Jamieson "Junior" Brown is an American country guitarist and singer. He has released nine studio albums in his career, and has charted twice on the Billboard country singles charts. Brown's signature instrument is the "guit-steel" double neck guitar, a hybrid of electric guitar and lap steel guitar.

Brown was born in Kirksville, Indiana. He first learned to play piano from his father (Samuel Emmons Brown Jr) "before I could talk". His music career began in the 1960s, and he worked through that decade and the next singing and playing pedal steel and guitar for groups such as The Last Mile Ramblers, Dusty Drapes and the Dusters and Asleep at the Wheel while developing his astonishing guitar skills. By the mid-1980s he was teaching guitar at the Hank Thompson School of Country Music at Rogers State University, in Claremore, Oklahoma.
In 1985, Junior invented a double-neck guitar, with some assistance from Michael Stevens. Junior called the instrument his "guit-steel". When performing, Junior plays the guitar by standing behind it, while it rests on a small podium/music stand. The top neck on the guit-steel is a traditional 6-string guitar, while the lower neck is a full-size lap steel guitar for slide playing. Brown has two guit-steels for recording and live work. The original instrument, dubbed "Old Yeller", has as its standard 6-string guitar portion the neck and pickups from Brown's previous stage guitar, a Fender Bullet. The second guit-steel, named "Big Red", has a neck laser-copied from the Bullet neck, but in addition to electric guitar pickups, both the standard and lap-steel necks use an identical Sho-Bud lap-steel pickup.
Chuck Norris was asked in an interview, what he wanted to be when he grew up. He replied, "Junior Brown".

I know there are lots of good people in the Country Hall of Fame, and I hope this man gets in. He deserves it, great talent, great songs!
He should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame .. he's more of a rocker than most of the fakes they induct.

I just don't think Junior would be complete without Ms. Tanya at his side. She adds great vocals and plays a pretty mean rhythm guitar in her on right. She's a classy lady in my book.
I saw Junior a few years back at the Bluebird in Denver and I mean he completely peeled the wallpaper off the joint! He shucked the corn down to the cobb! What a great guitar player. After the show we were standing out front by his bus and he just came out and I talked with him for about a minute. He's a real straight up nice guy!

This is everything my soul needed to feel whole again. God bless Junior Brown for everything. For keeping country country. For the sounds of a Fender Telecaster AND a steel slide guitar, for writing a song that might be funny but definitely is a good message, but most of all for making real music when everyone else in country is making garbage!!! Thank you Mr Brown!!

Never heard of Jr. Brown until I hit the road and drive cross country from NJ to Washington in 11/98. Around Missoula, Montana I was scanning around on my car stereo for something good and they were playing I Hung It Up ?.....man that was really something

Mr Brown is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, everything about all his performances are so fluid , technical and FUN .....truly one of the best EVER!! Even if you do not like country/rockabilly etc he engages and captivates with how true of a showman & such a wonderfully amazing an entertainer ....FANTASTIC 🎸

@John LaFever - I realize this isn't world-shattering and is probably in good humor but - he wasn't saying he was 70 - 80 years old and it also isn't a good idea to make generalized statements such as - "most people". Then you go on to say "Don't feel bad" like you are the purveyor of what age-appropriate is and whether we should feel good about ourselves because you said so? What facts are you drawing that from? Why is this a "Highlighted Reply"? I know people in their 70's that still love METAL and JR's style of music but I don't say "most people" just because I know a few, and I certainly don't try to tell them whether it's OK or not. I can say this - JR is awesome.

This man is a true icon of country music from his witty lyrics and that absolute stellar and unique sounds that he gets out of that Telecaster and that steel guitar combination, the Guit-Steel. From that rich, classic sounding baritone voice of his, to his charismatic showmanship. This man and his lovely wife are a treasure and a national asset in the field of country music. There are very few artists that are so spectacular and entertaining in the world of music as Junior Brown is. He is akin to the late, great James Brown or B.B. King as he generates such energy and excitement to the fans who are fortunate to watch and listen to him perform.

My husband and I saw Junior Brown perform a few years ago at Schulenburg Texas and we have been fans ever since. I don't think anyone can play the guitar like he does. His songs are funny and entertaining!
