I'm new and loving all your DIY projects! I'm 57 and am caregiver for my invalid husband,so naturally all home repairs and fix-its are my job . .And with money being very tight I have learned to rely so much( on wonderful folks and videos channels on YT like yours !) to help me with info and teaching.I need to make one of these for the shed door out in the yard! Now I'm off to fix the broken clay sewer pipe out in the yard, yuck! Keep up the great work,it matters!

She’s correct you have it too easy there’s no excuse but to be autodidact minimum. All human knowledge at touch, history and state of affairs freedom is a fable. Ai isn’t a tool, it’s training to betray right to silence. A copy of you in binary. All told long ago, no surprises.

I made something like this 60 years ago when I was a boy. Spring-type wooden clothespins were still relatively new. Nice thing about that design was you could put a thin machine or wood screw through the spring to hold the clothespin to any surface (like a door frame). Two metal thumbtacks were the electrodes. Scared a neighbor girl with it. Good times!

It was meant to be installed on the INSIDE of the door when you’re home, asleep or whatever if there is an intruder or invasion. When you leave, and while ur gone, wedge something in between the clips, and do what you need to do. When you come home and your back inside, reset it. The batteries won’t need to be changed for a long, long time, ( shelf life) if they are new and not left draining. Like the alarm constantly going. Something USING the battery juice is what drains them. If it’s disengaged then the batteries should last a long time. Make several and store them. Not a bad idea for home owners or renters who have no money for an alarm system with monthly fees. Keep a charged cell phone, tactical flash light, and a home self defense weapon with extra ammo at home in the bedroom. You can also carry these items on your person while at home. Think ahead, expect the best and prepare for the worst. Be trained in everything you use. Respect yourself, respect others, and clean up after yourself. All of this is the best advice I can give anyone. Remember, I was told in the Police Academy; Better to have it and not need it, than need it n not have it. God bless n be safe. 🙏. Task Force Guy - over n out

    Great work..only two small details:
    1) if using it for outdoor installation, ensure that it’s weatherproof( perhaps add a small shelter structure over it)..
    2) when the battery dies, you’ll have to detach the wires and scrape off the glue and re install a new pair of batteries as compared to Just taking it out from a regular household appliance.. that’s if you plan to use this alarm for permanent use...
But apart from that..really good job..

Interesting idea. I am not applying hot glue to my door. You can buy packs of the little proximity switch alarms with a shutoff switch for a few bucks. I've used them they work well and battery change is easy. For god sakes man invest in a set of wire strippers, before you de-skin your finger. Good presentation, I'm just not that bored. Thanks. Sam.

    just two questions:
    1. how are you gonna change the batteries without any damage,
    2. how are you gonna live with an alarm which activates everytime you use the door.

      1. either use rechargeable batteries, or make an enclosure for batteries and solder the wires to it. The video is for demonstration purposes.
      2. put another cardboard between the leads when the alarm is unarmed. Arm it back by removing the cardboard and putting the one from your door instead.

It's not a speaker. It looks, like a Mallory sonalert type of device. All it does is beep or pulse. Quite common . My biggest beef is that they are high pitched and not terribly loud. My boss couldn't hear it in an alarm panel by his office. With hearing problems they can't always be heard because the pitch is too high. Test it with the person who it is for

DISCLAIMER: if you don't have any of the tools or equipment shown in this video, then this video isn't so simple because you could go out and buy a door alarm for cheaper than buying everything you need to do it this way.
This video is only for those who have all of this stuff laying around your house and you have the "know how" and patience to do it.
    Not so "simple".

If wanted to attach a larger sound system (like something to let the whole neighborhood know), where would I splice it in? Also, where can one find the sound box, and do they make them with different sounds (like dogs barking). We're kind of in the hood and have been broken into 4 times at this point and even with license plates images and facials the police won't pursue it.

Have they targeted you for marketing and pay you to show them like that? If so then that's cool, you go to effort making these videos and you deserve more money than just the youtube placed ads.

Not a bad idea but has been done before. Also what happenes when the glued batteries die? Use battery clips.

you can put a recharable battery instead or attach a battery container instead, you don't need to do it exactly like him, he is just showing how it can be done, use your own imagination

With a speaker alone this will not beep. You may have used a BUZZER ( speaker with a built in integrated circuitry).

Make a video of how to set an electrified wire on your door, so intruders would be shocked immediately

Thanks for the video. How did you get the solder to stick to the batteries? I never seem to get it to work.
