Thanks! You gave me an idea for my next suggestion. You liked the first singer, Tom Englund, from the band Evergrey. I suggest you take a listen to one of Evergrey's newest songs "Falling from the Sun." Use the official video, it's fire, literally.
My wife and I traveled from Chicago to go to this concert, and it was amazing! The whole trip (which included 2 days in Paris, 2 in Tilburg and 1 in Antwerp) probably cost less that two tickets to see Taylor Swift (not that I would go to that). The tickets to this sold out so fast that they had to add two matinee shows, which it how we managed to get our tickets.
Again, it’s not even possible to imagine the live experience. I was in tears at the end of this one, in person. The emotions are so strong. I saw two of these concerts, as a gift to myself for my birthday the month after.
There's people from many different countries in that crowd. Every new Ayreon show sells out in minutes. With the demand for tickets they could do full week of shows and sell out every one.
He capital H is indeed a maestro, a genius. The God of Prog. This song makes me so happy. The joy of all of them experiencing a tremendous high out of pure joy performing together. This performance shows how the world should work. But that's a completely different story. This is life expanding music. Vitamines for the soul. Extremely healthy to listen to. Arjen, You have a gift!!!!
01011001 Live Beneath the Waves is the Sep 2023 concert. 9:00 "He's definitely got a Magnetism to him.." Did someone say magnetism? Is this a subliminal hint abt your next reaction VC? 😁 --> from the Ayreon Universe Live 2017 concert: "Ayreon - Magnetism" - ua-cam.com/video/4V3lGTA8Mpo/v-deo.html We were there at this fantastic show in Ayreon City (Tilburg) and I can tell you that for us, Jonas Renske really was the star of this song. Also notice his growls in the earlier part with all of the songsters taking turns 🤘
Great song. Arjen Lucassen projects are gifts that keep on giving. One of the singers you have asked about is Jonas Renkse and I highly suggest Ayreon - Comatose (from Universe Live concert), where he sings with Anneke Van Giersbergen. Very short song for Ayreon, but very effective mood changing song.
The opening vocalist is Tom Englund from Evergrey. Floor is featured on there song/ video In Orbit . This is one of many Floor guest features with metal groups.
this was such an overwhelming and awesome performance to have witnessed live. They used surround sound, so the music was really was washing over you, sweeping you off your feet. The vocalists whose names you're wondering about are all Swedish: the opening vocalist is Tom Englund (band: Evergrey), the gentleman with the long dark hair and the mesmerizing voice is Jonas Renske (Katatonia), and the vocalist with the glasses is Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation) 🤘
As with every Ayreon album, it is a concept album with each character being portrayed by one singer. Unlike the previous album The Theory of Everything, it marks a return to science fiction and the Ayreon storyline; it acts, in particular, as a prequel to 01011001, making it the first album in the storyline's chronology. In The Source, the Alphans, ancestors of humanity, try to prevent the extinction of their race from machines who took control of the entire planet Alpha, by sending a select few Alphans into space so they can attempt to start anew on a distant world. After fleeing their planet Alpha, the survivors (forever) find themselves on the water planet Y (01011001) where they slowly but surely lose their emotions, as a result of the increasingly influential technology: emotions are no longer necessary, and so civilization loses them. They are unable to find a solution to the problem on their own planet, until they come up with the idea of sending their DNA to another planet as an experiment. This eventually works; With a comet they send their own DNA towards Earth, from which humanity subsequently arises. Humanity is Forever's experiment to experience emotions again. Things were going well on Earth for millennia, but things are going downhill over the course of the 21st century; Humans are also starting to become technologically developed, and machines are taking over more and more of daily life. Humanity is slowly suffering the same fate as Forever. A war ensues, and scientists - in a last ditch effort - develop a time machine that will send a message to the Middle Ages to warn humanity. (see album The Final Experiment)
Ah, a Hurley-Gurley that is a stringed instrument and is played like a bow, but is is a rotating drum that generates the sound. Lady playing is Patty Gurdy.
8:42 Jonas Renkse is playing The Historian (of Forever race) 14:38 Daniel Gildenlöw from Pain of Salvation - another crazy cool prog band - you definitely should check them out.
Additional information to my priority request (see native Howl reaction) of "Strange machines" by The gathering: Anneke van Giersbergen is the woman you see at 14:27 The requested video shows her back in 1996
Hell yeah this was the show I was at well I was at one of them at least, so I do not know all of the singers. But Hansi Kürsch was the one standing next to Damian Wilson on that balcony thingy halfway through the song and I know him! River Of Time from this concert is a duet between Damian and Hansi so that is a great song for if you love both voices (like I do). His band is Blind Guardian which I also had the pleasure to see live in fact it was in the same venue as the Ayreon shows. I think I already recommended a few Guardian songs but I am just so excited for the day you discover them.
@@karolbartos8869 Age Of Shadows is indeed great for the Marco, Floor and Hansi combo but the version of this concert is more accurate to the album version. Choices.
You asked what character Jonas Renske was playing. I'm afraid I'm not sure, but he is part of The Forever - the race of immortal beings that live on Planet Y (01011001). They were originally known as Alphans and lived on the planet Alpha which became uninhabitable once they gave complete control of the environment to Artificial Intelligence (as per The Day That The World Breaks Down and Everybody Dies). They were upset when humanity on Planet Earth wiped themselves out as we were their descendants, as they put their DNA on the comet that hit the Earth and killed the dinosaurs (the fifth extinction).
I want to do a special shout out to Britney Slayes of Unleashed the Archers. She is the lady in the black T-Shirt and black cargo pants center stage at the beginning of the song. Not only did she get to sing her Star One (another Arjen project) song Fate of Man (inspired by the Terminator movies) Arjen asked her to fill for Floor (who was too close to her birth date to participate) and sing all her parts from the 01011001 album in the show. That should be an indication of how fantastic a singer she is. She is like the unholy offspring of Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson. Unleash the Archers are like a modern version of an old school power metal band. Going to see them in concert next Friday in Boston opening for Powerwolf, another fantastic power metal band. Awakening is the usual introduction video for Unleash the Archers, ua-cam.com/video/gqUPGa15Oto/v-deo.htmlsi=P5crnOTGjQIXqHUz, but I also love Time Stands Still, ua-cam.com/video/liOpF1oHhu4/v-deo.htmlsi=AoMElv38yxxqUJuN. Arjen discovered Brittney from a video on Unleash the Archers YT channel of Brittney singing Queen of the Reich in a karoke bar in Scotland after doing a whole show earlier in the night. ua-cam.com/video/280DRqoGyLw/v-deo.htmlsi=-rMNoba1DTYzrGTr Pretty impressive for a recording on a cell phone! Also love Simone and Anneke's outfits here. There was a running joke among some commenters where Arjen was like, ok everyone lets wear black for the show and Simone and Anneke were like nope, we want to wear something sparkly! They do look pretty fantastic.
Thanx for reacting to this great song! It's such a shame that Arjen always writes such short songs. I like your interpreation of the song which comes pretty close to mine. I've been not to this particular show, but to the first one on saturday, and I can confirm that these shows are even more overwhelming when you're part of the crowd. Wow, look at YOU !! Racking up the Ayreon reactions behind my back. For me, it's truly a tossup between Epica (such an intense experience) and Ayreon live (also right up there on the intensity scale) I think this is your first from the 2023 Live Beneath the Waves show. I'm glad you gave the early cuts their due, because this is just beyond my imagination. I think you asked what the very first instrument was : I believe that the audio-mixing of a cello, synth, bass, and down-tuned guitars. The first lead lines always reminded me of the sawing of youthful violinists, in search of Jim Carey's Most Annoying Sound in the World, But a Very WELL EXECUTED youthful sawing. These end-of-the-concert songs are a binge of talent overload. I personally Can't Wait until you get to "Fate of Man'. May your arms tip a full yard pint, and your timbers be shivered. Scrape the bottom of the m'lasses hogshead for the treacle that numbs. (not sure why I'm waxing piratey... Anne Bonny, Mary Read and Calico Jack have nothing to do with these songs) I'm clamber on board for more Ayreon, when you please.
Hi Deb may I suggest The court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, onward and awaken by Yes and Please don’t ask me to dance by Eddi Reader (you’ll need toilet roll/tissue for this one). A slight detour to the regular path which I enjoy your reactions too.
