everything thing sounds better with a British accent!! Haha)
Ach it’d be even better with a lilting Scottish one 😉🤭
What a wonderful way to decoupage on a candle! Just love it. Thank you~❣️
ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!!! I can imagine a table set with everything matching....soo beautiful!!
Thank you for being concise and clear with such a wonderfully simple project.
The candles are beautiful and I didn't realize how easy. Loved the video!
Is it flammable when the candle burns? I mean does it cause the napkin to flame on its own?
I was wondering too.
Remember to use varnish to make the candles flame retardant 😊
These are for decoration only, not safe to burn. But when you want to burn it, just heat up the sides and take the napkin off.
Yes it is flammable, l made one, l placed it in the lounge lit and went out of the room for a few minutes, l returned to see the candle completely in flames!
Loved your instruction. So complete. Definitely going to try. Thank you
I love this idea!!!
I love 💕💕💕 it!!!
Pretty neat idea. I think I've seen something similar done like this before using colored tissue paper.

Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing.
This works great with tissue paper too! Beautiful!
Wow so easy. And you found some lovely napkins too.
I'm going to have a go at this super idea.
Brilliant idea woman, thank you for sharing ! hugs from Canada
Love this!!!!
Never seen it done like that...definitely trying this.
This is so 90's. Unforgivable!!!!
These are wonderful and I'm sure you are VERY correct - I can see where they'd be most addictive! I was waiting for you to whip out the Mod Podge, then when you melted the wax under and over the candle...🤦♀️🤷♀️. Thank you for showing this to us. I will definitely be decorating up candles of my own. Smiles from the Southern California desert, MK 😁🏜
Beautiful
Easy peasy. What a great idea.

These are lovely!
You have inspired me to have a go! Thanks!
Can these candles be lit or are they just for decor? Either way they are beautiful!
Yes, they can be lit. It's just ink.
Wax burns
I was wondering the same thing. Someone posted in the comments that hers caught fire as the candle sides softened and turned in towards the flame. She advised to cut the softened edges off with a knife to keep the top level
@@cinnamon-spice I used to make these in the 90s with my grandma. We never had any issues...but I can imagine people today need disclaimers to make them be careful, lol.
Fire hazard. The paper can wick the wax and burn.
Beautiful! I love that idea!
Love this idea!
