    Hi - I'm hearing everyone say that cooking re-hydrated brocolli isn't good on it's own as a side dish, without the sauce. Why is that? Too chewy or what? Thanks

  • @LouieLou998

    Is the parchment paper necessary? If so, why? I’m just curious if you have tried without. Thanks for posting this video. I’m definitely gonna try this. I think this would be great with rice, and canned, or freeze dried beef. Just add some dried onions, and a packet of stir fry seasoning, or a packet of beef and broccoli seasoning.

    Freeze dry your own cooked healthy meals using dry ice , if you don’t have a dry freeze machine, seal and store like the fancy ones. Takes 24 hrs pound for pound food and dry ice. Might not last 25 yrs but will be good at least half if not more of that. Use th Mylar and oxygen abs just th same but real potatoes meat veg are much nicer

    Wifey picked up some Idaho brand instant mash potato in a box. I told her to make sure the only ingredient is dried potatoes. Unfortunately the ones she got have about six ingredients in which I can barely Pronounce. They aren’t the cheesy ones. I think I just might put them in some large canning jars with O2 absorbers so I can keep an eye on the color and have them at the ready for soups and things. I have a hankering for potato cakes but really the reason I wanted these was for long term but I’m just gonna use them up within the next couple months and locate some tater flakes only if I can.

    • @ChristianPrepperGal
      @ChristianPrepperGal 2 роки тому

      That's exactly what I would suggest doing. Even with other ingredients they should be good for maybe a year or so if you put them in jars with 02 absorbers 🙂. Thanks for watching! God bless you and yours!

    • @ChristianPrepperGal
      @ChristianPrepperGal 2 роки тому

      Thank you for watching, and for your question! You could use a vacuum sealer and vacuum sealer bags, or put them into glass canning jars and seal with vacuum sealer & jar attachment or add oxygen absorbers. I hope this helps! God bless!

    • @mnight207

      @@ChristianPrepperGal Thank you. So, vacuum sealer bags are sufficient? Ive seen people put the flakes into brown lunch bags and then vacuum seal them. Is that fine? God bless you!

    • @ChristianPrepperGal
      @ChristianPrepperGal 2 роки тому

      Yes, vacuum sealing in bags will work; and the brown paper bag is a great idea! However, the vacuum seal bags do not last as long as mylar bags. I would suggest checking the bags every few months to make sure they haven't lost their seal due to tiny holes or decomposition. If they have lost their seal, I would use those up and then replace them 🙂.

I am in the middle of a transition right now which I will explain about once the videos are started up again. I'm so glad that I can be of help to you! That's what this is all about for me. Making do with what we have available is an excellent skill to have! God bless you!

      Thank you! It was an awesome time! He's actually re-married and upgraded to a different and more established homestead (in the very southern Ozarks of Arkansas) since this video. Hopefully, I'll be putting out a new video on that soon! A shout out would be nice, I will return the favor if you do 🙂. God bless!!

    I think I would have put the gravy and broth mix with the hamburger and the rest with the potato or it could just become a sloppy gravy potato mess? Otherwise looks great.

    Is there any reason you use hungry jack as opposed to other brands?

    • @ChristianPrepperGal

      No specific reason. You can use any brand, just make sure the only ingredients are potatoes because cheeses and other dairy products would reduce the shelf life to only being approximately one year

      @@ChristianPrepperGal You added powdered milk, butter and cheese. How is this any different than pre-packaged instant potatoes such as Idahoan Premium Instant Mashed Potatoes that has the same ingredients?

      @@jeff8039 Buying Hungry Jack gives the freedom of choices. We're on a salt restricted diet. I can make the same recipe, as shown here, leaving out the salt. If someone wants salt, they can add it, themselves when they eat. I can store some Hungry Jack without any added ingredients for longest shelf life. Certainly can't do that with Idahoan Premium that contains sunflower oil, if memory serves. For those who can eat dairy, it is included in Idahoan. I can substitute a non dairy product when using or storing Hungry Jack in recipes. With Hungry Jack, I can have the best of both worlds. Store some for long terms. Store some in recipes for convenience that'll be used before shelf life ends. Can only do the latter with Idahoan Premium. Not forgetting the salt it contains either!
