- Taylor Spike - Ultramarathon runner / one of Cam’s younger brothers.
Finally, at 34 years old, after years of drinking and relying on prescription drugs, Taylor, took inventory of self and started choosing complete and honest sobriety.
Even tracking in the direction we want to go does not guarantee a destination. “Life always catches up with us,” Taylor says. For a long time he believed he was coasting through, unnoticed and unaccountable.
In 2016, Taylor got a phone call in the morning that no parent wants.
Donavan, Taylor and his wife, Pam’s, now 22 years old son, had been killed instantly in a car accident.
The whole family was heartbroken and lost. “Life experiences make us better, not worse,” Taylor will tell you honestly, “Life gives us all roadblocks.” Running is a different way to cope with discomfort. Running is a different way to process the pain instead of escape it. Those road blocks are no longer excuses. Life is gritty, raw, and real.
Rather than cave into old habits, Taylor launched himself into encouraging recovery in others and leading by example.

I first started following Cam in 2014 after he came out to hunt in Australia with an old school buddy Adam, 2015 I tried running for the first time, I was 36 years old and I sucked and quit, fast forward to October 2018 and Cam is lining up to run 240 miles at MOAB with Taylor, that’s the day I discovered trail running and hit the local mountain and ground out 10 miles, 6 months later I run my first ultra. Because of these 2 men I’m better human being than I was yesterday, fitter, stronger.
Thank you Cam and Taylor 🙌🏼🙏🏼
Everything after 10 is hard......I'm so glad to hear these two legends talking. They seem like gods but they really do just put in the work like real humans. I have my first 25k trail race in May down in the Ozarks of Missouri, and this podcast couldn't have come at a better time!
Feel the same way! Good luck on the first 25k!
Good luck sir!
Good luck. Keep hammering you got this.
This has become my favorite show to both listen to and watch. I'm at a loss for words - just incredible.
Thank you so much for the support!
Agreed. Cameron Hanes has changed my life with his focus on faith, family, and fitness. I will never be the same after discovering all this content of his. The story of Roy touches me so much because I have that type of friend now and can't imagine not having him to hunt with. Thanks cam for everything you do
You guys motivate the heck out of me. Anybody who has the will to run 100 miles has my respect. You have to face your demons to be able to finish something of that nature.
I couldn’t be more grateful to the you both for sharing your conversation and the feelings you have for each other. My brother passed away unexpectedly ten months ago and I would do anything to be able sit across the table from him and tell him how proud I am of him. Thank you Taylor and Cam for speaking to each other the way brother should.
Very powerful, thank you for sharing.
love this #oneDayAtATime baby God is good!
Just raw, unfiltered content you can FEEL. Taylor's story is like so many others out there yet he takes to the mountains and triumphs over tragedy. Choose your hard!!! Awesome Cam and Taylor. I found Cam on social media in 2017 and since then I'll be going on my 4th Ultra and looking forward to my 3rd archery deer/elk harvest. It takes years of work to get better at running, there's no better gauge of the human heart. LET'S GO!!!!
I’ve followed Cam for many years and always found him as an inspirational person. After these podcasts and getting to know a little about Nick, Wayne, and now Taylor it shows he has surrounded himself with some pretty amazing people
This was very cool guys! I been sober 13yrs and 2mts and 25 days. The way my life just kept getting better every year is hard to explain to people who have never experienced it. Our lives are full of shocking tragedies and I can't imagine going through it and still be drinking. Sober life is truly a daily gift. I believe it is where true growth happens
Amazing! Well done for your sobriety!
@@joshholgate3074 thanks man
It's a breath of fresh air hearing a podcast eith someone we admire and love just talk about life and how they struggled with all the same shit we all deal with. They persevere and thrive on it. Love it.
Such a sick studio setup! Good job man!
Spike I have seen you running with Cam and never knew you guys were blood brothers. Your testimony is strong AF for a generation lost upon drugs and addictions. This is a great platform for you both to reach out to someone somewhere that needs a little boost, kick in the ass, to combat what they are struggling against.
Great video cast Cam, where's Spike on the Hoyt ????
Thank you cam for these great episodes. I love hearing stories of what can happen if you stay dedicated and do the work!
Also, get chad wright on the podcast!
Dang where did I find this treasure. Never knew about this relationship with your step bro but it was truly inspiring esp about his stepson :(( ❤❤❤
Killer episode, as always. Enjoyed hearing Andy talk about his love of cars at the end. I am very much looking forward to the car content!
What an awesome family story of persevering and moving on forward. No I didn’t have a tear in my eye at end, something was there.
This was really great 🙏
Epic podcast. You guys are amazing. Thank you for sharing!
ANOTHER incredible podcast. God bless you, Cameron Hanes, and thank you Taylor for sharing your experiences and providing inspiration 🙏🏽🔥💪🏽
Another excellent episode.
I’m watching this before I run my last 20 miler in prep of my first marathon of the year. I was being soft about it all morning. 2.5 hours ain’t so bad after hearing y’all running days 😊
Can’t wait for the next one! Really enjoying the lift, run, shoot and the podcasts
This was the first episode I've watched of the new podcast. Long time fan, just hadn't gotten around to it. So glad I chose this one.
Awesome. Thanks gents
Great podcast! I’d love to see all your siblings do the podcast!
The song in your intro/outro is beyond epic. Who raps it? If he's not a famous rapper he will soon be one.
I appreciate it! The song is called Cam Hanes by Shafer (myself) 🚀
@@ShaferMusicOfficial Nice work sir. I'm a fan

You should see about getting James "Iron Cowboy" Lawrence on the podcast. Last year he did 101 full length triathalons in 101 consecutive days in Utah. A few years prior he had done 50 in 50 consecutive days in all 50 states. Love to listen!
So good, thanks for sharing this boys!
Motivation that I needed today. Thanks for sharing
Life is so crazy , I’ve been following cam since he started with the Eastman’s and was writing articles , I couldn’t get enough of him then , and here I am 35 + years later , there is a presence about him , I met him one year at TAC and shook his hand and talked with him and took a few pics with him , what an amazing guy for our sport of archery and life 🫵💪
