An excellent idea. I have one for my fridge as it's part of my effort to save money on the electric that would be better spent on things in life that I enjoy with my kids. We have a 3 bedroom house (3 kids) and the electric bill is about 36 dollars a month because we always watch what we spend on things like utilities. The water is around 27 per month. The rest of the money goes right toward fun things to do every month.
I can't believe I found somebody who is doing almost the same thing as I am....the only differences is I got it shut off for three hours and then come on for just one hour (And then repeating the same thing again) which is enough to cool it down at night! 💪
I seen a cool video the other day a guy used a deep freezer chest type and turn it in to a frig they are better insulated than a frig and when you open the door all the cold are does not fall out because it is a chest type. the only problem is most house you can not fit a chest type freezer in the kitchen. but it was a cool idea great video
this would be useful for lights when you're away from home - unless you went ahead and got one of those smart power strips that you can control from your phone
Hi. I really like this idea as my fridge is just plugged into the wall and always runs. I think it is smart to put it on a surge protector! I have two big questions because I'd like to do this for a property we are not at all the time so it seems crazy to run the fridge all the time when we aren't at the property except for a few days a week. 1) What happens to the settings when you lose electricity? Does it just turn on again when the electricity comes back on or does it stay off until you reset it all? 2) Will something like this work for an electric water heater?
Country Frau There are timers for electric water heaters. Easy to install (watch UA-cam videos for how to). I've had one in for years and works like a charm.
I watched UA-cam videos to install my electric water heater timer and it's been running for 6 years with no problems. The tank is insulated. It definitely reduces the cost! More recently I put the fridges/ freezer on timers but my wife kept unplugging it because she thought the food would go bad. It won't! I tried to prove it to her but... No go. I've secretly just reinstalled them so I hope I can see if they make a difference!
We use these devices a lot in Jamaica. It would have been nice if you showed us how to program it.
