I spent the whole summer in Rome in 1994 when I was a footloose and fancy free 24 year old. It was great!! I have never returned but I would love to go back.....:)
Great advice...you make me want to go right back there! You are definitely right on about using the subway, buy a 24-hour ticket and use it to save time and energy to get to many of these main sights. Also, the shopping in Rome (in fact, Italy as a whole) is MAD! I for sure should have saved some of my budget for shopping. It's even amazing at the Rome airport!
Thanks so much for the video! I'm going to Rome in a few hours and as I always do everything the last minute, I had no idea where to start my exploration of the city, so your succinct overview has helped me focus on the things I want to do. Many thanks, Colm.
Basillica San Paulo is a great one too, less touristy. It is a newer build but still breathtaking inside - and free of charge too. You can get to it by getting on the metro on line B and getting off at Basillica San Paulo, bout a 5min walk from there.
LOL, well I can tell you one thing, having been to Rome a few times. Italians LOVE it when you try just a few words in Italian. They are deeply tired of being shouted at in English. Further, in order to even try speaking Italian correctly you have to move your mouth. You have to move your mouth much more than most of us American, Irish, English - English speakers. You also have to roll your Rs, but it's not that hard, just takes a bit of practice.
@Kittylovr I travelled between Pompeii, Rome and Sorrento just a couple of weeks ago. My advice is that you take the bus from Tiburtina station in Rome directly to Pompeii. The name of the bus is called Marozzi, it takes around 3 hours and costs around 17 euro :) You can also travel by train, but then you have to change train in Naples.
@Kittylovr Hey there. This video was made in April. It will be chilly enough in November so definitely take warm clothes with you. Pompeii is around 3 hours from Rome - it's closer to Naples. From Naples you can get a train there. Hope this helps :)
@hostelworld @vangrails @TheGiacomopuccini @petrah82 Thanks so much for the advice. Very appreciated. Kinda disappointed that I decided to go one of the rainiest months... But you take what you get. I only have 3 days in Rome, and I don't want to waste time traveling, so Pompeii will be for another trip. I live in Massachusetts so November in LA is summer for me lol! Again thank you all so much!!!!
@Kittylovr I don't know if it can help but november and april are the most rainy months in Rome, it is very possible you will need an umbrella, the temperature is cold but not so cold, if you've been there think about november in los angeles with the rain. The distance from pompei is 212 kms, it's not so close :) .
AMAZING CITY...I WENT IN MY WINTER(IN BRAZIL) VACATIONS 2009......I WENT IN ROME ,PISA,TORINO,CHAMONIX AND PARIS...15 AMAZING DAYS......IN SEPTEMBER......" PREGO"...FROM BRAZIL
on the list of the least visited sights , the 3rd one was (santa maria)made up of bones in the inside, what exactly is that any info would be very appreciated....
I'm going to Rome in mid november and I am wondering if this is when this video is made. Was i really cold? What clothes do you suggest to pack? Also was it Pompeii that was the 20 minutes out of the city, or a city simular to it? If not, how far is Pompeii from Rome? Thanks
Useful video, thanks, we're going there for a long wekend soon. BUT why the overloud music ? It contributes nothing and distracts from what is being said.
No problem. Edinburgh is on the way, then hopefully Venice soon after. Bern will be further down the line. Check back to the channel homepage tomorrow for a different Edinburgh video - "How to save money in Edinburgh"
que strees de trabajo ir por todo el mundo visitando ciudades y lugares espectaculares que manera de trabajo menos mal todos los días tomó el bus lleno de gente para ir de mi casa al trabajo y viceversa ja ja... ja ... ja
@loseweightwidme That was our plan too... until we came to Italy. Im from Sweden and im not used to that kind of traffic at all xD They drive very fast and the streets are crowded, especielly between Napoli and Sorrento. So we decided to go by bus instead. But if you are used to tough traffic I guess you can rent a car :) I wish you a great time in Italy!
6:56 I spent a small fortune in The Diesel Shop shown here!!!! & that was in lira before The Euro in Rome............ My lappy must be really old now as well. Can't find the euro symbol on my keyboard. Yikes
@Ftlil1 Cold (For Rome..of course) 2°-4° .morning and evening 10°-12° during the day (if its a day with sun). Obviously...speaking in general (could do more cold or no).
I'm from rome, but I never heard about any of the restaurants you say. For genuine roman cuisine, you gotta go in testaccio or trastevere. in the center you gotta know where to eat, it's full of touristy places! a tip, buy the guide "Roma c'è" . it's in italian, but it has got the whole thing, concerts, hotspots and so on... For nightlife. you never go wrong with trastevere, piazza trilussa, piazza campo dei fiori. hust walk around and choose your disco or pub. my hint? a good enoteca
You know it started out looking not too bad and then the panning shots were so fast and out of focus they just gave me a headache, good god that is amateur. Plus the reflection off the bus in another shot really bad, I mean you could of re-done that in a second. Another pull back shot was not even level on your tripod. Nothing personal, the info is great, filming bad.
I think when you make a video about a place you should make some effort in getting your pronunciation right. Your Italian pronunciation is totally off... not just a bit... major off.
hahahahahahaha Capitalism was invented by Adam Smith hahahahahahahahahaha Adam Smith wasn't even around before the 17th Century, Adam Smith came from the 18th Century hahahahahaha
Loved it so much I moved here, best city in the world.
I spent the whole summer in Rome in 1994 when I was a footloose and fancy free 24 year old. It was great!! I have never returned but I would love to go back.....:)

wish we could ALL speak Italian beautifully
Hi,
At the very end of the video there are details of how to get a fact sheet of everything that's in the video.
I'm going to Rome in mid november and I am wondering if this is when this video is made. Was i really cold? What clothes do you suggest to pack? Also was it Pompeii that was the 20 minutes out of the city, or a city simular to it? If not, how far is Pompeii from Rome? Thanks
I can't find the information on this video on the website. can you please help me?

I love your videos. could use different music though...
when we went we walked every where, and it was in the 90's and 100's. We were also miles away from every thing
No problem. Edinburgh is on the way, then hopefully Venice soon after. Bern will be further down the line. Check back to the channel homepage tomorrow for a different Edinburgh video - "How to save money in Edinburgh"
Hahaha I love the old nosey woman at 6:45...Its looks pretty warm but her and all the rest of Italians still wear there heavy winter coats. Hahaha
6:47 That lady is so brilliant lol
que strees de trabajo ir por todo el mundo visitando ciudades y lugares espectaculares que manera de trabajo menos mal todos los días tomó el bus lleno de gente para ir de mi casa al trabajo y viceversa

Are these places to eat cheap? I´m going to Rome on a budget, so I can´t spend a lot on food! Do you have any suggestions for me?
@Kittylovr
It was not Pompeii but Ostia Antica, Ostia Antica is 20 minutes out of the city.
good
@loseweightwidme That was our plan too... until we came to Italy. I wonder if any one noticed the flying object over the top in the 44 secs of the video. Could be just a parachute ? but is went to fast...
@lazios I forgot ... rarely rain (in January).
Loved the old Italian woman on the High Street, wondering why he was talking to himself!
@Ftlil1 Cold (For Rome..of course) 2°-4° .morning and evening 10°-12° during the day (if its a day with sun).
Obviously...speaking in general (could do more cold or no).

sorry about that, I really love your video, but your accent is a bit less than understandable on Italian name of places...
PA VRATA STA BI BILO
si
The music makes it hard to hear what you're saying! Soften it, please!!!
Que?
The music ruins it. Couldn't get past minute 2
you have a ufo on sky at 0:40
omg an UFO!!! oh no wait... it's a bird.
The tips are nice, but the videos are too long and lacks dynamism!
god damn i thought american pronunciation of italian words was bad
You know it started out looking not too bad and then the panning shots were so fast and out of focus they just gave me a headache, good god that is amateur. Plus the reflection off the bus in another shot really bad, I mean you could of re-done that in a second. Another pull back shot was not even level on your tripod. I've posted zero onto UA-cam. Same as you I reckon!!!!!!

I think when you make a video about a place you should make some effort in getting your pronunciation right. Your Italian pronunciation is totally off... not just a bit... major off.
Wait, what? Seriously??
And today it's completely collapsed, grafitti everywhere, trash everywhere.... poor city.
Not really. Now it's all clean. But Milan and Naples...oh God, YES! Especially Milan has become the dirtiest ghetto in Europe.
The Pyramid is just a pathetic excuse for a landmark/structure. Avoid it.
hahahahahahaha Capitalism was invented by Adam Smith hahahahahahahahahaha Adam Smith wasn't even around before the 17th Century, Adam Smith came from the 18th Century hahahahahaha
