It really always breaks my heart how afraid Mr. Robot is of Elliot not trusting him, how he was born out of Elliot's desperate need to have someone safe he could count on who would love him unselfishly. He was too young to process what his dad did to him or have the ability to stop it, so he wrapped a mental shield around himself to survive. The show really does a powerful job of unfolding those layers of trauma in his life and finding a way to his healing, especially through reconnecting with Darlene as a symbol of him accepting his past and who he is.
Well put! I've never watched a show that dealt with mental trauma so well (I welcome recommendations :D) Nothing was forced for the story's sake. Mr Robot is a beautiful show that everyone should watch.
@E Van Fight Club is another great example. I remember watching this movie in the theater and rewatching it after the reveal. David Fincher is a genius.
This is one of the most emotional scenes in the entire show, the song is a fine addition too. I wonder if we will ever have another show that have deep meanings on its characters and that portraits hacking in a credible way... hope so.
"I can't do it." A simple line that speaks volumes. This is such a powerful scene, one of my favorites of the entire series. Thank you for uploading this and so many other great clips!
This scene is a masterclass in every aspect of cinematography, the last scene is specially heartbreaking, just think about it for a moment, this scene is just "Elliot" crying in the dark and saying "I can't do it" to himself, Mr Robot does not exists and there is no one there with him, he is just breaking, crying and hugging himself and he is completely alone.
Jeez, I cry every. single. time. This is not a show, it’s a freaking movement - a series that helps heal broken people. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
There is something deeply poetic about this show, you have to be really conscious of the human feelings to create such a work of art. Thanks Sam, Rami, Christian for this scene
It's worth remembering that, even though it's obvious, that Mr Robot was also a victim of that child abuse. He's embodied as what Elliot thinks a dad should be, but he was still a personality operating out of the brain of a child at that point. Like in season 2, Mr Robot comes out to take the abuse that Elliot can't handle, and was likely present when Elliot was being abused. Don't forget that Mr Robot was likely trying to kill himself and Elliot when he jumped out the window because the pain was too much for both of them. It's weirdly heartwarming and depressing how in the end Elliot is being comforted through his pain by Mr Robot, but really it's just a coping mechanism and in reality he's going through it alone.
I don’t think he was trying to kill himself when he jumped out the window he just tried to escape the only way he could. throughout the show Mr Robot does everything he can to keep Elliot alive even at the expense of the mastermind. Thing is, he is real in the sense that he is a fragmented part of elliot, even though we don’t perceive a different person, he is very much his own personality until they reintegrate in the end
Thank you. Those of us can definitely find solace and connect thanks to Mr Robot. I checked out "I'm ready to talk" and it's the most authentic thing I've seen in awhile. You're a cool dude and I wish you well.
Thank you so much for keeping the music consistent in the outro. I was worried it was gonna switch to the typical outro music, but letting the scene play out in the background was the perfect choice
I remember the first time I saw this episode and I couldn't stop crying for 3 hours it broke my heart into a thousand pieces. It is and will always be my favorite series.
The fact its two personalities of the real elliot dealing with the horrors they saw and as such were created to protect Elliott, is so sad. 😢 excellent writing. I can't imagine a world where they never completed this show. Everything was so well planned out when they made this show and its story. Most shows don't make it season 4 let alone pull off an intimate, well meaning story. Gotta give hats off to amazon for making such a show and allowing esmail and his team make an iconic and classic series which I don't think any other studio or streaming site would pick up. So many layers, it's a masterpiece
It’s fascinating. In moments like these it’s always highlighted that the mastermind has more control than the other personalities and could end up consuming everything if he really wanted to. But it’s because of the people around him that he never felt the sole sadness and rage that created him. He was healing.
This show just beat me emotionally in season 3, and I was like "can't get worse". Then S4 episodes 7 and 8 went "here is a gut punch of all gut punches of depression"
I am also the product of an abusive father and I liken it to only having three wheels on my truck and still going far and fast but ultimately that fourth wheel will always be missing especially when I stop and it will always set me aside in life. If I had a good loving father I would never have gone so far in life and done so much and he did nothing with his own life except abuse a beautiful loving wife and child and lie and cheat. He was handsome and talented and could make anything except make us happy. My step father was an amazing loving, kind affectionate man. He painted and was a champion golfer and took amazing photos and hugged me everytime he saw me and always tucked some money into my pocket for extras. He died aged 55, way way too soon.
Mr Robot is an incredible show and truly shows how the characters views are to the world, seeing Elliot like that breaks my heart, also it breaks my heart when Mr Robot thinks that Elliot can’t trust him. They are my favourite characters but I have more. Amazing show ❤️
(spoilers) I already wrote this under another video, but I'll correct it a little here: In season 3, Mr. Robot told Elliot (Mastermind) that he could use the name of a photo with a good memory of his father to make it like 5/9 never happened. And here in season 4, he says that he showed Elliot only good memories when he and his father were friends. That is, he used good memories to block out the bad ones, both in relation to operation 5/9 and in relation to the one who was born on 5.09 (Edward, Elliot's father). Plus, the Mastermind himself "changed" Elliot's past, as Mr. Robot showed him only good memories. Without them, this illusion of cancellation would not have worked. And also the fact that as a good memory, Mr. Robot in season 3 chose a photo where Elliot and his Father in the images "back to the Future", and here in 4 he says "If I could go back in time ...". In a sense, Mr. Robot was the one who throughout all the time, he helped different versions of Elliot at different times.
One subtle note to this scene: the AllSafe Cybersecurity logo reads "Al Safe Cy ersecurity" with the l and b removed. The missing LB refers to pounds, so even this detail is a subtle nod to the weight being lifted in the scene.
I relate too Mr.Robot this show and this character such a emotional roller-coaster but it was a epic story to Two characters fighting there Identity Elliot needed to Cope with Reality of knowing his father is not the Man he thought he was turned more traumatic then before it was them finding that they were understanding that they both needed each other most people wouldn't understand i how I see myself he this character i had DID disorder for all my life since I never thought I was there but it was there when I was 14 years old. Elliot and Mr.robot on there Cycles of a loop in reality,Elliot was a life was whole lie he's truths were behind a Mask of monster he painted,my favorite quote how can you take off mask if much part of as I am)
The memories were real but Mr Robot would pick and choose what Elliot remembered. Think back to the shop scene where Elliot was rewarded rather than punished for stealing money you can see now this was actually grooming 😢
Dear MrRobot admin I have a sugesstion regarding "Last day to watch on Netflix": August 22" Maybe the whole thing should be uploaded to youtube (I guess on UA-cam Premium) so we can rewatch it again on youtube. Hope this could be fulfilled, Love the show.
This is so weird in the context that ... Spoiler ... Mr Robot is talking to MM and saying these things. I know he feels that saying these things will eventually reach Elliot anyway when they reach synthesis, but this tender moment is kind of deceptive too.
Ehh I mean, I think Mastermind is Elliot in the sense of how he experiences being Elliot, and he kinda becomes more Elliot as the show goes on and more of his walls break down. He still exists as a dissociative barrier between the original Elliot and his pain, but he feels that pain authentically once he has access to it. And besides, this sure wouldn't be the time for Mr. Robot to drop that bomb.
Mr Robot is an incredible show and truly shows how the characters views are to the world, seeing Elliot like that breaks my heart, also it breaks my heart when Mr Robot thinks that Elliot can’t trust him. They are my favourite characters but I have more. Amazing show ❤️
