Two touring car legends from two different eras duking it out on track without contact. And then they both got overtaken by one of the most underrated F1 drivers of all time. What a race!
Great clip, but why are all these racing car Directors so obsessed with those lame pit crew 'reaction' shots ?? They all do it, Le Mans coverage is just insane for it, continuously showing shots of bored looking pit crews who just want to see what's going on, like the rest of the viewers, it's gotten out of hand. EIGHT times in a 5:21 clip we get to see pit crews sitting around, instead of car racing !!!!
That's the thing about SVG. He can keep a car under control even when he's pushing the car way beyond what it should be capable of. Well over 200km/h with all four wheels on the grass and he barely even slowed down, let alone crash. I think that was a safe overtake he attempted on the Ferrari, he was far enough forward on corner entry that in a V8SC race the Ferarri would have been black flagged for illegal blocking. The corner at the top of mountain straight can be taken flat and there's plenty of room to pass a slow care side by side. SVG did it on the previous lap with another car. If the car overtaking you can get up on your inside on the grass and still have enough grip to avoid crashing you out, then the Ferrari definitely had enough grip to take a wide line through the corner.
+Abhi Beckert That corner is not flat what are you talking about. If you go flat you get launched over the rise and you'll never get down fast enough to steer in. Maybe in quali. And anyway it was a dumb place to attempt a move by Gisbergen. Yes Salo was in the wrong, but Gisbergen should've known that that place is very dangerous to overtake and that there is always a chance the guy won't see him and shuts the door. A black flag for Salo isn't gonna get Gisbergen back in the race should they collide. A complete driver knows this and wouldn't have risked crashing the car and screwing over his entire team. But Gisbergen is young so I guess he's got plenty of time to calm down.
I think Salo should have opened his eyes. He was on cold tyres, had SVG right behind him across skyline and the blue flags are waving - So get out of the way! Also these cars are not V8 Supercars, so they actually handle well and do things that would be crazy in the V8's.
Murphy got some worry on his shoulder With SVG up for contention for being best NZL circuit racer. Mate the way the car shakes around at the corners at 200kmh Plus is Either the car beyond the Limit Or Van Gisbergens Astonishing Car Control. Fantastic driver!
I think there are 4 classes in total, the fastest being the FIA GT3 cars. Multi class racing thats just how it's done in long distant racing there is always a battle on track, but they tend to focus on the GT3's a bit much at bathurst 12 hours I find we don't really get to see other battles in the other classes but rather just word of mouth during the races
That's the way you drive in a 10 lap sprint, not a 12 hour race, It looked great for the spectators, but definitely a move I wouldn't have called very wise.
LOL. Watches 5:00 highlight reel of a 12:00:00 race and then complains about other motorsport being comparatively boring for 90% of the time... Sorry, I do actually understand where you're coming from - Bathurst is a great track, GT cars have the best engines, and these are arguably some of the best (certainly most prolific) drivers in the world. It just made me laugh a little, of course 12 hours' worth of racing in 5 minutes is going to look pretty exciting :)
“Bad decision making… a low percentage move.” I agree. He’s a fast guy and I don’t think anyone questions that. Salo was no threat to him, especially since Schneider had clearly backed off.
@Abhi No way could the Ferrari have gone wide onto skyline at mcphillamy 2 reasons, he had cold tyres on and there is a lot of marbles on the outside around there and it curves around a lot more than it looks. But I do think Salo turned in on him, had he kept the steering open a touch long Shane would have been able to sneak through or at least to side by side. Just my opinion. But I must say what a great race this was, the battles were unbelievable. I don't like Shane but the bloke can drive and he puts on a good race that's for sure. Well done maranello motorsport as well. Great work by everyone. BRING ON 2015
Two exceptional drivers. I'm especially impressed by Schneider, he's the one under massive pressure. Ha! And then he says: meh I've got 7 hours to go, this guy looks like he's about to crash, let's back off for a bit. What a pro.
Peter Timowreef Absolutely, but its a boring ass first half of a race if everyone just moves over because theres a long way to go. Endurance races use to be about getting the car to the end, which meant you couldnt just run flat out all the way, modern cars can and do just go flat out all the way and the drivers that win do the same.
FKN watching the crew and coDRIVERS during racing SUCKS. I know not uploader they get thumbs up. Freakin wanting to show the wife rather than the race. Bloody hell. Then replay of persons reaction. Fkn hell. :)
+Nick P Salo should have gotten out of the bloody way, there were blue flags everywhere and he knowingly cut right into SVG's line despite the McLarens front being in front of the windscreen of the Ferrari.
The entire 12 hours of the race was well worth watching, best racing I've seen ever.
Only 6 hours of racing. 6 hours of feel good people reaction waste of time. Arghhhh. Is great racing.
After SVG's win in chicago this appeared on my recommended section, i didn't know he raced against Mika Salo !!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG
3:08 I must admit, those little fiats are faster than I thought they would be

The 12 hour is the best race on the calendar hands down!
Now that is racing.

Abhi Beckert Yeah he had the gap, Salo just turned down on him like a wanker
+Abhi Beckert That corner is not flat what are you talking about. If you go flat you get launched over the rise and you'll never get down fast enough to steer in. Maybe in quali.

Love these cars and racing action. Real racing! I hope F1 doesn't destroy itself with the BS they pulled in recent years (especially 2014)
Was going to post similar comment.
So +1 for you.
VID Trax Yet he has 0 +1's haha
The22yardstare LOL nope
I find WEC and Le Mans more entertaining than this. I'd still watch F1

They have v8 engines, just more aerodynamically sound
Schneider never made it in F1..but he always performed VERY well in anything else :-)
He ´s around for decades now!
"MP12-4C"
Really mate? smh
@Cruz Jude what is it

Why are there Fiats?
Multiple classes are racing at once.

Giz had his nose in front of Salo's A-Pillar, thats a fair move, racing room required. nothing wrong with that.
it’s more of a stupid move than a dirty one

Gizzys Adrenaline must've been going off, fukn love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
there's a FIAT right there
what TV service can i get that will show more races like this? i have velocity but its pretty boring shows 90% of the time
Google. "Australian Motorsport Coverage"
V8s Superview. You get qualifying and every race for a steal $/race.

why cant there just be an awesome channel that shows racing like this all day..

Australian V8 super cars, heaps of crazy kiwis and aussies.
Real Supercars thankyou
Do you have a recording of the following pitstop where SVG and Schneider pits at the same time?
“Bad decision making… a low percentage move.” I agree. He’s a fast guy and I don’t think anyone questions that. Salo was no threat to him, especially since Schneider had clearly backed off.
Wow gizzy risky moves there
looks like a good battle....
Svg and max verstappen are my favorite drivers

those drivers are top of the world
SVG was just letting Salo know he was there.
Close doesnt count.
absolutely the best car, that's why I always run in Iracing with McLaren. I love that car hahaha
That lil Fiat musta shit himself hahahaha
Why is there a Fiat racing on the same track at the same time as a Mclaren, Ferrari, Mercedes etc...
Because it's a multiclass race?
Epic racing highlight: *exists
Every comment section: fuck F1
I gotta ask, why is the Ferrari 'racing' the mclaren when he's a lap down?
2:32 Big balls !!!
Through the whole video I was just cringing at how the commentator mixed up the Mclaren's name.
2:48 fiat 500
Nearly threw it all away.
