That Chrome aberration you’re referring to indicates a lens that is pretty clear, actually clearer most factory HID lenses (LED lenses have different OEM design) . Most lenses from factory such as HID BMW are Fresnel type meaning they’re not as bright to reduce intensity. Most clear aftermarket lenses such as Morimoto have this aberration. It’s actually pretty sought after . Almost forgot, this is actually one of the most original, interesting channels I’ve watched. Very original, clear, concise, and honest. Looking forward to watching more of these videos.
I did a diy retrofit about a year ago, and am really happy with how it all turned out! I got blacked out headlights and side marker lights for the retrofit, which I really like. I hadn't realized that these types of projector bulbs existed though! I had spent about $250-$300 using all budget/discount parts for my retrofit, but for a similar light ouput at $70, I probably would've just gone the route of these bulbs - it's definitely a lot easier!! Great video and review, Sal :)
That’s cool you did the retrofit yourself, and honestly $300 isn’t too bad. I think it would be cool to do that one day, because I do believe that they produce a much better output. But for now, I’m happy with what I’ve got. Thanks for watching, Jon! - Sal
Surprised this doesn't have very many likes, I'm your 500th. I completely agree on the OEM plus/subtler look, on sixth generation civics the professional retrofits are really out of place and bulgy, just doesn't look right to me, but every time I drove my dad's old S2000 or any newer car I knew I had to have a set of projectors in my personal car. Thank you for the in depth and informative review!
Really glad I stumbled across this video! I wanted to retrofit but opted to replace my Halogens on my '05 AC tundra with some LED's and the light scatter is just ridiculous. I am constantly getting flashed, and feel bad for other drivers so I switched them back to halogen and now I feel like I can't see anything. At a cross-roads of reinstalling LED's, and now that I know this is an option, definitely going to give it a try, 70$ for a safe and reasonable upgrade. Not to mention I like the OEM+ look, sometimes the retrofit projectors look good, sometimes they look goofy.
My thoughts exactly. These are a nice entry level price to get into the projector game without dropping a ton of money or the big retrofit looks. Thanks for watching - Sal
Great video Sal . Have had an 06 Access cab for the last 6 years . Just drove 3600 clicks from Phoenix to Burlington Ontario with 0 issues. Having the timing belt (~200,000 kilometers) replaced now on the side of caution and will install the leds on the drive back to Phoenix in November . Many thanks for all the useful information !
Awesome! Yeah I really think that simple preventative maintenance will keep these trucks safely on the road for years and years. Glad the video is helpful, I definitely like this upgrade! - Sal
When I had a first generation 2002 Tacoma I purchased a plug/ play upgraded lighting wiring harness that allowed me to use high wattage halogen bulbs as the headlight assemblies are designed for halogen bulbs. It worked great. I reached out to the guy that made the heavy duty lighting wiring harness for Tacomas and hopefully I get a response from him.
Good video. I did the same with my 2017 tundra...love it! A whole cheaper than a complete retrofit. I did a retrofit on my 2003 sequoia with hid. Loved the brightness and look but didn't want to do it again. Glad I saw your video, gave me ideas with projector look in led without fans. Good job.
That's great to hear, and cool that the bulbs work with the newer trucks too. The retrofits seem great, but the ease of the bulb replacement for these makes them more desirable for me. Thanks for watching - Sal
Glad to hear they worked out nicely. My truck is gray and I thought smoked headlights would look really nice so I bought an expensive set of LED headlights they didn’t work out as nice as I hoped. Projector conversion was option #2!!
Oh nice! Yeah the smoked look is pretty cool, but I wanted to stay OEM for my truck. Too bad to hear you weren’t too happy with your old setup, but hopefully the new one is treating you well! Thanks for watching - Sal
Hey sal! I’m probably gonna end up going with these for my tundra. Best bet imo. Also, a video suggestion for your truck would be an led swap for all interior lights. Such as cluster and hvac controls. Cheer brotha! Chris
Oh nice! Yeah I think you will be happy with them compared to stock, and in my mind you can’t beat them for the money. I’ll look into the interior LED lighting, I’ve thought about it in the past but never got around to doing it - would definitely help freshen up the interior. Thanks for watching, Chris! - Sal
Clean 1st Gen Tundra Sal! If these would've been available or if I would've known about these 3 years ago, I probably wouldn't have went with the Morimoto full retrofit on my 1GT. Great review! I appreciate the video and for coming back to this product with a follow up.
Oh, I forgot to mention that when I did find out about these, I installed them on the wife's 1G Sequoia and have been super impressed for the $$. This has allowed me to directly compare these CO Lights with the Morimoto retros and again, for the $$, these can't be beat so far (3 months in). Thanks again Sal!
That is great to hear! I haven't had the chance to see the morimoto setup in person so I haven't been able to compare apples to apples. I'm sure the morimotos are well worth the money, but I appreciate the value that these co lights give. Thanks for watching! - Sal
Thanks for your video. I also replaced the stock headlights on my 04 Tundra Dblcab with a HID projector headlight from Eagle Eyes a few years back and I really love the increased light output. I can see farther up ahead better without blinding oncoming traffic and the halo ring around the projector lamp makes the truck look more modern.
Jumping in here a little late. Appreciate You taking the time to make the great video. Have you noticed any additional heat from these LED Projectors? Any concern about that ? Thanks in advance.
No I haven't, and I've done plenty of road trips now where the lights were on for hours and hours at a time and haven't had any issues. Thanks for watching! - Sal
I can’t find the right size emblem, by any chance do u have a link to buy the emblem for a 2002 tundra? Also just bought the headlights love them bro 🤙
Glad to hear it! For the emblem, I would honestly try your local junkyard/pick-n-pull. It looks like there are some on ebay, but they look super overpriced. And like you said, it seems hard to confirm that it would fit our truck. Thanks for watching!
Hey Sal really enjoying the videos on your truck. I’m down in Florida as well and I’m checking out a 2002 Tundra in the next couple days. Excited to check it out, but I am worried about the condition of the frame. Although there is only 119,000 miles on it, the truck spent its life in Connecticut. In a separate video you mentioned your frame has little/no rust due to being in Florida. Is there any way to reach out to you with some questions? I’m a little curious what a frame in your condition would look like to compare. Really hoping the frame is in good condition so I can start a build. I did see in the vehicle history that the fuel tank members were replaced and it got a frame coating with the recall Toyota had. I saw your other videos mentioning things to look out for, but if you have any advice for checking out the truck that would be awesome thanks!
Hey Brandon, you can email me at jdmdriveway101@gmail.com and I can send over some pics of what my frame looks like. The frame coating sounds promising, but really the only way to know for sure is to get under and see for yourself. Something I didn't mention in the other video that I would also check is that 4wd engages (if the truck has it). It's electronic and I've heard that the actuators or whatever can go bad, so I'd just give it a shot. Let me know what other questions you've got! - Sal
Hey Jerry, that’s coming up soon! I’ve got the Atoto F7 and I’ve been enjoying it so far, but ill make a full video in the next couple of weeks 👍🏼 thanks for watching - Sal
Hmm, I paired a key fob to my truck in a previous video, but I haven’t had any issues with the door locks otherwise. Unfortunately I’m not sure where to start with troubleshooting the door locks. Maybe taking off the door cards and seeing what’s going on behind there - Sal Tundra key fob pairing WALKTHROUGH ua-cam.com/video/XjcBbyZVcZg/v-deo.html
Strange... I'd assume that the whole thing needs to be turned 90 degrees to level it out. If I remember correctly, there's an Allen head screw that you can loosen to twist the lense assembly. Hope this helps! - Sal
Hey Sal, I just installed mine today and they are 15’ in the air. Adjusters on the housings don’t do anything. Did you have any adjustment issues? Thanks.
Oh dang, I didn’t have any issues like that. I’d definitely check to make sure that the bulb is sitting properly flush in the headlight, I’d imagine that would cause it to be so high in the air. Hope you figure it out! - Sal
Have you thought about the radiator failing ? I have a 02 with the 3.4 motor in it with 170,000 miles im thinking of changing mine out . Ive read when they fail the trans fluid and the radiator fluid mix together and ruin the transmission.
Yep, I have read the exact same thing and I'm definitely a little worried. I even went out and bought a new OEM radiator, but haven't installed it yet. The plastics on my radiator aren't getting brownish in color yet, so I think it has been replaced at some point. I'll probably finally replace it this spring/summer and make a video about it. Thanks for watching - Sal
I got part #16410-AZ018. It's been over a year since I did the research to find out which one I needed lol so when I was looking at the options tonight it's definitely confusing. Mine is probably different than the one you would need for your 3.4 engine. I ordered mine online through my local Toyota dealership and then went and picked it up, but they have you put in a VIN and should be able to let you know if you bought the right one or not.
My 2 cents worth is that for such a problem to occur you must have damage in the transmission cooling line as it runs through the radiator. It’s not the radiator itself that fails. If there’s a way to only replace the transmission line then that would be the way to go. You can do a pH and voltmeter test on your fluid to see if it’s old. Eyeballing the color for rust/contamination no longer works (if it’s discolored then you’re WAY too late and you’d better be worried about head gasket damage).
Hey Sal i installed these 2 days ago and my brights dont work anymore? Also my right one hyper flashes on my right blinker. Any thoughts where i couldve messed up?
Dang, sorry to hear that. Issues with the high beams is common on our trucks and most people install an in-line resistor to remedy that. However, these CO lights come with one already there so I'm not sure why you're still having that issue. The hyperblink is a little weirder, not sure where an overlap for the blinker and headlight wiring could be causing that. Do you have led bulbs for your turn signals?

Just picked these up too, I have the same blue line you mentioned and I agree its not too bad. Loving all these reviews they are so helpful.
Yeah, the blue line annoys me a little bit, but its kinda the only downside of these lights. So for the money, I can't really complain lol
Did you feel the difference was significant from the halogens?
