- How to repair a rebooting, turning itself off, no signal, no startup.
Pretty easy if you can solder, if not, at least this will show you the steps.
***Update - The receiver was able to be activated easily and is working perfectly now for a week so far :) ***

THANKS for this!!!!! I just did my 9242 replacing the 7 main caps listed on the net and so far so good. A few glitches at first after the initial boot up, such as no guide. So did the download but it was still stuck at full after 7 minutes or so. Guide was there, but I changed channels and the unit froze up, so rebooted again and this time just waited out the 15 minutes or so and I guess it finished this time. Picture came on and guide available, channels change and PVR shows played last and first recordings, so all seems good. Thanks again!!!

Thank you for the video. I had fixed my 9241 a few months ago by replacing the HDD from an old 9200, it worked well even though some of those capacitors were a little bulgy.
Now i think its time to change them because its freezing up again most of the time at the transponder screen.
I was wondering if i could take the Caps from the same 9200. Or could it also be the fan because it seems to get too hot.
Chisasibi it's probably the caps but I would order new. it's only a couple values and digikey.com is cheap. the caps they use are garbage. thanks for watching and keep me updated :)
I got no more signal on my reciever (SAB). I looked inside and i see a bulged brown cap on a lil board that is attached where the coax input is. Will that be the problem?
Hi, great video. Typical of bell. I have two 9242 and the guide won't update, starts then 5 sec later back at main screen. I can't figure out how to force a guide update. Of course bell blames weather trees and anything else. Do u think a capacitor could be related to this? I also have no signal on the ld side of the receiver for most of summer. Not sure if related. Thanks!

Thanks for your quick reply! That pvr is in my bedroom and has been driving me crazy with it's all night warbling from the fan. My other pvrs are silent.

Probably issues in the tuner. Could be caps. Open it and do a visual

Hi There, I have a question perhaps you can help me with. I have a bell 9242 Sat receiver that is DOA. I have replaced the primary problem caps identified on line but no luck. The problem is the DVR boots up fine, but after a few min, the box shits down, loosing all connection to the TV an the fan in the box starts up going full wick and never stops. When you unplug it, the box immediately starts again for another few minutes before crashing again... I would hate to add to the landfill.... any thoughts? Thanks

Yea I did... everything there looks flat... I tested the large cap you pointed out. It is good, the power to the MB all looks good. What is odd is this happened a few months ago and I replaced 3 1200UF caps and it bounced back fine. This time I even replaced those caps again jut to make sure and again, they all check out. Admittedly I am not the best a soldering but I don't think that would be a problem so quickly...
Rob Gale it might not hurt to check the solder connections on the ones you replaced. there is also a large one in the power supply that goes bad and a voltage regulator in the power supply that often fail. could be that too
If that were the case, would not the power to the Mother board change when the box shuts down and the fan comes on? I did check the 200V cap with a multimeter and its capacitance is within range. If the power to the board stays the same, would it not suggest the problem is on the board and not the power supply? Thanks again for your thoughts.
Rob Gale you have to test the power at the output of the rectifier. you may see it move when the receiver acts up.
I have the same receiver, except it won't boot. Powers on and green and blue lights stay lit but just a black screen. Replaced bulged caps at C309, C288, C929 and C355, but still same issue. any ideas?

For my Bell 6131 (external hard drive connected by USB turns it into a DVR) the hard drive is formatted with a couple of ext3 partitions. In other words, it's Linux. I can connect the drive to a Linux computer and see the large files that must correspond to recordings, but they are encrypted and as far as I know the key is tied to the smartcard.
So yes, it is likely possible for you to transfer your recordings to your PC, but you won't be able to watch them.
