  • Join us on a picturesque property as we start on building a simple block retaining wall. 🧱 We start off by meeting with the customer to quickly discuss the plan and expectations.
Our new crew is eager and ready to tackle their first retaining wall project with us. I’m on-site to provide guidance and answer any questions they have. However, one slip-up on my part leads to a major setback. After stepping away for a consultation on a garage build, I return to find that my earlier bad guidance has caused the crew to build the wall incorrectly. 😅
The team faces the tough task of starting over, and I feel awful for leading them astray. Watch as we work through the challenges, learn from our mistakes, and get back on track.

It happens to the best of us bro. Good job admitting your fault and not blaming on your guys.

most of the time when we lay wall we pour a small footer just a form on the front and just float out the back but just saves ya so much time getting the first course down and also sometimes lay the first ones when its stiffens up a bit

Need to dig out further back behind the retaining wall or you wont be able to place the geogrid so it actually works the way it’s intended to. Id also bury the first block. If that’s in a freeze area im afraid that wall will give once ice starts expanding and pushing the dirt.

Don’t you have to put blocks in the ground first to hold the weight?

How i get a perfect 1st course. Use 2x4s and string line to screed the gravel level, then compact, then screed level again. Now you have a hard level base to set the first course on.
Oh god and you guys put the first course on upside down. x) i hope you incorporated drain pipe and geo fabric.

Why are you using what looks to be dense grade? Open grade base is built to last

Question everything, even if you know you will get shouted at. Better to know than be made to look like an idiot.

What I’ve learned is never trust a contractor who doesn’t do the work himself

With that shit dirt you have to go deeper till you find better base then 2 feet gravel compacted in 2 to 3 in lifts come on that wall won't last 2 years
