Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans (Cartoon Classics 1964 dub)

- This is one of 3 dubbed versions of a Soviet cartoon from 1962 ➡️ www.imdb.com/t...
According to IMDB, "This film has no less than three different English versions, each of which recut the film and/or do soundtrack modifications."
"The first English release in 1964 was done by CCM Films under the banner CARTOON CLASSICS, INC., with ADR Script and direction by Bernard Evslin. This version rearranges shots from the movie and adds narration in scenes where there originally weren't any, to the point where they drown out some of the musical numbers."
"The second English release was done in 1991 by Kidpix and released on video by Just For Kids. This version replaces the songs with rock-and-roll/pop style songs from the music group Bullets."
"The third release was done in 1996 by Films by Jove, which rearranges scenes and totally rebus the music score with a new one provided by Thomas Chase and Steve Rucker, as well as all new songs by Rucker, Chase, and Pamela Phillips Oland. This version also includes big-name talent such as Carthy Moriarty, Danielle Brisebois, Jo Beth Williams, and James Coburn. This episode was briefly released on DVD by Image Entertainment."
Having seen the original and a different dub, this is in many ways the most butchered version... but also, the all-around best. These people knew what they were doing.
Yeah the most butchered. The worst.
Butchered indeed. It's absolutely awful.
What would you say is the best?
I've seen this same animation for the snow queen and it's absolutely one of my favourite movies! What is the original language if not English? I always thought the voices seemed a bit "off" although didn't put me off because of such incredible animation and story telling ❤️
@@emmanitamuscaria2104 Russian, of all things. ("Of all things" because I recall a Cambodian dragon fable about the cycle of tyranny on either this VHS or the accompanying one featuring Perrault's Beauty and the Beast. That may not have been a Russian production. But this definitely was.)
I wish today’s cartoons were like this for kids to see. Amazing avant garde graphics, they enhance imagination so much. Love this Andersen story, and imo every kid should watch it 😍
May your wish be granted.🪭🕯️🕯️
I use to watch this a few times as a kid and today I saw an illustration/artwork that triggered flashes of scenes from this and I could not think of what it was called or what it was about. I kept mentally searching and more parts came back in flashes and I could finally put enough together to google: children morphing into swans. And found it! So excited.
oh my god saaaaammmmeee
Same!!!!!
same here
Same situation but 7 years later lol.
I remember watching this 20 years ago
Yes i wach it
A most evil and sad story but it reminds us that consistent hard work, devotion and sacrifice can conquer anything!!
A great version, thanks!!
Oh god. I remember watching this everyday when I was around four years old. I never got tired of this. And I still love it as much as I did when I was 4.
This is missing -- When Elisa throws the shirts over the swans, her brothers return to their human forms. (Sadly, the youngest brother has a swan's wing instead of an arm, as Elisa did not have time to finish one sleeve of his shirt.)
I love this fairytale...it's one of the best...
That's an entirely different Russian fairy-tale, called "дикие лебеди" or "wild swans".
At least he's a human again so that's a good thing.
Watched this a kid, hard to believe this is really something I watched and not some weird fever dream. Still just as amazing as I remember
To think no child might ever have the pleasure I had when my mother softly read these fables to me like the Swan; the little match girl, many others saddens me.
Thank you for this.
That's a real alcohol & tobacco voice. I can picture him sitting in comfy 1940's armchair. A glass of whisky beside him in little table, and smoking pipe in other hand, and reading the book to kids sitting in floor.
wow good and u do'''t now et is bad?
True art. The music and drawings are superb. Russians made the best cartoons and animation for decades and were sought after in Hollywood after the Berlin Wall came down.
And... Where we are now?
Lel
Put the wall back up!
Wow, how your Soviets could convey emotions, it is hard to not hold back tears in a lot of places!
I have not seen this, in about twenty years, since I was a little kid.
OMG they CUT OUT my favorite song of the Prince to Elise! His voice was perfect!
они изуродовали наши мультики... зла на них не хватает

а что они сделали с Коньком-Горбунком... с Маугли...
The prince rather reminded me of Prince Phillip in Sleeping Beauty. Wonderful animation and musical score.
It much more complex and much better.
I grew up with this cartoon. Ooh man it's kind of crazy
I do love this story this aka the Wild Swans and the Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen and I agree if you truly love someone you do anything to save them no matter what
adapted by him from ancient Irish myth...the Children of Lir
I am proud that my country made this. I think this is not usual cartooon. It's art..
this cartoon was made in the ussr in the 60s
im not proud of you
This movie is nice
Такой страны как СССР , к сожалению, уже нет.
Like old movies like this. They make me feel good
I wish I could find the version that I had as a kid, it had more 80s themed music and was in English. It's good to finally watch it again after so long though. :)
you might be thinking of the Just for Kids version
The songs were cut from the film. Eliza's song (at the beginning of the film) and the Prince's song
the animation is gorgeous!
no et is not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@charlottegoddard3091 WTF
are you talking about?
Ностальгиииия ❤, старый добрый советский мультик)😊
This was my favorite childhood movie, I still have it on vhs !!! 🥰
Sadly this is almost completely different from what my VHS version sounds like.... Ima have to pull them out and try to put em on disk to preserve them
This is the version I remember watching in 2nd grade music class aside from Walt Disney's adaptation of Peter and the Wolf.
That wolf was SCARY, yes?
Even i love Soviet version of many of this fairies...i grew up watching them.ahhh
sweet memories of childhood
Ahhhh, brings back memories. One of my favourites 😊
wow..i remember watching this movie. i kinda remember the song that was played in this movie it went something like "the swans they're lost in the dream" lol gosh this movie brings back memories...
I am so glad I found this. It brings back memories of my childhood.
On 3:25 to me, that reminds of Walt Disney's version of the wild swans. It is so wonderful.
I loved their faerie tale as a kid, and I still love it now
I would love for this to get a Japanese dub.
This was one of Soyuzmultfilm's finest works.
this is sad. I still own a VHS copy of the original movie and this version has be changed and this is not completely how the story goes
+Nami Gen check the rest of the comments, there are other versions linked. we all seem to prefer the one we watched as kids, no surprise there.
+Nami Gen I've been having the same problem! The voices and narration are not how I remember the movie being.
+roseoznz Yes, but the original stays the original (the russian version), and it is strange to see that in every other version, they had to change everything.
that is normal for all the tails. here, take a look what I` ve red before! (put it in translate)ljubopitno.com/horor-originalnite-versii-na-detskite-prikazki
I know right
I love this movie and I've been looking for it for years!
So much love for this movie! 👍🏻 💚 👏🏻😘💚👍🏻
I love the classic feel and the voices are superb.
I've loved this version ever since I was a kid. The music and animation are beautiful.
i don't remember how old I was the first time I watched this movie, I do know i owned it on VHS though...think we got through the mail...lol. video club? I love this. the art is good and the story is so touching..
All these are oldest are goodies and this story is beautiful thank you.
I sat here and watched this for the whole hour eating baby gherkin pickles and drinking ice tea and coloring fot the whole hour.
And it was great!
this was beautifully sad. i like that she was true to her brothers and help them in the end i was worried that it would in end in sadness as much of Christian Hans story do.
i have a different version of this on tape (VHS) with no narration.
This is the one I grew up on this exact narration it's 2018 and I'm here I had this on VHS TAPE it took me forever to find this
I remember watching these when I was a kid, I don't know exactly how old I was but I was really young and I watched it just once but I remember the story so well.. I don't know if I owned a VCD version or if I saw this on TV.. but I love this and hope they make a 3D animation out of this or a live action movie!!!
I had these VHS and I miss them so much! I’d binge them all the time 😢🥹🥰
Oh my, I remember this from my childhood, how wonderful to watch it again! Thank you so much for uploading it!
OMG I still remember this movie when I was young! Thank you for uploading this!
This story is an exact replica of a thousand year old mythical Irish tale called 'The Children of Lir'. One of the 'Three Sorrows of Irish Storytelling'
Unfortunately, there is no decent English translations. Look cartoon in Russian with subtitles.
"She will be given straw to eat and gasoline to drink so she will burn more hotly."
... Wut?
that could be a joke by the archbishop -- oops -- prime minster guy
Yeah, that’s super dumb, I’ve no idea who translated it like this. In the original they say: «Приказ короля! Преступную королевскую невесту бросить в темницу! Приказ короля! Приковать к стене, кормить одним хлебом, вместо подстилки дать ей её крапиву! Приказ короля! Завтра сжечь её на городской площади! Так приказал король!», which means «The King's order! Throw the criminal royal bride into the dungeon! The King's order! Chain her to the wall, feed her only bread, give her her nettles instead of bedding! The King's order! Burn it in the town square tomorrow! The King ordered it!» So, no straw or gasoline, just bread, and that is just to show her that she’s not to be treated like king’s bride anymore, but only like a witch and a prisoner.
You should cite your materials correctly. This is a dubbed version of a Soviet cartoon from 1962 - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_Swans_(film). Thanks for sharing the English version!
thanks, added
I'm still looking for the version I grew up with. It had no narrator and when the witch made the frogs on the last one she said "and you my sweet. You will make her old." If anyone has found that version let me know.
I've been looking for this! now I know the name of it. :) my childhood
i used to watch this all the time when i was a kid... happy days
i grew up watching another version with different voices and these amazing songs D: cant find that anywhere online though :/
Yeah! I grew up with the beautiful singing version tooooo
ya that's what I'm trying to find too!!
hey are you guys looking for the one by Grims Fairytale Classics - the Six Swans? :)) Think it could be it, check it out and let me know! Good luck :)

The one thing I'll always dislike about this story is that he expects her to speak. Why can't he just come to conclude that she is mute?
I don't think you can't expect people in that time to have met a mute human before, they haven't had the possibilities to inform themselves too well.
@@SaChibiKon But mute people were known to exist back then. And even if they didn't, you'd think after a while the prince would just get it through his head that she can not talk.
The evil Queen reminds me of mother gothel, Tangled
This freakes me out a little at the same time but so many memories 2019
This is a VHS I remember from my youth. At the end, there was a story called The Woodcutter's Wish - basically, woodcutter gets Wish spell from D&D, uses it to court princess, princess's evil advisor tries and fails to use it to his advantage. And there was a companion VHS labeled Charles Perrault, containing Beauty and the Beast and - here's what I really want to see - a crazy dragon-slaying myth which, to my memory, is metaphorical for the cycle of tyranny. Hard to believe that last is of Soviet make, but anyway, it was totally packaged by these VidAmerica people and if there's any way you could post that, I would love it.
this?

"Sisterrrr... weee are swaaaaaaanssss...." O_o geezuz, did this freak anyone else out? They sound like the twins from the Shining. 😣
thank you so much for uploading 💞 glad i found it, i watched this when i was a child
Russian animation is definitely underlooked compared to its American, European, and Japanese counterparts.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER
bro this is it cool hope u drop more bangers
Beautiful! Im glad I found it ^_^
Beautiful thanks for sharing! A childhood favorite
Great story and a great video. Thank you very much for you time and labout
I wish they would make a movie or even a cartoon about the novel "Daugher of the Forest" by Juliet Marillier (which is based on this fairy tale but has also a historical aspect to it).
Thank you so much for sharing. What a wonderful work of art! 🌹
I'd kill for the original video of this that I grew up with. This is not only different audio-its been cut apart and had scenes switched around.
41:51 - 41-58 was clearly inserted from a different Soviet animated film.
I love this story, have read it over and over. Just now realized how bad that looked. Most evil spell made her black XD
In the version I remember as a child the evil queen/stepmother rubs her face with walnut juice(it does work as a dye turning things brown) and messes up Elise/Lisa's hair.
This was my favorite childhood story ^^
Why did they add so much author's text? As if it were impossible to understand the meaning without it. In the original there are only dialogs. And they also excluded the king's aria - the most beautiful cartoon love song according to my child's memories. 42 : 10
Дикие лебеди (по мотивам сказки Г.Х.Андерсена)

I am 98% sure that the prince has the same VA as the English voice of Speed Racer.
I have not seen this in almost twenty years!
The Shirley Temple Storybook show did a version of this story(but there were only three swan princes in that version).A few years later when I was in third grade,my teacher read it to the class.I later read the story in the second volume of a three volume series The Family Treasury of Children's Stories.
I can't believe I hadn't thought of this for years-- but I watched my english version VHS so much, I absolutely loved it.
Where is the song Elise sings to her brothers on the island?? I loved it when I watched the movie!!
i love the art
Even though I'm from the USA I've never seen this before or on Tv ever and not even in a book dam what am I missing out on in the Eastern world?
You have missed several generations of Soyuzmultfilm products. Alas, this is the result of the cold war of old farting politicians ( like McCain ) between the Western and Eastern world.
wow.. this is one old movie
I remember this movie from when I was little! Thank you so much!
Bernard Evslin is one of my favorite writers.
The English versions are cut and wrongly translated at times. I recommend watching the originals with subtitles. And I have to say, when I look back at my childhood, growing up in the 90s, Soviet cartoons brought me so much joy. But some of them have impacted me deeply. I was a happy kid, but I remember feeling deep anguish over the Little Mermaid, the Wild Swans, the Snow Queen, and the Ugly Duckling. Come to find out, its from the same author. Its too bad Hans was a pederast.
When the witch chanted the spell, it rained immediatly!!!!!! OMG
"Maybe she's better than she looks, I mean she'd have to be..." #ShotsFired
Beuatiful!
I remember this version :) ahh good days
Like a poem.. 😍සුප්පා
and why are all the queens evil? Everytime i see a story that is about a princess, almost every story says that the queen is an evil soceress, witch or anything evil
This remember me last unicorn movie. I love The bad witch voice acting perfect.
So wait, if while she was picking the last fiery nettles that night in the garden when the king was watching, she was "muttering and talking to herself", how were her brothers atill alive later??? Didn't it say they'd die if she spoke?
This new script was written by Allan Sheman expecially this awkward scene: 16:23 - 16:39
You don't like Allan Sherman, Here is the Non Allan Sherman version:
"watch?v=7tUNlbN4tj8"
This is a russian cartoon. This English dub has new scenes inserted from another Allan Sherman Cartoon.
OK so like that first dream she had about her brothers like is freaking creepy
Here is a link to the one with the songs. I had been looking for it for a few years now, so i hope you guys enjoy it :)

I had a version of this on vhs with a completely different English audio track. It was under the name "The Princess and the Swans". I can never find this with that audio
dear crow, hans Christian andersen had no children xD
Isn't there supposed to be more songs?
I like the story called the woodcutters wish
