Agree! I was a latecomer to MMO's and Aion was my very first I ever played. I fell in love with the beautiful graphics (cutting edge at the time), and similarly gorgeous music. Back when everyone tread lightly around Verteron Citadel to avoid the killer, ganking crab, and you could grind for a week trying to get past the late-30's quest gap to 40, and I still loved it anyway!
AION is the best mmo I have ever played.. played nearly everyday from 2010 to 2019. I am SO sad to see it so dumbed down and that they removed like 90% of the world and the quests/titles. This just looks like a demo.. :( Fun fact: The gear you received after becoming a painter used to be Siel’s Forgotten gear which was rewarded after completing a long and painfully grindy questline.
whatever happened to Katalam and stuff? I loved the OST for that place and it had such a cool middle ground between the Elyos and Asmos in there. I will never forget the Telemantra hacker legion scandal. God I fucking miss this game :(
I left when they sunk half the map several years ago and removed alot of stuff. It was an update that took away more than it gave and it completely demoralized me. I was a gunner master chef. Sold a ton of food had the second biggest guild on my server and oh god the intrigue and other stuff we got into. Miss it alot
@@vx3878 Oh my..I quit the game around 2016 when there was a merge and lost all my friends and guild..I was thinking of downloading the game again but damn looks like it's getting worse in time :(
what I miss about Aion is the feeling I used to have playing it. Nowadays it is difficult to be totally immersed in a game. I rlly miss that period of time... So nostalgic
That's simply ur brain getting used to the amount of dopamine that gets released. That's how drug addicts feel when they chase the first high again haha :)
I miss Aion so much, too. Had the best time of my life playing it. I literally grew up there :D Tried many other games, but none ever got close to Aion.
@@liorag9657 welllllll... Its a little more complicated than that. Guild Wars' endgame is not necessarily about obtaining stuff and gaining more powerful (b/c I can see how that can become boring in it of itself) but just having a damn good time. Stuff like customizing your character to look dapper, and WvW, and PvP come to mind. Usually mmo games with good action combat combined with good PVP survive for many years, because there is always someone that is better than you, thus provides you the motivation to practice and beat that person.
Old Aion was the greatest game i ever played for me, i just love everything about the mechanics, the pvp/pve,that feeling in ow that u were never safe etc... It's a shame what failforge turned the game into over the years.
@@symphonikretro116NO ONE SAID THAT GAMEFORGE MAKES THE UPDATES. Ncsoft is meh but failforge destroys everything it touches ncsoft did the fast leveling, rebalance changes, maps and all that stuff ofc lol but the eu version is even more p2w than korea... prices are higher and stuff cuz gameforge is a greedy publisher lmao. sure newer patches aren't great either but i like most of it except the painter class which breaks the game, gameforge ruined the game in the eu for me with likes 50 times worse rng events,(except like 2-3 we had in 2 YEARS) than korea and let's not forget about the gold pack lol :) Eu is more p2w than ever.Ofc the game is p2w in korea too but not nearly this much Basically 7.5 kor is playable for me while eu in the current state isn't. Guess u're that special kid D: if u got any dumb questions i'm here!^^
Bruh, Aion was so good before 3.0 update, that's when everything started going south... When I'm bored I still think about all the fun I had in this game, the pain of learning the instances, messing bosses up so many times, grinding for gear. I am now sad
@@MultiFab14 I do that too. I had so many guild wars 1 memories, it was the best thing ever as a kid. I got it recently, and while its still a great game, my larger than life memories i found out were just me romanticising it. I found that also about classic wow, it didnt go how i remembered it. Also i meant no offense, i study psychology and it the way gamers act about nostalgic things, fascinates me to no end.
2:44: "My character's an Artist so we're actually going to go with two different eye colors." (Oh, that is funnier then you may have realized.) The splash page at the start of the game shows a Painter (named Vandal in NA) with two different color eyes. Before the Vandal class was introduced, on North American servers dozens of players had a two different eye color "glitch" and asked for help on the forums again and again for weeks. Two color eye "bug" so soon before the two color eye class...makes me wonder if it was a glitch in the first place.
I can tell you ive played aion for 7 years on and off but i have to say it never changed its buisness model. Its full p2w right now. If they didnt have this i would still be playing cause it is a good game l. Like the open world pvp.
well... before 4.0 Aion is not p2w but after 4.9/5.0..... weapon and acc can +20/ more than +5 it just killing the game. The best time for Aion, I think is 3.0, both pve and pvp have a lot of fun.
I played Aion back since Western Launch up until about 6 months or so after they went f2p with GameForge. Just too tragic, the game was absolutely amazing
The PvP was amazing at its peak. I remember helping lead sieges in the Abyss, and Rifting. I was an Asmodian ranger with a Tree Hat and it was seriously awesome. The game was epic, the community was strong, but I ended up quitting the game as I couldn't deal with the increasing elements that just ruined the fun for me, like unneeded RNG that destroyed everything you were working on if you failed a 1.6% chance of success gem socketing... it was rough, and just lead to un-fun. The PvP and combat honestly has some of my favorite MMO memories of all time, and I'm so sad to see where it is. I don't usually comment, but I'm commenting in hopes NCSoft does make an Aion 2 for PC. I would play. the. hell. out of it.
Man this video had me tearing up from the music and when you listed those cons out. Breaks my fucking heart what happened to this absolute masterpiece of an MMORPG. My time with Aion holds some of my fondest memories, period. The story, world, soundtrack, gameplay, combat, art style.. EVERYTHING about this game resonated so strongly with me. And I met some people on here that truly changed my life. I have the Asmodian symbol/insignia tattooed across my chest, that is my love for this game. Thousands of hours spent becoming the best, playing literally 15-20 hours a day some months where I was off school..good times. When I heard that AION 2 was coming out, I was so happy I cried. Then I learned it was a mobile game and I was absolutely heartbroken. I hope more than anything that NCSoft revists Aion as a PC title and brings back the pure magic that this beautiful game once brought to my life. But even if that doesn't happen, I am just so grateful that I was able to make such important and fantastic memories from a videogame. So much has changed about AION from when it first came out that it's like a completely different game, and it's just not one that I'm interested in. That magic is gone for me. It really started to end after 4.0, with the new classes etc. I think that with 4.0 and subsequent patches they really started to step away from what made AION so special to me and so many others, and that's a real shame. It doesn't sound like AION will last much longer, and that's very sad. But maybe that means there will be something new for us in the future. RIP AION, thank you for everything you gave me
Many Korean mobile games are and will be getting PC ports, so chances are Aion 2 thing will be on PC and mobile, NCSoft has something called Purple Platform that emulates old and mobile games for PC. A big issue is going to be the combat, a combat system will have to be made to work for mobile, meaning we will not get that fast action tab targeting combat that felt like you were playing an action game. Another issue that could be an factor is if the next Aion is on UE4 and not CryEngine or a better engine when it comes to MMO support. I also doubt the pvp will consist of 5% of the numbers on the battlefield as Aion could support... hopefully they are also making an Aion 2 for PC that is different than the mobile like what Black Desert has done.
I used to play this for years, I loved the music, the scenery and the general feel of the Asmodae world. I gave up in level 55 because I couldn't find friends and playing this game solo was brutal. I miss just being in this game world, it was such an awesome experience
I loved AION when it first came out and had a lot of fun with my Chanter... I cant believe what they have done to the starting zone xD (They practically skipped 80% of it) Its also crazy, that they start out at heiron instead of Verteron....
@@fotisbita8456 I remember when it went F2P, there was 2000 people queue for first few weeks, you had to leave it online overnight otherwise you will have to wait 3h to get in in the morning that shaked a lot of players off .. but game itself .. damn it was sooo goood .. never seen mmorpg that you could stop leveling at any point and say: this is it, its my end game and play for months collecting gear, pvp'ing etc .. people making "patrol groups" to protect lower level players while they level up at verteron/heiron from asmos, eventually endgame .. crafting and dungeons so difficult .. having best gear wasn't even an option for months .. you see somobody running with 50 lvl ap set and you just look in ave .. extendable weapons providing edge for people .. skill based pvp .. you could fight 1v3 if you knew what you were doing without having gear advantage .. ehhh it was so good .. I miss times when I would come back from school and grind some gathering skill for few hours or buy and resell stuff and then going to hunt some people who came though rift and placed obelisk in obscure place .. peak of my gaming experience :) .. there were people literally in every corner of the map
@@TechExpanse It had the potential to be if not the best one of the best mmorpgs till now .But devs had a different side and destroyed such a masterpiece.
@@TechExpanse I did emergency response protection for noobs in my area when Mid level asmos would pop in and gank the low level elyos. Id group meet up and hunt down the hunters and people were thankful for the assist. It was great.
Such Nostalgia, miss this game. They seem to have changed the leveling system a ton, would take WAY WAY longer to get to level up. Also they've changed a lot of the dungeons to be brain dead easy. They used to be really really hard.
By default you start on a "fast track server" which is basically a mirrored instance of your server with like a 300% bonus xp buff. To be fair that's my memory from about a year ago when I messed around on it for old time sake again.
Leveling is supper easy all the way to max level . just do the Pink and dark blue quests as the most of quests got removed and left with easy ones and added extra exp .
I remember when me and my friends spent tons of time looking through the leveling zones for those rare spawn unique mobs that always drop blue items. That of course was thrown straight out the window when they started giving away ultra powerful gear to help you skip the entire game instead of actually playing the game and leveling. Now the entire game is worthless to play it's just instant kills wasting your time as you get to the end of the game. They even deleted the original leveling zones to just give you a simplified new leveling zone. I also remember when everybody was a angel warrior in cool looking armor. Now the midget with the afro is throwing paint at an enemy as he flies around with hover boots in a tuxedo and his friend the ultra skinny ghost in the pink tutu wields a giant 2 handed fish as a sword. The entire atmosphere of the game is ruined.
100% agree with you. I also used to Farm those mini Bosses all around morheim and beluslan with my Friends. I couldn't have wished for a better Game to Play from 2010-2015, Made my childhood Full of Beautiful memories.
I remember when I used to spent hours killing mobs in inggison for a chance of rare drops, including paralize godstones haha. I think I got it once... now the mobs only drop shit you sell for 1 kinah lol
I remember Aion, me and my whole class were playing it all day every day after school and we all loved it. Leveling was slow, tedious but very satisfying at the time, and so was open PvP. Castle Raids were a mess with 99% of the people lagging like crazy but it was fun. It's kinda sad that 2 or 3 years after, Assault on Balaurea came out and revitalized the game, but the game still died like a year or two after that. Now everything I see about the game is a huge mess and greedy practices ... I'm kinda surprised it hasn't closed down yet, but the mixed reviews is understandable. Now it's just a shell of its former self. It really didn't age well unfortunatly, be it gameplay or graphical wise.
damn having a whole class of gamers to play with must be pretty dope, tough i lived in a country town cause my parents tought it was better to grow up kids
exactly what i think and wrote in my comment. the game was very hard and satisfying. i remember farming pvp kills and sweating not to die because u lose points when u die and u need certain amount to buy skills and items. very nice game it was... ruined totally now
Same here bro, 13 friends from my class, we starter 2009, but u know whats funny, we are still playing aion. Ofc not retail, but on private servers game is more than playable, 3.5 patch has 5+k online, 4.6 patch 3k peak, etc..game is still alive on old patches :)
This is so fun to watch as an old Aion veteran lol 2009 all the way to 2019 (a lot of quitting and coming back involved. usually return for every new major patch, just for some nostalgia) Interesting to see it from the POV of a complete newb to Aion. Aion's leveling from 1-cap really is just a big tutorial. They made it so quick, if you know a bit about it, you can do it in 4 hours (yeah, some people will be quicker). So the real game begins really at cap. As most MMOs thesedays, I guess. Aion to this day has the best tab targeting combat for me personally. I still can't be bothered to play it, since it's just too oudated. You specially notice it when you play BDO lol But I got some god damn great memories out of it. PS: It's both. Painter is quite OP, but leveling is also extremely easy. Unless you're a temp lol then it's just obnoxious.
@@NightElveee Oh what about bdo is play to win i want details on things that are actual p2w and not pay for convenience, would love to know since i plan to play that game soon
@@bobbylite7179 BDO you can sell costumes in the game for large amounts of silver or safe enhance gear using pearls. Its p2w but I really do mean this. You ONT need to do it to keep up with the playerbase. Because making money ingame is so easy now.
Btw, the content you played is 90% different than that of 2009, except starting area and capital city, all other areas are new (i guess with the new player experience revamp).
You can resize the map UI by pressing M and the rescale map icon on the right of the map window. The small radar shows other fraction players for PVP. By 2008 the graphics was really dated but they had updated maps and graphics afterwards. They even removed one of the best maps on the game too. It used to take less than 30min speedrun to reach lvl 10 while exp gain slows down dramatically that you get tired of it. They increasaed the exp gained by quests now. There used to be quests that requires you go through so many grinding all over the maps, pvp, craft and gather to get a unique armor and weapons, while some bosses in group dungeons requires strategizing where one mistake can kill all players in the group. Some dungeons requires you to collect specfic armors to reduce damage especially for a tank and while those armors also make it easy for other dps. I missed those days.
Ive been playing the game for 6 years now (PRIVATE SERVERS) and the feeling of playing it for the first time is still there. The game is Good, still enjoying it. The character Customization is Great, better than a bunch of popping up MMORPG nowadays.
All that remained of the game thag I remember spending hundreds of hours playing all those years ago is the music and the sound effects... They have removed like 50% of the game for some reason, sped up levelling to the point where lore has no significance, because you literally have no time to get immersed. Still, this video brought so much nostalgia. Downloading Aion rn lol
Aion literally helped me to survive many depressing moments that along with many sad facts happened in my family or at school since i started playing it, could've easily leaded me to suicide which I often thought about... I started playing it with my brother on a private server called Infinite Aion when i was 10 or 11 years old and my mom was struggling a lot to pay bills and food for us.. (Now i'm 21 and in 3 months i'll be 22). Aion was literally the only "escape" that was distracting me from the sad reality for many years.. So sad about the bad decision the company took over the time to ruin the fantastic and unique game it used to be. So many friend and people met that surely improved my bad moments.. Aion 2 would be some kind of dream, but if have to be realistic, if it would have still been a reality, would have been announced or already released in all this time... *Tear drops...*
I'm sorry to hear the things you and your family had to go through. I never played Aion myself but games helped me too when I couldn't keep up with the real life and for that I'm glad you found something that kept you going trough those dark days. I hope you're doing better. 💙
@@saysikefam4433 I don't know if i can say that i'm doing or feeling better, of course my life improved a little from the "pov" of bills and food, but inside i might feel even worse than i ever did. Look how they destroyed my child. AION will forever be in my heart. My first MMORPG, and no other MMORPG will ever be able to replace it. EDIT: Damn it, Peon. I quit playing when update 6.0 hit (2018?), but now I'm itching to revisit the game once more, just to see what's it like. I miss it so much. Painter class actually looks pretty fun - the lovechild between a Sin and Sorc. What region do any of y'all remaining AION players recommend? I hate GameForge, but I'm from EU. Back when I still played, NA seemed to be less P2W than EU, but EU was more populated. What faction do y'all recommend? Are Asmos still the underdog faction or have things changed?
gameforge does a very good job at handling the pay2win level of korea. if YOU don't wanna spend in a game it's YOUR choice. And again gameforge does a very very very good job at it. If you keep playing you don't even have to spend money in this game to get competitive. Seriously. Everyone in this game has the same gear. And by now EVERYONE that has played for some time has GOOD transformations for FREE. I've been playing Aion for YEAAAAAARS but i have stoped playing because i can't invest the time anymore. But friends are still playing and many of them are f2p. Some are luckier than others. Gameforge handling Aion pretty well.
@@sovex9331 No you can't cash pvp gear but sure you can on PvE, because of some events they put in where you can get that, but you can get those f2p aswell. And PvE gear is very easy to get anyway. In my opinion GF does a better job these days then in the past.
I miss Aion so much, this game was soooo good back when it released, soooo many players. I remember how my computer couldn't handle seiges in the Abyss...
Back when this game first launched, my mom and i both got pretty into it. We loved the aesthetic of it and the characters and the wings. The game was gorgeous and seemed really well balanced between classes. It was much harder back then. They still had solo dungeons and stuff and it was designed for single player so it was certainly doable but it took everything you had to complete it, you really had to know what you were doing. Leveling took longer than we were used to having came from World of Warcraft previously but was still mostly fun at lower levels. At higher levels it started getting ridiculous though. I remember doing 5 player dungeons and they were legit hard and took planning from the party to complete, but then 4 out of 5 times wouldn't drop a single piece of gear at all so you were expected to complete it multiple times. The game was extremely grindy, the reason you were getting millions of XP is because thats how long it took you before to get to the next level and you were getting what would be considered a normal amount of XP when you did things. You could very easily finish all the quests in an area and run out of things to do and only be halfway to the level you needed to be so then you had to figure out how to get to the next level. Often times that would mean venturing out to a completely different area or just mindlessly grinding mobs or completing rewardless dungeons repeatably. We gave the game a break for a while and then came back, my mother drawn in with all the new features they added in and all the new shiny mounts and things, she loves collecting mounts and pets in WoW as well so this would be what she would gravitate toward. We were in our mid 40's in levels and we got all kinds of XP boosters and things in the game and we started doing a really big quest, spent about 6 hours doing this ridiculously massive quest and went to turn it in finally and with all our XP boosts and everything we had done we only progressed like half a bar segment of like the 20 segments on the XP bar on the bottom. That was when i quit and never looked back. It looks like from your experience with it that they may have smoothed out of the issues with the leveling grind (somewhat) although it was tolerable for us back then as well till about level 40 and i don't think you went that high here. It still looks like there are a bunch of random systems in place that have little intrinsic value that i never bothered to get into. Would i ever come back? To be honest the first 20 levels or so back when we played were very fun and enjoyable, for this reason, i ended up making several alts. This game had A LOT of promise. I think that if the game had a smoother leveling curve in it's earlier days and stayed away from the P2W bullcrap then it would have been a great MMO that i might still be playing. I keep coming back to WoW from time to time because it's grown and evolved with it's player base and while not everything has been awesome, it's still a really good game. Can we say the same for Aion? I think the number of people still playing it today speaks for me in that regard. Wasn't expecting this to be this long, sorry about that.
I played this game 2 months after lease for 5 years under subscription until p2w came under new management. It was suuuuch a great game! I would look after my new kid and schedule dredging around it 3 times a day. Spent ages on getting my mirage not armour and title. And that dungeon u did at the beginning was always solo but available at level 20 not so early as in your video. ESO back then could be duoed and there was a CD on that too. PvP in the abyss was soooo good, imagine Zerg vs Zerg pvping while flying! The good old days.
I wish they hadn't ruined Aion. It was by far the best MMO I've ever had the pleasure of playing, but after 5.0 and onwards it's not even the same game. If only you'd experienced it in 4.0-4.5, or even earlier. Aion has always technically been pay2win, but gearing up and making money was never difficult to do without spending a dime. Now? It's exceptionally difficult and the gear gaps between someone with basic gear and someone with maxed gear is abysmal. In 4.x patches, you could have the bare minimum of PvP gear and compete with people with maxed gear just because of skill. Now? You'd get killed in 1 skill. Not fun. Miss you aion.
Right now you cant socket equipment bcs 1 ulti manastone is 1,5 gold pack and there are 100 of whales with full socketed equipment wich gives you 0 chance in pvp you no need skill just money
@@arcanumkonrad8200 Not really worth it, to be honest. The current design behind the game is "let's allow the players to speedrun all the levels 'till the engame where the REAL game begins". Then it's heavily PVP centered. It used to have a decent PVE - back when the leveling process was slower, so in 4.0-4.5.
Yeah I remember the days of 1.0 up to 5.0 .. I'd say 3.0 - 4.5 was just the best. I remember being able to kill full groups of PC players just from my skill alone. Now? It's been completely destroyed and is nothing but a hollow shell. It really seems alot of wonderful MMORPGs back in the day have either been passed off to another company and destroyed, it's become a cash grab or both. It really does break my heart as I have felt for the past decade that the MMORPG has died significantly. I'm hoping as technology heightens with VR, I hope we'll run into some amazing MMORPGs in the VR realm.
hearing the music again almost brought me to tears. Tried picking up the game again to meet up friends while locked inside and can say that I am disappointed with what its become.
I have so many Feelings with this Game - the Music brings me back to the good Memories the MMORPG Feel that i will never have again.. the Beauty of this Game is one of its Own i stopped with Aion 2.7 - Thinking its 7.0 now so many years have passed i miss the feel but i cant have it again, because i just like many others just grew up :( edit: i still like the combat system of Aion the MOST out of ALL MMORPGS wich are out up to this date - the Chainskill System is sooo refreshing and rewarding
I used to play it back in 2012. Parts of this game live in my head rent free. Sometimes I have this intense memories of the world and how beautiful it was. I miss playing it! Lovely game!
@@agentriot Yeah, I know. I saw those videos but if he says he'll revisit some games I'd like to see what he thinks about the levelling experience now compared to b4.
I think it'd be hard to redo a first impressions for gw2 since I've played it so much at this point and have every class at max, I was hoping I could revisit it for a new expansion but they're mostly releasing small story stuff rather than big game changing updates at this point it seems
I bought GW2 with Heart of Thorn expansion. Played it maybe 3 to 4 months. Quitted and went back to GW original that I have played for what... is it 11 or 12 years old game by now? Not missing GW2 a bit. Boring farming game with uninteresting fight system.
I'm so glad you decided to make a new first impressions video for Aion. This game was such a large part of my life in my teens and it warms my heart to see that you gave it another try. I love your videos, keep up the good work, Peon!
This game ironically shows the problem with a lot of MMO's. The leveling is afterthought, it's too fast, dungeons are no real dungeons anymore. You level way too fast. I know this wasn't the case on Aion release, so it probably just fell victim due to it's age. But it's something I see more and more and it's so sad.
Agreed. Leveling is part of the journey. It should be an epic, fun and rewarding experience. Not just something to breeze through quickly to get to end game. That is why I play a lot of classic MMO's now. Sad to hear this game is pay to win now. I would have gave it a shot it looks pretty decent.
This is why I loved WoW for so long before all the boost and dungeon spam leveling. The journey to endgame was a literal grind that everyone was proud to finish at the time....IF you finished
I also feel like the opposite was also true of a lot of older MMOs as well: Where there was only leveling content and nothing else at end game once your done with it which has also killed a LOT of MMOs.
this brings back so many memories.... played it from closed beta all the way to 1st expansion, then it was time to say goodbye... as a tank i must have done steel rake like legit a thousand times for all my guild
This game fell to the usual pitfall that comes with MMOs that’ve survived for over a decade. They turned towards power leveling characters to get them to end game material to catch them up with everyone else playing for years and so they can enjoy content that was more recently released by devs. This sucks out a lot of the initial story and fun but it’s an inevitability for most MMOs
I wonder what the game creators think when they read all the negative reviews of Aion. I will cry my eyes out if i had a game and so many people quit. How can you work so hard to create a MMO and then ruin it and let it sit empty....something is off with all MMO's. Very creepy ! Why bother to make a game and then ruin it and make people quit instead of making it better so you have full happy servers. I will never understand.
Its because the real creator of the game sell the whole game for someone who are hungry for money. Thats why aion change so much and dont care for players. Because the new owner was focused on only money. But got a lot of money actually. So i think that game dont matter now to him. Thats why aion are dying.
Ask the same question again to NCSoft when it comes to MxM aswell. And you'll understand that they're amazingly good at creating games but they're the worst at keeping them alive. That's the shame of it.
I was a player of this game when it realeased and I loved that game! came just to check your opinion on it coz I like you videos and I enjoy your sarcastic comments... most of it. Tho a few things I can tell you, the map becomes translucent once you lock the quickbars slots, which is much better in terms of UI, and the compasse bellow it may not be helpfull at the start, but once you are on pvp it's easier to locate enemy players with it since they appear as a bigger red dot on it. Cool vid anyway! keep up the good work ;)
I've been playing aion for 10 years. it became a p2w cancer, where nothing happens, boring PvE, no existent PVP, most people only log to afk events. You have "long term goals" (according to gameforge) that you can only achieve by p2w, and not cheap p2w either, some people have spent well over 10k euros and still didn't get what they wanted. (transformations) And this is only a fraction of what you need to achieve. (Gear, transformations, enchanting skills, enchanting stigmas and so on) The future patches (2 patches ahead in Korea) will bring even more p2w garbage,. Its pure madness!! the game is dying fast, even though some people are in denial, the truth is gameforge had to merge 8 servers into 4 not so long ago and at the rate that it's going we can expect another merge soon. Another alarming fact is that even Korean players are quitting aion. That should tell you something. I used to love aion, but now I'm playing it for the nostalgia of better times. ~ Quite frankly this is not aion, its just a facade for casino bullshit. Even the spirit and lore has been lost. Ncsoft isn't putting any effort into the game either. Upcoming patches bring nothing new, just old maps being reused just for the sake of introducing new p2w mechanics. Assets from other games like lineage2 are also being used. This is the best advice anyone could give you. Even for returning players: Do yourself a favor and stay away from this game. It will only bring you stress, frustration, and disappointment.
@Khrysto Aion Official Well, if you've got absolutely no social life, come home from work and play 10 hours a day with 50 alts and 5 veteran accounts, I guess that'd be possible yeah.
See, you can actually do it right when you try! :) I have to say this is a vast improvement of your previous video and I am appreciative of the fact that you can own up to the previous one not being up to par. Simultaneously, this is a game that I used to love a lot myself but the grind just got too grindy for me. I can confirm that the fact you breezed through the levels is due to some kind of leveling boost that they gave the game. The default EXP is much, MUCH higher than it used to be, and there was even "rested" EXP that you kept gaining with all the quests at the start. This made it easier for you to level up significantly faster and not have to endure the grueling exp grind that Aion used to dish out between levels 10-17. :D So count yourself lucky that you try it now, in 2020, when they improved that aspect! Also another thing that I quite enjoyed in this one is that you showcased a class that I hadn't even heard of! Back in 2015, the bard class did exist but there wasn't a second class within the "Artist" option. Fancy this! Very interesting. And that color bomb ability was absolutely broken indeed! If you had chosen one of the oldest classes, at the times when you didn't get 134897 golden items to play with, luring all the bosses at once at Kromede's Trial (that last solo dungeon showcased), you would've died instantaneously or kited those bosses until your world started spinning. :D So kudos to NCSoft for making this more newbie-friendly. (The insane grind at endgame is a bit too much of a time investment unless you are a teenager with lots of time to spare or someone who doesn't actually have to work for a living though. I believe this is the main reason for why this game's player-base is dwindling terribly despite NCSoft's attempts to keep it floating. That, and GameForge's terrible publishing work of it. :D)
Hell yeah, I'd actually love to see you cover Perfect World, I remember trying when I was like 13, my memory of it is vague but I remember it looking kinda cool. I think it also had a twin game called Forsaken World, but I have no idea what that'd be like.
very nostalgic video. i played this during the peak of the game, i've put many many hours into Aion. Sad that i left but the player base started to drop after the game go more p2w and required heavy grinding to keep up with new patches and equipment whilst still falling behind to paying players.
Back in the days AioN was so so fun. Very good PvP, you needed lots of hours to master chain-combos skills, good content PvPvE. I wish there was AioN "remasterd" with graphics alike BDO..
The best combat i ve ever seen in a game. Easy to play hard to master classes with highskill ceiling but my wallet couldnt keep up with gameforge after 5.0
You should see the revamped Asmodian starting zone, it's actually pretty visually impressive. Way better than the Elyos one IMO. Sanctum is far more unique and interesting than Pandaemonium, though, which I suppose makes us even. :P Also, if you didn't before (I forget), play a Chanter! You'd think that with it being part of the priest starter class it'd be kind of a boring healer, but you *actually* beat the crap out of things with long chains of staff combos while radiating passive buffs, and it's great. Aside from the boring sorcerer/spiritmaster I really like this game's take on the various typical class archetypes overall.
This game used to be challenging, now everything seems too easy, and pretty disappointing. I think they just want you to reach endgame and start spending money on shop stuff.
That's good, no one likes dumb grinding anymore. No mmo was difficult, grinding is not difficulty and all Aion and many old MMOs were was just dumb grind.
@@wykydytron not true. IN Aion I was leveling by following quests and there were some hard ones where you need party to do it, which was fun. It's an mmo , I don't always wanna solo it, if I would I would play some single player game. I don't understand this rush through the content. The most fun I had in every game was while leveling.
@@MrGalactus95 Used to be a lot more when the game was harder. I miss how it was. A lot of games are changing into a rush pace one all the way to the end content, which kills a good amount of MMO audience who do enjoy the grind.
It's so sad seeing Aion so empty, when I played it when I was a kid it was filled with people. Also, never seen the area you're at at lvl 15-19, for sure feels weird bc I played this game for months.
just watched the video to the end and holy sht you got in one single video to lvl 25??! My dumbass child brain back then couldn't even get to lvl 22.. (one of the reasons for that was that I always would just wander around and explore rather than do the main quests)
@@kafka1442 they definitely made the leveling faster. I remember playing back in the day and there was points where you would have to actually just grind mobs to get to the next group of quests. It was definitely way more grindier back in the day. I played a gladiator and a chanter.
This game is far from empty. It's very active at endgame. In fact it's still very laggy during siege time. I played again recently on my veteran account it was too easy to level characters to max. (Took 2-3)
I think a lot of people aren't playing Aion on Steam though. (I for one didn't even know you could play Aion through steam.) I used to absolutely love this game back at it's release when it was P2P. It was grindy but I loved it. I love the classes. The game looked great at it's release. I loved the soundtrack. I also loved the tab targetting combat. I loved the old Rift system going to the other races zones & killing players or being invaded by enemies and trying to survive or kill them. I loved the Abyss & the PvP. I kinda liked the old lvling system. It was a lot slower, there were a lot more zones & more party play while lvling up in dungeons. (and early on in the game's lifespan there were some world boss raid kind of battles that got nerfed by a lot. They removed some zones and I think they even "removed" the abyss? I understand they want to speed up the lvling process but they got rid of a lot of the charm of the game. I'm disappointed by Gameforge. They bent over the game & fucked it in the ass. They ruined the improvements that the 6.0 patch gave us & made the game even more P2W... & yes i'm also very disappointed that Aion 2 is going to be a mobile game. I'd have loved Aion but then modernized to nowadays standards. I'm glad to see you made another Aion video & i'm glad to see you're sharing a lot of same sentiments i have with the game. Would like to see a Perfect World first look!
The game was incredible when it first came out, and for several years too. I'm sad you missed out on it too.. we used to have several hundred vs several hundred person battles for forts.. absolutely ridiculous back in those days. Just imagine 400 vs 400, 500 vs 500... it was crazy. I never really got into WoW or other MMORPGs around that time (SWTor was an interesting break for awhile.. and SWG before Aion PreCU was good too). Aion just... had something. It's a shame the game has gone to **** it really is. Before it was P2W and before it became beyond reasonable for grinding (I'm looking at you original level 70-75 grind...), I could honestly recommend it to anyone. I haven't played for years, I keep wanting to return... it hurts to see only 300+ average daily players... that to me is crazy. MMORPG's became a cesspool for businessmen wanting to squeeze pennies with P2W crap. It's hard for me to think of a truly incredible - current - MMORPG that balances fun/challenge with a reasonable time investment (rather than it being a second job....).
I’ve been playing Aion since US launch in 2009. I loved this game so much. It makes me genuinely sad to see it in the state that it’s in now. It would be so wonderful to see NCsoft make a sequel or reboot or something like that to revive the Aion IP
Loved Aion when it was launched. The graphics were amazing back then compared with the rest of the MMORPGs. Killing stuff was hard and not like now when you can just AoE everything, you actually had to be careful and aggro each monster at a time and take breaks between them to fill your life. There were no dungeons like I've seen in the video where you were constantly teleported in different areas to kill a room, but you could always form parties and do dungeons for rare loot even early on. Once you progressed, maps where the opposing faction could invade were unlocked and you were always on you toes, looking if you see a group of enemies rushing to you while you were doing your quests. It's nothing like it is now. It resembles more to a mobile game. Sad such a game was not invested in.
Aw man.. even tho it has changed a lot I'm still glad that I'm playing it. Ive started aion when it got released in 2008 till now. It has been a long hourney there were ups and downs to this game but it's still fun. Most aion players cling way to much to the past which makes them hard to move on but well.. it was and still is a fun game to play. The updated version is way easier to play than the old aion which makes its pretty easy for newcomers to play, which I think is a great feature.
This was fun to watch. I haven't played in years. I met my husband on this game, way back when... during its peak in 2012. We now have two awesome little boys, 7 and 6 years old.
@Khrysto Aion Official Did they remove the scrolls that give you higher stats which you could only buy via the store or very rare drops ingame? You need to notice my comment is almost 6 months old, and I talked about Aion when I last played it like 13 months ago.
My first mmo ❤️it used to be amazing, to me it still is... Great character customization, beautiful graphics and interesting classes!!! It's not as good as it used to be but to me it is still worth playing ❤️❤️❤️❤️
WOW....played Aion at launch with my 3 best friends. We got about halfway through the game before we jumped back into WoW, but the fun we had on vent for those couple months playing this game for a change of pace...Ive played almost every mmo available, and Aion is in my top 3 ONLY for the memories attached to it. I haven't talked to my 3 friends since 2012...and i know one has died from cancer. When i see anything about Aion i can literally still hear us all laughing on vent having such a good fucking time. Its crazy how a game you barely played in the scope of your gaming career can be so significant that i can bring back so many emotions in HD clarity.
You're not the only one who took their time. I like to enjoy a game and see all the places because I know in the end, there's gonna be grind anyway. Might as well enjoy a game while it lasts before getting into the competitive stuff. I did the same with Tera, and people complained it was grindy... Well, if people go straight into the grind and not enjoy a game, ofc its gonna be grindy...
In the beginning it actually took a long time to level up. I remember getting frustrated and quitting for weeks a few times before reaching the max. level. I think these days it's very easy reaching higher levels, because that's where you'll need to spend money...
13:30 of course you can make it smaller by clicking the "minimize" button in the map window. Also about the little mini map on the right bottom its super useful when it comes to dungeons and locating mobs in them.
Cool video, you can actually shrink the map. Just press M and on the right hand side there should an option that says "Switch to Small Transparent Map". You can also move the small map to anywhere on the screen as long as your skill bar isn't locked. You can check that by clicking the lock icon on your skill bar to the left of your skills, to unlock or lock your skill bar.
Everyone just look into Aion Private Servers if u still want to play, they r non-p2w and in the golden era patches of Aion. For ppl in the EU I would recommend EuroAion (4.6 Patch) or Aion Destiny (3.5 Patch)
@@RichieMotion almost the same goes for EuroAion 1k+ active players daily, only thing I got to say bout the servers is that Aion Destiny takes ages to level up and the community is mostly Russian but it has more players then EuroAion but on the other hand EuroAion is a more english population for sure, faster lvling too but lower pop then Aion Destiny
@@hh6119 Yes! I didn't even know that EuroAion was a thing, I just started Aion Destiny two weeks ago and yeah leveling up its hard and slow but damn I still enjoy doing those things. I started playing Aion in the 4.0 patch so 3.5 is kinda nice too for me , and yeah almost everyone on the server is russian but some of them speak english pretty fluent so I can do instances with them or open pvp :D! anyway maybe I start playing EuroAion, if they are 1k people but active its ok for me haha
@@demetori_enjoyer It's pretty good! Its easier than 3.5 but hard enough to enjoy doing instances, has more classes too and more maps also has the best map for pvp imo which is north katalam. If you have enough time I'd go to Destiny cause u know more about it and has more active players, they are russian so i dont know if that bothers you lol but if u have no time to level up and upgrade ur gear i'd go to 4.6 cause its faster even if there are less players!
I got it as soon as it came out in English originally and it was super ridiculously grindy, but still really fun. What happened that drove away a huge chunk of us was they imported some changes to the end-game pvp system that were designed around the Korean servers with their huge populations of players at the level cap, to the US servers with hardly any at all, and locked us all out of that content. My guild and at least three others collapsed overnight when we couldn't do the content we loved anymore.
i think N opens the transparent map , what i do is press M open map and resize it there (is just big or small tho) , now press N and u will have a smaller N-Map, N uses M-map size

I loved Aion back in 2009-2011, ah the nostalgia...
Valeria Dotsenko same
Favorite MMO back then :(
Fight me at Gelk fort i dare u!! ^^
I was playing Rappelz at that time... anyone else?
God I fucking miss this game :(
I remember doing a similar quest at around lv 50 for that gear.
I left when they sunk half the map several years ago and removed alot of stuff. It was an update that took away more than it gave and it completely demoralized me. I was a gunner master chef. @@oldmanjinkinsskyrim737 I played GW2 but the endgame is not so good. You farm gear, points... and after that? nothing to do...

@@nicolenazle6417 True, Gameforge could have bought publishing rights to a game I have more than nostalgic feelings for.
RIP AION, thank you for everything you gave me
I remember release when it was P2P it was really really amazing and so populated with some amazing people really had so much fun!
Relatable
Actualy, thousands of players moved from retail to private servers like EuroAion (4.6) or Aion Destiny (3.5). You can enjoy good old times there :3
Many Korean mobile games are and will be getting PC ports, so chances are Aion 2 thing will be on PC and mobile, NCSoft has something called Purple Platform that emulates old and mobile games for PC.
Uff Aion... thats one hell of a ride down the nostalgia road.

They seem to have changed the leveling system a ton, would take WAY WAY longer to get to level up.
Also they've changed a lot of the dungeons to be brain dead easy. They used to be really really hard.

Same here bro, 13 friends from my class, we starter 2009, but u know whats funny, we are still playing aion. Ofc not retail, but on private servers game is more than playable, 3.5 patch has 5+k online, 4.6 patch 3k peak, etc..game is still alive on old patches :)
I'm glad you decided to do another review on this game after actually playing it some time. Good vid. This game has some beautiful features.
This is so fun to watch as an old Aion veteran lol
2009 all the way to 2019 (a lot of quitting and coming back involved. usually return for every new major patch, just for some nostalgia)
Interesting to see it from the POV of a complete newb to Aion.
You specially notice it when you play BDO lol
But I got some god damn great memories out of it.
PS: It's both. Painter is quite OP, but leveling is also extremely easy. Unless you're a temp lol then it's just obnoxious.

capital city are now a joke , u cant visit 75% of the map anymore
Aside from this video - the bigger problem is that this game keep recycling content over and over, when it doesn't delete content.
Loved this game so much, played for a good 2 years since it started. PVP in the abyss was so fun.

gameforge does a very good job at handling the pay2win level of korea. if YOU don't wanna spend in a game it's YOUR choice. And again gameforge does a very very very good job at it. If you keep playing you don't even have to spend money in this game to get competitive. Seriously.
Everyone in this game has the same gear. And by now EVERYONE that has played for some time has GOOD transformations for FREE.

I miss Aion so much, this game was soooo good back when it released, soooo many players. I remember how my computer couldn't handle seiges in the Abyss...
yeah .. some 200 players in single room, you just see how boss'es hp slowly withers and if you get closer to the ceiling you get taken down by enemy
Exactly this, I got hardstuck lvl 45 or 46 which sucked all the fun out of the game and I never wanted to touch it again
oh god, perfect world would be such a nostalgia trip for me! go for it!!
How about PvE? Can we still be a F2P player for its PvE content only?

Totally. I played Aion at launch and it was a LOOOONG leveling process.
and then there's metin2
I also feel like the opposite was also true of a lot of older MMOs as well: Where there was only leveling content and nothing else at end game once your done with it which has also killed a LOT of MMOs.
this brings back so many memories.... played it from closed beta all the way to 1st expansion, then it was time to say goodbye...
as a tank i must have done steel rake like legit a thousand times for all my guild
Not under Gameforge.

(transformations)
And this is only a fraction of what you need to achieve. (Gear, transformations, enchanting skills, enchanting stigmas and so on)
The future patches (2 patches ahead in Korea) will bring even more p2w garbage,.
Quite frankly this is not aion, its just a facade for casino bullshit.
Even for returning players:
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this game. It will only bring you stress, frustration, and disappointment.
This is your game on Gameforge. Don't do Gameforge, kids!

I wish there was AioN "remasterd" with graphics alike BDO..
ur videos always make me laugh cuz I've tried EVERY MMO out there I think so far and half of the comments u make I was thinking. :)
The best combat i ve ever seen in a game. Easy to play hard to master classes with highskill ceiling but my wallet couldnt keep up with gameforge after 5.0
Used to play this on release when it was P2P, had a really good time with some great people for about a year
You should see the revamped Asmodian starting zone, it's actually pretty visually impressive. Way better than the Elyos one IMO. Sanctum is far more unique and interesting than Pandaemonium, though, which I suppose makes us even. :P
Also, if you didn't before (I forget), play a Chanter!
I think they just want you to reach endgame and start spending money on shop stuff.
the game started to be rly easy after the 1.5...
Terrifically good video, truly proud of you. (:
I think a lot of people aren't playing Aion on Steam though. (I for one didn't even know you could play Aion through steam.)
I used to absolutely love this game back at it's release when it was P2P.
Glad to see you revisit games. You have really matured when it comes to criticism now
The game was incredible when it first came out, and for several years too.
Would love to see a perfect world video please :D
You seem way more relaxed and real in this video. I approve of the "chill" change.
AION! sigh.. How I miss you
wow i played this game when it first came out in the us and it's so cool to see how much it's changed since then!
I remember leveling in this game, the last 5 levels took like a week of grinding. It was so fucking grindy
This was fun to watch. I haven't played in years. I met my husband on this game, way back when... during its peak in 2012. We now have two awesome little boys, 7 and 6 years old.
Aion was my damn favorite game for years. The massive pay 2 win elements and the constant upbringing and deleting of regions killed it.
@Khrysto Aion Official Did they remove the scrolls that give you higher stats which you could only buy via the store or very rare drops ingame?
You need to notice my comment is almost 6 months old, and I talked about Aion when I last played it like 13 months ago.
Loved Aion when it first came out. Even with the lag. I also had the best guild experience there. But it ended as fast as it began.
I remember that when I started playing, It took me almost a year (I took my time) to lvl up my first character to lvl 60... Good times it was
You're not the only one who took their time.
@@georges1636 yepp, there's no money in leveling players who's enjoying the game.
13:30 of course you can make it smaller by clicking the "minimize" button in the map window. Also about the little mini map on the right bottom its super useful when it comes to dungeons and locating mobs in them.
Lol perfect world, nostalgia right there.
Sure, cover it, why not?
Cool video, you can actually shrink the map. Just press M and on the right hand side there should an option that says "Switch to Small Transparent Map". You can also move the small map to anywhere on the screen as long as your skill bar isn't locked. You can check that by clicking the lock icon on your skill bar to the left of your skills, to unlock or lock your skill bar.
We need Aion 2, the introduction of this video already makes my heart ache.
Aion 2 will be mobile only
AWW Missed this so much, I remember always going for Kromede dungeons for the weapon skins!
Everyone just look into Aion Private Servers if u still want to play, they r non-p2w and in the golden era patches of Aion.
For ppl in the EU I would recommend EuroAion (4.6 Patch) or Aion Destiny (3.5 Patch)
I'm playing Aion Destiny and goddamn its pretty active more than 3,5k players every day
@@RichieMotion almost the same goes for EuroAion 1k+ active players daily, only thing I got to say bout the servers is that Aion Destiny takes ages to level up and the community is mostly Russian but it has more players then EuroAion but on the other hand EuroAion is a more english population for sure, faster lvling too but lower pop then Aion Destiny
@@demetori_enjoyer 4.6 was THE patch in Aion's history.
If I remember correctly you could just press "N" to change the map size.
i think N opens the transparent map , what i do is press M open map and resize it there (is just big or small tho) , now press N and u will have a smaller N-Map, N uses M-map size
I think I have probably found the only YT channel where I don't mind the commentary!
PWI's character creation is even more in depth
YetiKoalaAce ikr. I could spend hours for customization and spend bunch of makeover scroll
i met a lady on this game years ago called her mom and everything she seemed to really care about me and everything i started taking in game photoshoots with her all poses back drops lighting and everything.
issamar if youre reading this i miss you
i love aion with a passion. i play for fun and i only ever really PVE in mmorpg up into actual role playing.
wait you called her mom?
@@BangThaBazie yea. she was like a mom to me, so caring and loving
this is so wholesome
nostalgic, like the song of DION on Lineage 2 ahaha
I remember playing this when I was 8-9 years old on a computer cafe with bunch of people, bring back so much memories like grinding for stormwing gears
