    My son and some of his friends like to go on 4 or 5 day hiking/camping trips with only what they can carry on their backs. He likes to raid my home made MRE's for the trips and now his friends want him to get some for them too.
    I don't mind, especially after I started finding $100 bills taped to the door of the storage room.
    Their hands down favorite is the chicken and rice.

      Aww, that is so sweet! I personally think homemade MREs are the best because you can eat some of the comfort foods you are used to, and have more control as to what you put in the meals. My cheesy chicken and rice is one of my most favorites, for sure! Thanks for watching and subscribing! God bless!

      I had the same thing happen. I was just sick, all that work of dehydrating and then preparing the MRE's, writing instructions, etc down the drain, or I should say down their throats. The buckets (food grade) are not real expensive, but so worth it.

      Ummm...I did seal the bag, starting at 1136. But, if you meant why didn't I seal the baggie? Well, that is because you want to make sure that you can get all of the oxygen absorbed from the food. If you seal the baggie, then oxygen can remain inside it. Any oxygen left inside the baggie could cause the food to spoil sooner. Thanks for watching! God bless!

    • @ChristianPrepperGal

      I haven't tried eating any of the Hamburger Gravy and Mashed Potatoes meals in a bag recently. The ones I have tried over the course of the past year have been just fine. I have recently eaten other meals in a bag that I've made around or over a year ago using the Mountain House freeze dried cooked ground beef (which has a 30 year shelf life) and they have been just fine. I do store my meals in a bag in a cool, dry, dark place. And, I store any leftover freeze dried and dehydrated foods properly: in mason jars that have had air removed using a vacuum sealer with a jar attachment and kept in a cool, dry, dark place.

      @@Tina-7773 I'm sorry, but unfortunately, opening and using what I made is not going to help you decide how long your dehydrated hamburger will be good for. They are two different things. What I used in this meal is not home dehydrated hamburger meat. It is freeze dried hamburger meat that was prepared by a major manufacturer using an industrial grade freeze dryer. Dehydrated hamburger meat done at home is only good for approximately a year when stored properly. Home dehydrated hamburger meat is not something that I actually recommend using for long term food storage as there are a number of things that can cause it to go rancid within a short period of time. I'm truly sorry that I cannot help you with this. Perhaps you can do a UA-cam search for dehydrated hamburger meat and find someone that may be able to help you with your question. Christian Prepper Gal I bought a home freeze dryer and researched from there. Plus I was in the military for 18 years and always wondered why we never encountered sandwich type bag material in our rations. I basically looked everywhere I could on the internet about long term food storage and found out that way. A sandwich bag will last a while but not for 25 plus years. Just mix all your ingredients then add your oxygen absorber then seal your Mylar bag as far down as you can. The food is going to be mixed with water anyways so why take the risk? I’ve watched MRE videos from armies all over the world and zero of them use any type of sandwich bag material for long term storage because they will in fact leach into the surrounding food. I even tried it with a #10 can of Mountain House scrambled eggs. I emptied most of the contents of the can and put the rest in a sandwich bag then added an oxygen absorber and then resealed the can. Over a year later I reopened the package and tried it. It was still edible but you could taste the plastic. Research it a little and you’ll see what I’m telling you is true. Good luck in your prepping. We need people like you if anything ever happens. Take care and stay safe. Trump 2020 🇺🇸

      @ChristianPrepperGal  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Wanella! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You can actually put the rice or beans directly into a mylar bag (no ziplock baggie needed). However, the size of mylar bags would be dependent upon the amount of food you want to put into them. For instance, if you wanted to break it down into the amount needed for individual meals I would suggest using the pint size mylar bag for 2 cups rice, the quart size for 4 cups, etc. If you are thinking of putting two bags of rice (2 pound bags) into one mylar bag, then I would suggest using the gallon size. The same goes for beans. It's something you will have to try to see which works best for you, but hopefully, this will help you decide where to start. Do not forget that with mylar bags you will also need to purchase oxygen absorbers. Your foods inside the mylar bags will last longer using the oxygen absorbers and any bugs or larvae in the rice or beans will be killed for a lack of oxygen. But, do not put oxygen absorbers in mylar bags with sugar (of any type) as they will turn the sugar into bricks. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching, and God bless!

      @@ChristianPrepperGal Thank you so very much! I have never tasted freeze dried ground beef, but I sure am going to give it a try. I do remember trying some MRE's after hurricane Katrina but they did not taste that great, but if your hungry enough...something is better than nothing. God bless.💛

    How does the cheap sandwich plastic bag hold up without contaminating the food.

    • @ChristianPrepperGal
      @ChristianPrepperGal  4 роки тому

      Because the sandwich bag is not sealed and it is inside the mylar bag with the oxygen absorber which draws all of the air out of both bags. You can choose to not put things in a separate baggie if you want. Thanks for watching, God bless!

      The cheap sandwich bag doesn’t hold up. It will leach into the surrounding food. Just throw all ingredients together. It’s all gonna be mixed together anyway. I was in the army for 18 years and not once ever did I see a bag inside of a meal pouch. All plastics were always separated by another Mylar bag.

    why not add the burger to the spuds ??

      Thank you for your question! I do suppose you could do that if you wanted to. However, the reason I don't is because the hamburger meat takes longer to re-hydrate than the ingredients in the baggie do. Thanks for watching, and God bless!!

    is there any way to seal the bag a second time?

    • @ChristianPrepperGal
      @ChristianPrepperGal  4 роки тому

      Yes, you can seal it the same way. But you might need to cut below the zipper part if you use bags with a zipper.
