I just got my Ultra Tee V5 and wanted to watch you open yours first before I open mine. I feel like it is Christmas morning too. I look forward to your videos using this machine!!! Have fun.
You were excited opening your new purchase, enjoy putting it together and testing it out faceting. I'm looking forward to your new videos and the fantasy cuts later. Thank you for sharing.
Ultra Tec actually makes another bigger and more expensive faceting machine, the Glass Tec. The Glass Tec is designed for people who facet glass, but it also works great for faceting bigger stones. I have started by cutting stones 18 mm, 21 mm and 27 mm in diameter, and I am confident that I will be able to cut much larger stones. The Glass Tec is designed and built to be very sturdy. I agree that the quality of the workmanship and materials in the machines produced by Ultra Tec is outstanding.
This is the machine I have put an eye on for a while now. Unfortunetally atm I don't have the space for a cutting place and with all equipment more than 5000$ (plus customs and oversea shipping) not the money to just spend on a hobby (though selling cut stones might get me some money back and I live near the town that's the jewellery center of our country since the 1760's. But most producers buy cheap stones from Asia, so I have no illusions that I could easily sell my stones, even if they would turn out pretty nice). So I will enjoy your future cutting videos and delay my little dream to maybe the future... At least your enthusiasm about your new machine tells me, I would have made the right choice for the equipment :D
One must not forget the Polymetric Scintillator, it is the machine that I am currently using, and I am very impressed with its precision, as well as its overall build quality
What Machine do you thinks will win the battle? Polymetric scintillator or the ultra tec v5? Be honest , I know both will make the same quality job but wish one has more futures? And advantages mechanically ⚙️ talking
Many Thanks Steve, for the informative and helpful Video. The V5 is also my first choice. My order will be placed in January at the latest. I worked for a long Time, to make this Dream come true and I am very excited and full of anticipation to be able to cut my first Stone on this magnificent Machine💎😁👍
Hello , thank you so much for your nice movies and informations, I am left handed and decide to buy a V5 (DAD) Ultra Tec machine, somebody advice right handed machine ! What is your advice . Best regards Prof. Saito from Japan
Got my 2/3 of VL yesterday. Waiting on the DAD and some loose parts!! Thanks for being a great voice!!! Any chance u r still doin the rough offer? Took 4 months to get my machine but it’s here! I can send my invoice! If not no worries. Happy faceting.
Joseph as I am a rep for Ultra tek I do offer a piece of rough if you let them know I was the reason for your order. If you can or did let them know I will still send the rough.
I am planing to get one. But will you be kind to tell the difference between VL and V5. I can not decide as long as don’t fully understand the difference. Tank you and congratulations on your fin perches. 🙏🏻
As I have not used the VL I can’t give a recommendation. They basically operate similarly and the company makes a quality product. I would recommend the digital version. Ask your question to the Ultra tec gem facet or group on facebook.
Hi, is it better that One can adjust the speed of the mashine, or, is it just a nice to have, but Not neseserry? Sry for my bad english. I m at the beginning and Lockung for a mashine. So the sterling ist very interesting. And another question: a mashine for About 300€ is useless? Or a thing I Van work with? Do I realy have to pay at least About 2000€? Thx if u answer.
Hi, I am a looking at gem cutting as a hobby for my retirement. I like the V5 and the VL. I wold like to understand the advantages of digital over analog? Is the DAD upgrade truly worth me premium ?
I have used both types and my favorite machines are digital or electronic metering as is the case with the Facette. Increased accuracy and speed are the advantages. So many designs have angles in a fraction of a degree. That said you can cut a great gem without digital. You can buy a VL and add the meter later if desired.
@@Moregems Hi, as much as I would love to start off with the V5 but just the cost on the Currency conversion from Canadian to US at almost .27 cents on the dollar it is very hard to pull the trigger. Not to mention when you ship it to Canada they will charge you 15.5% sales tax.
Hi Steve, Thanks as always for your posts and inspiration. My "Unboxing Day" is coming in September. I've been in the trade(s) for decades and have cut 100's of cabs, inlay, custom cutting and now that I have the time, my focus will be on faceting. I've read into Tom Herbst's books and have some nice rough too, mostly quartz varieties. If I should, and I'm certain that I will, have a question, what is a good resource? P.S. V5!
Awesome! Glad to hear you got a machine. There is a Ultra Tec Gem Faceting User Group with over 2.8k users. That may be a good place to start or you can feel free to reach out to me.
Sir i love your work like a lot it helps big time........and i would really appreciate your guidance about where to acquire a used Ultra Tech V2. Been looking for connects about it for quiet some time now. kindly reply
I hope it is $4,950.00 is that the correct amount? As you can tell by my question I have no idea about this profession. I would like to get a machine to work stones as a hobby( if you will). Thanks
Hi! Yes, that is the price for the machine that I am unboxing in this video. You can see more details or purchase it direct from the manufacturer here: Rebrand.ly/SteveMoriarty -- They also have a new ULTRA TEC VL Classic Faceting Machine, for $3,495.00, if you were looking to spend less than the $4,950.00.
An amazing upgrade! I use a second-hand Alpha Taurus and have some minor issues with it. An Ultra Tec would be a dream for me, hope to get good enough at cutting to justify it someday!
I can only wish. I'll never be able to afford a UT especially after US to CAN currency exchange and shipping costs .. wowzers. I'd be very happy with his Used Fac-ette Gemmaster ~! But couldn't afford that either. I'm stuck with a 60 year old Graves Mk 1 :( Although, I've got it working pretty darn well. But so much time and back ache could be saved with one of these beautiful new or used machines.

At times speed adjustment is helpful. Hard to find a good machine cheep.
How does this compare with the Facetron? I am a novice and have only used the Facetron. Thanks 😊
I have not used the facetron. My brother used it and produced fine gems. I believe the ultra tec will be easier to use and more accurate
Nothing like new equipment to make ones day!!!
